  1. Nothing wrong with the ad, but the offers of a trade have been systematically deleted, which is why you don't see 'em. Offers are fine, as long as they are by PM (Private Message...), and not openly posted in the ad itself. Hope this explains things..? Meanwhile, good luck with the sale. Douglas
  2. Good afternoon, Don, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  3. Not so much 'tricky' as not feasible with this material..!
  4. I don't have any issue with headphones; I use 'em all the time. Yes, I've tinnitus, too, permanently, but I just keep the 'phones at a reasonable level. They're no different, as far as the ears are concerned, than listening without. I don't 'get' the 'tone' issue, either; if this is just for practising, it's just bass, isn't it (with maybe a backing track, or metronome...). When I'm practising, I'm not looking for 'tone'; it's so room/circumstance dependant as to not be relevant. Maybe that's just me (I'm a drummer...). I'd recommend 'closed' headphones, at a low level.
  5. I printed a batch 'face-down', but the pins don't come out properly; the plastics too tiny to be useful. I've done another batch, 'face-up', which is much better. It's as easy to print six as one, so I did. Here's a 'teaser' uber-short video; real-time was three hours. I'll prepare them tomorrow; it's late now. They'll be in the post soon ...
  6. I'm not seeing the problem. Shirley everyone just pops the relevant part back onto the music stand and reads it again, no..?
  7. Much good advice above. Feel free to PM me if you want a drum part. A tempo, and a vocal 'beat-box' idea of what's required and I could probably spit a couple out for you quite rapidly (or a demo track, of course...).
  8. I'm not sure just how much of all that money is going to lambda musicians.
  9. Good evening, FE, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  10. All this brings to mind the Story of Chicken Little.
  11. Any advice as to which car to buy..? A new telephone, maybe..? A washing machine..? Not to say that British-built instruments aren't good, but why limit oneself in this respect, and not the others..? Just curious as to the reasoning.
  12. Good evening, Goo, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  13. ... and then send it, accidently, to the 'pillock' in question..!
  14. Fixed.
  15. Now, if they were offering Höfner key fobs...
  16. He said 'Interesting'.
  17. And how much is a reasonable rent, in Indonesia..?
  18. On the other hand, one doesn't reveal one's hand whilst negotiations are ongoing. A bad analogy, but poker isn't played with the cards exposed. This same 'deal' signed up and published four years ago would have provoked the same disarray, probably, but this would, by now, have been forgotten.
  19. T'would have been simpler, and more correct, to have informed the group and asked permission before adopting the very similar name. If they'd got the green light, all well and good; if not, time still to come up with another name (and run that past the group if there's any doubt, too...). It seems quite obvious, to me.
  20. Basswood is used quite extensively in model aircraft precisely because it's light, but stronger than balsa. It's used for spars and bracing; anywhere where balsa would be too weak. It's lighter than spruce, which is another option. Basswood is also used in aircraft-grade plywood; again, for its light weight compared to other woods used in ply.
  21. Cort guitars are apparently made from American tilleul and maple, in Indonesia and China. The bodies are from the same woods as US-made guitars.
  22. There are other common names for linden wood (lime wood, nothing to do with lime fruit...), or Tilla, its Latin name; in France it's 'tilleul'. Here's a pretty fair run-down on its use in lutherie (in French...)... Le tilleul est-il un mauvais bois pour la guitare..? ... In essence, it is suggested that American (harder...) or European (a bit softer...) species are useful, especially for bodies, and more so with a maple top, and that Asiatic species are too soft to be very good at all, although one may be lucky sometimes. The most delicate part is getting it properly dried, and the weight will reflect this (it's much lighter when dried...). Worth a read, maybe, through a Google translation if necessary..? Cort guitars are apparently made from American tilleul and maple, in Indonesia and China. The bodies are from the same woods as US-made guitars.
  23. But not both, I assume. I think I'll try for the former; the latter pleases me not at all, especially the destruction of the bass..!
  24. All of this is gong to be great fun (not..!) for those crossing the Channel with second-hand items in the boot of their car. On my next visit to Blighty I'm expecting to bring back to France a bass cab I bought and a bass guitar, both second-hand from private sales from this very Forum. What, if any, customs declaration s will be required of me from the French Douanes I've no idea, and don't, in all honesty, consider them relevant, as the deals were done before this 'B' stuff kicked in. I'll find out, maybe, once this 'C' stuff is over; by then the dust may have settled on these new arrangements. I doubt very much that I'll be asked for wotsit numbers, thingemy codes or TVA registration, and if asked, they'll be disappointed by the replies.
