Having seen (photos of...) the studio and rehearsal space, I'm not sure that I agree..! ...

My Dad didn't like to use oak for furniture, toys or even turning (for candlesticks...), as it 'moves'. Even when seasoned, and over long periods, once 'worked', it would twist or bow, as the cellular structure adapted itself to its new form. Difficult to get regular, stable results (a pair of candlesticks, with one slightly bent, was often the result. A set of banister rails would be nigh on impossible to produce...). I don't think oak would be good for instruments at all, regardless of its tonal qualities. Drums can be made from oak (especially snares...), but they're not from large slabs. Mostly ply's or blocks glued up. On another aspect: there are many excellent archtop guitars with ply tables (my Hofner Comittee being one...). 'Tone' ply, obviously. Just sayin'.

In years gone by, there were no recordings at all. Musicians could only earn by playing, 'live', or getting their sheet music sold. All this 'music business' is a very recent thing; the first musician 'millionaires just got lucky. Earning a living from one's music has always been a risky vocation; modern technology has distorted the vision of this reality. Ignore the recording side of things and play to real people; that's how it really works. If one is good enough to attract enough of an audience, it'll pay. If not, keep the day job. It may be sad, and harsh, but that's the nub of it. Or set up a personal distribution system, world-wide, and see how much profit there is to be made from selling music.

True, dat ^^; I use Reaper for all my audio stuff, but have yet to even try the video editing. I just never think of it. I'll have a look this evening (if I don't forget again... )

I've used several; lately I've preferred a simple enough, basic one called Shotcut, which has an added benefit of being Open Source, and so free. I have also used Resolve (also free...), which seems more complex, although very powerful. Worth a look..?

No point in hanging about like the bod in the picture, so... Here is my contribution to the March 2021 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: Myself..! I wanted a sort of 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' idea behind a Viennese waltz, to build up some suspense, without going too far overboard. I ended up with a simple enough theme, slightly developed, leading to the inevitable outcome seen in the picture. It was all going so well until... The chord sequence was established first, then run through my 'Band In A Box' suite, to flesh it out. From that, I've used the MIDI to pilot the Ruby upright bass, a full-blown Kontakt Pearl piano, an Ample Sound Light acoustic guitar and Kontakt Orchestral Strings. The 'solo' instruments are from the same Kontakt Orchestral suite: oboe, bassoon and contra-bassoon, and were composed and played on my M-Audio Keystation Mini 32 keyboard. Drums are BFD3 (unusually, for me...), with added cymbal swells and timpani from divers samples, along with the final cheeky 'Tonton Flingueurs' touch, suggested by Our Youngest. All recorded and mixed using Reaper, as usual, with a spot of Ozone for light mastering. That's it..! Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.

Google 'pdf shhet music bass' brings up this ... Bass Guitar Sheet Music to Download ... ... and plenty more. If you're not too strapped for cash, I can recommend 'Guitar Pro 7'... (70€...); there are loads of scores for all genres available to play along to, as well as read (I've thousands...).

In decades past, I have had several (too many to remember...) 'Surrealistic Pillow' LPs and CDs. Each was obtained because the previous one was worn out. The bug-bear was that the original, very first one had a specific UK playing order and track listing, and all future versions a different one. I had to make my own 'compilation' to recover the UK version, and it's that that I now listen to, from flac files on my PC. I Don't think there was any UK version CD issued, so I shan't be buying any more, and my flac files are unlikely to wear out anyway, despite their heavy use. I have back-up copies, of course..!
