1.
Not really portrayed in any of the photos from the event but Alex Claber (Barefaced cabs) brought along his RIM 4 string (what do you mean ONLY 4 strings!!) which was absolutely delicious to look at..I deliberately didn't play it as Robbie is about 15 mins from where I live which would inevitably lead to a bout of GAS which I couldn't currently afford to satisfy..best left alone really..
Quite, I've always wanted to visit him but I know I'd just end up with incurable GAS. Not good with a wedding and honeymoon coming up!! Truckstop
2. You'll be amazed at what you'll have remembered on Wednesday. Good luck!! Dot forget, you don't really need to learn songs verbatim; if you need to, simplify and then work on getting it closer when you play the songs more. Delighted to hear of your progress!
3. Well we've been asking a few dep types but we can't afford the prices they're after. It needs to be worth it for everyone in the band! Bah, I'm not worried. There's plenty of people turning up for auditions, we're just being picky! Truckstop
4. sh*t
5. Where's all the love for the Yamaha RBX range? 17mm string spacing and 34" scale if I remember correctly. You can get the RBXJM1 for around £350 these days and it's one of the best 6 strings I've ever owned. By now, all of the jack sockets would have been replaced so you'll not get a dud! The RBX765 is also a lovely bass. Same aesthetics as the RBXJM (I don't like the new RBX style) and dirt cheap these days. Also, +1 for the Ibanez K5 Truckstop
6. So, the drummer for my covers band bailed a couple of months ago for perfectly reasonable reasons. Since then we've struggled to find anyone that could fit the bill: We had one guy who was a drumming genius. He was Colombian and had a lovely light touch, throwing in some Latin influences every now and then and listened to the band (probably because he was quiet) and made us sound really good. But he doesn't drive and can't gig on saturdays. Then, we had a guy who was an awesome drummer, but bloody deafened all of us. I've never seen anyone play so aggressively before, couldn't hear anything over the guy at all! Which was a shame because he's clearly talented, but obviously he couldn't hear any changes in dynamics and would just power through all the songs. Very tiring And then tonight, we had a guy who is maybe the worst drummer I've ever played with. He had all the gear and no idea. But he was a gross slobbery middle aged bald guy in a tracksuit with the worst touch I've ever seen. He must have thought he was Keith Moon or something using a crash for a hi-hat in Back to Black. He kept throwing in poorly timed double kick drum riffs, his timing was all over the place, he didn't allow anyone else in the band any space at all and the gig was just a complete nightmare. He was ridiculously loud so we all had to turn up to compensate and then we'd get told to turn down and it got well silly! How can someone be such a poor musician with gear that lovely? He really just was off in his own world forcing us all to listen to his terrible drumming. God! Grrrr! I just want to find a drummer who owns his own kit, has a car, is quiet and has a good sense of place in a band. Is it really that hard? Jeez
7. Have a look in the for sale thread for the '55 Precision relic for sale. Rick's Fine '52 did a real professional job on it and it looks great. £850 too which is a steal considering the total cost of all the parts! Truckstop
8. Should be perfect! Chop up the boxes, buy a new speaker for each cab and fit some lights in the spare speaker holes. Should be very useful indeed! PM'd Alex
9. What range are these? Hydrive, VX etc If they're small enough I'll convert them into wedge monitors! Alex
10. I love loading in and setting. Part and parcel of being in a working band! I wish I could hire someone to pack down and drive me home though! But yeah I'd say get some roadies when you have space in the vans for some and when you can afford them and still pocket decent cash yourself. Truckstop
11. Second hand Hartke gear is a complete steal! £400 will be enough to grab an LH300 and aluminium cone 2x10. Truckstop
12. Macs are terrible.... Ha ha anyway, I'm more interested in your 22 year old Ibanez. Any pics? Selling it? Truckstop
13. Yeah that lovely ACG with the nut piezo would be interesting to own. The Hagstrom Viking would be a nice addition to the collection too! Truckstop
14. Oops! Probably Sen Ash or Alder I believe. Alex
15. Yes, patience is of the utmost importance! Looking good so far, be interesting to see a Sonic Blur Yammie! Truckstop
16. Got in touch with Craig about his P body he had for sale and it was at my door 2 days later extremely well packed (dog had a field day with all the packing!). Good communication, amiable manner and all round nice guy. Looking forward to dealing with him again sometime! Cheers Alex
17. Jacques got in touch with me about a very interesting trade and we sorted it out very quickly indeed. Instrument was exactly as described and as a bonus came with a lovely case. He even offered €50 on top to cover the cost of posting everything because he's nice like that! The easiest international transaction I've ever taken part in! Thanks Jacques, hope you're well? Alex
18. I'd just file down the heel anyway to improve the action; just like Mark Knopfler and David Gilmours' guitars! Truckstop
19. Yeah I know, I've been going through all the photos clenching my teeth in frustration at missing it....AGAIN!! Thanks for the kind words Mick, need to have a beer sometime? Maybe get a few other locals involved and have a minibash? Anyway, the TRB's been traded out for an ESH Jazz 5. It's on the way, cant wait! Alex
20.
Great. All I have had is stupid messages from Eastern Europeans, general time wasters and people saying how lovely they are.
21. Well since you asked the question: I looked at your topics and apart from the use of bad photos, your asking prices are too high (IMO). Whether you like it or not, Basschatters are used to lower prices than shops or eBay. Probably because people that sell things on here don't have to pay to advertise or don't incur any rubbings costs in holding the instrument. A bit more blurb could also help. Specs, history, reason for selling etc. Also get in the habit of bumping your ad every few days so it gets to the top of sale forum. People don't necessarily actively look for Rickys or Spectors; they'll just chance upon your ad and go "ooh, that's a lovely bass at a good price. Why not?" and then get in touch with you. Also, why not try building a bit of a profile here? Join in some debates or lend your experience to other members on the forum. You haven't even bothered to include a profile picture or avatar. I wouldnt trade with you if I've got no idea of who you are. It's silly, but you sort of get a sense of what someone is like through their avatar, and if you haven't got one... We'll just assume that there is just nothing about you and that you're not a friendly sort of person! Hope you sell your stuff eventually, good luck! Alex
22. I've been arrested after a gig twice in my time. Once was a case of mistaken identity that was sorted out on the way to the station, and the other time was for suspected drink driving. The second time was very embarrassing. They stopped me from leaving the pub xarpark and breathalyser me (which I failed). I honestly did not expect that as I had I only had a single bottle of beer all evening! Anyway they took me down to the station abandoning my girlfriend who had drunk too much and didn't have any money (I was going ballistic at the officers because of this) and it was purely by chance that someone we knew was strolling by and offered to walk her home. Had to leave all my gear in the pub carpark as the landlord made some silly excuse that I couldn't leave my gear in the pub and collect it the next day. So I got to the station and passed the second breathalyser but decided to keep me in for 4 hours for no reason. Had to walk home in the pissing rain because I didn't have any money. That was a real downer! We'd played a storming gig, great atmosphere; probably the best gig we'd played so far. It was awesome. And there I was 5 hours later looking like a drowned rat! Truckstop
23. I like reading about bassists talking about their favourite bits of gear. I also like reading about normal everyday bassist on the pub circuit sharing stories about gear that really lasts and is excellent value for money! Truckstop
24. I should say that the Octave Multiplexer is an awesome octaver for lovely synthy sounds. Really nails Billie Jean and Sledgehammer with the right settings. I wish EHX would make a smaller version. Anyway, a bargain for £35 I reckon! Truckstop
25. Ah, that is a bit far then! I've always wanted to be in a desert/stoner band with an impetus on post rock influences. Oh well Cheers Alex
