1. Shockwave was looking for a project, probably a refin
2. Wax it Rosewood or ebony fingerboard, black headstock (or something to match the body, but that's likely to be difficult). I agree with SubsonicSimpleton on the hardware - don't bother with any relicing. Black chrome might work, or copper?
3. Thanks to all who replied (including the person who PMed me I'm waiting for a reply
4. Whoa! That is odd. I like it a lot. No money, obviously...
5. Sifi2112 would like that
6. Bloody hell. That bridge... !
7.
Playing with a metronome or drum loop is a good part of learning. There are some good backing tracks on YouTube.
Good to know. Thanks
8. http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/washburn-status-headless-bass/1128190005 Is this a good price?
9.
Maybe the neck was bowed because of the metal strings.
I think it used bungee cords. Definitely not metal strings.
10. Pretty
11.
What a lovely looking Bass Stuart, wish it was next months pay day and I would be snapping at this How would I go about using my credit card to pay ? ideas anybody
Link it to a PayPal account? Edit: I do not necessarily recommend this...
12. That's got to be a bargain.
13. Still looks like a good deal Still skint
14. Looks great! (and I'm not generally a fan of tort PGs...)
15. I don't like the headstock, but looks good apart from that.
16.
Sounds like its worth a shot if you can get a donor viola (Hmmm "Donor Viola" is good band name! ) for a good price. It could well be that no-one has thought of it - or they have but everyone thought it wasn't possible as they didn't find someone else who had done it!
Or you could try to find a 1/8 or 1/12 size cello... I did look a few times on eBay, but that was when I had some cash.
17.
EDIT: I've searched around, and have found no sign of anyone ever creating a silicone stringed mini double bass. I would guess that this means that it simply won't fly as an idea.
I recall seeing a page about a bowed electric "upright", about Ashbory scale, using a piece of steel or plastic tube as the body and piezo pups under the bridge elements. Cello tuning, I think. It didn't look even vaguely like a "conventional" bass or cello, though. IIRC the builder was Belgian.
18. He is a great player.
19. Gareth sold me some strings and I've nothing but good things to say. I'd be happy to deal with him again. Thanks
20. Tempting...
21. Always interested in cluttering up my life with instruments I can't play Just to clarify: The bass I've played most is a no-name J copy I got for £80. It's still the one I pick up when I want to work something out.
22.
How many Harpists are there out there? They probably think you DBers have it easy with a nice transportable instrument...
Yup. My mum plays harp, and my dad played double bass. At least you can lay a DB down on its side...
23. Hmm. Not far from me, tempted to go have a look. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-bass-guitar-/271946843274?hash=item3f514b848a
