  1. Dear Peter Brough ... Isn't it time you let Archie go..? Yours sincerely Mrs Trellis
  2. And the winner is ... Doctor J..! Here, then, is your Winner's Certificates (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... BC_Chal_Cert_2020_11.pdf ... which look like this (but bigger, of course..!)…
  3. Or we can all just get on with living our lives as best we can, and ignore these Cassandra predictions. No-one knows, no-one can know, it just is what it is for everyone at any point in History, anywhere. There is no Plan, no-one is at the Helm, there is no 'ism'. Sleep well...
  4. My German-made Hofner is a vintage Verithin ... ... which has withstood the test of time by now, so I'd say they're pretty darned good. I think it's fair to say that the reissue non-German instruments are very fine, too, and their advantages (light weight not least among them...) make them a very attractive option. The main difference with the vintage originals would be the presence of a centre-block; the originals are true hollow-body, and could, in some conditions, be subject to more feedback issues. Short or medium scale, and probably not the best choice for those wishing to indulge in 'slap' techniques, but they'll do most of what a 'normal' bass is supposed to do, and very well, in my view. I have other basses (although I'm a drummer...), but the Verithin is my 'go-to' bass, and has been for decades.
  5. Tripe. Edit : Upon reflection, I'll revise that... Utter tripe.
  6. We (The Daub'z...) played, once again, at our village summer 'Fete de la Musique', and earned ourselves an laudatory write-up from an i-news scribbler, in which mention was made of the drummer (me...) having once been one of the Dïck Rivers group of musicians..! No idea where this idea came from (perhaps my age ..?), but I felt strangely flattered.

    Hey! :)

Good evening, Han, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  8. I'm likely to get caned for writing this, but I don't think, for the relatively modest stuff we do (in general...), latency is a huge issue. It's true that I don't, often, record listening to a fully-loaded backing, with tons of Fx; I've never found any need to even check what the latency on my simple set-up is. With today's decent gear, it's not a Big Deal, I reckon. (Dons tin hat and ducks, though...)
  9. +1 for the Rode. We have several such mic's, including Superlux. Most large-diaphragm condenser mic's will work splendidly for acoustic guitar, and much else. No (home-...) studio should be without one, in my view.
  10. Good morning, Steve, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  11. Does that not imply two mic's, or has the acoustic a pre-amp..?
  12. Which leads me to believe (with little proof...) that the net result is simply lost profit for those outlets giving these 'deals'. Many of the items would have been bought, either sooner, by those waiting for Black Friday, or later, by those buying for Christmas, or later in the year (or next...). Some purchases made which would not have been, but the 'Black Friday alone' takings are not 'real' figures; they are at the expense of other moments in the year. I may be wrong, but it seems like a bit of 'shooting oneself in the foot', much of the time.
  13. Just idle curiosity, but I was wondering if there were any national statistics comparing total quarterly or yearly sales, including these Black Friday ones, with previous years without this 'event'. Are sales in this current period missed sales from either earlier or later on..? I'd expect a slight increase overall, just because of the extra 'hype' involved, and impulse buys, but is it really as big an increase in the larger scheme of things..? Just wondering.
  14. Have a look at Izotope's 'Iris 2', maybe..?
  15. Most (all..?) mail order companies allow returns if the product is not suitable, for whatever reason. Thomann have been rather good when I've messaged or 'phoned for specific information such as your request. They'll take note, check what's what, then get back to you with the reply. I needed info for a bass case for example; it worked out very well. Hope this helps.
  16. Once upon a time, a very long, long time ago... “Straplocks you shall have my young Padawan.” I'm not so young now, though, and may not have the longevity of The Master.
  17. Can't hear any problems, myself. It looks and sounds as if everyone is enjoying themselves. S'all good, for me.
  18. Good afternoon, NB, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. I, too, am a drummer.
  19. Bad ears, you say..? That rings a bell that I can't hear (and you'll have to speak up, lad ...). I'll repeat my recommendation of Superlux; mine are HD 669; there are other models, but these suit me fine, and are not expensive. Hope this helps.
  20. Good evening, SC, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
