1. They usually go for about £700 new. This is the model with two outputs, one from the humbucker and one from the piezo. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Italia-Mondial-Classic-Bass-Guitar-Black-/121977498143?hash=item1c666cea1f:g:ZdsAAOSw2x1XK0D8
2.
I prefer a thicker neck ever since I started playing upright bass and I like this one. It's probably not to your tastes but not the thickest I've had.
Thanks. Funny thing, I find thicker necks much less of an issue with fretless than with fretted. So I'm still trying to stave off the GAS...
3.
The holes are where someone installed a scratch plate but he also says in the listing that it's been "updated" with new Vigier pickups etc... however the pickups in the bass are the original ones that came with it, unless he means the pickups in this evolution of the model are upgraded over the previous version (although that's actually wrong too, they're the same with a different casing)
My bad, I should have looked at it more carefully. But I need not to be spending money, so looking at stuff on eBay is bad for me...
4. Definitely pretty . What's the neck like? I've wanted one (preferably fretless) for a while, but I heard the neck is a bit of a treetrunk.
5.
It's been on eBay for ages. Who on earth drilled holes for a scratchplate!
Has someone tried to change the pup and botched it, perhaps?
6. It looks as though someone's stacked fridge magnets on it. (I've got a bitsa with several unused/DFA knobs and switches - most of the space under the scratchplate is routed out, so it would be good for experimental pup/wiring arrangements.)
7. My dad played double bass, and (folk/singalong) guitar a bit. Mum played piano, never really had the chance to do much with it (kids and a job and a different generation); now she plays harp. I played cello as a youngster; quit when I was 17, school trouble and never picked it back up. My sisters played violin/viola and cello. I don't think either of them plays at the moment. But the idea of electric instruments? Not on the radar, not even vaguely.
8. Surprised this is still here... must be the name putting people off
9. Ended with no bids... !
10. I like these. I'm surprised it's still up, TBH.
11.
SHINE make great basses for the money, particularly the Korean ones. These ASAT copies play very nicely. Would buy this but I have an American G&L ASAT already! GLWS
Thanks It's a nice bass, but I don't need it and I do need the space.
12.
Like this one then! http://www.ebay.co.u...%3D262641077237
Yes. That one's up for sale here as well.
13.
I'd be tempted to use a cabinet scraper to take down the veneer gradually. They are pretty cheap. Failing that, run the shaft of a screwdriver down a Stanley knife blade at 90 degrees to "turn a hook" and use that. It allows the removal of very little wood at a time, with a lot of control. Plenty of videos on YouTube about the use of cabinet scrapers (and they are lovely to use too)
Excellent idea. Thank you.
14. Pondering doing this to my slide guitar...
15. This is a four-string passive bass, metallic black with matching headstock; TRC and a couple of screws missing. The trussrod turns smoothly. It needs rewiring; when I first had it the pups worked but one of the tone controls did nothing. I took the electrics cover plate off and looked at the roller pot assembly; they are mounted on a frame which can be removed - it looks to me as if they are normal pots mounted sideways. Now it makes almost no noise, so I suspect I've stretched a wire somewhere. Maverick was a UK-based company, now folded. The back of the neck has a deep scratch running to the scarf joint. I am pretty sure it is a scratch, not a crack. I've tried to photograph it. The neck has its share of minor dents. The bass has dents and scars; it ought to be refinished, probably. I nabbed this off eBay because I was curious about the controls and fancied a project, but I haven't got time to do anything with it and I need the space. £60 plus carriage. Pics here: http://s1295.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0
16. Looks good (though I do like the "original" colour).
17. I'm very surprised this hasn't sold. Good luck!
18. Oh they sound great (though the output on mine's a bit weedy). I'd like to defret one
19. Thanks, folks. I've not done it before, and it's not been clear from the descriptions I've found. I intend to do this: - make myself a sanding block by taping sandpaper to the board and using it to shape the block. - glue the veneer and cut it back carefully with a razor blade, paying attention to the grain of the veneer while doing it. - sand, using the block, if necessary and as little as possible. - save the dust to fill the places where the board has splintered. Filing the nut I am reasonably happy with. I have files which will work.
20. Another one for the clearout. This is a Korean-made Shine copy of the G+L ASAT four-string tele-style bass. I believe it's a Shine model 724, but nothing on it gives the model number. It would make a nice starter, backup or project, but it's quite giggable in its own right IMO. Passive four-string, decently made; quite playable, with a nice range of tones. Body and headstock are high-gloss varnish; neck is satin. Nut is 42mm wide. Controls are a pickup selector switch (front-both-rear), and knobs (V-V-T). There is a little neck dive, but nothing a wide strap won't deal with. (Wide strap thrown in if desired.) There's a bump on the back of the body about 3mm wide which has cracked the varnish; I've tried to take a picture of it. Pics are here: https://postimg.org/gallery/nddi86tw/ £120 plus carriage; includes a cheapo gigbag.
21. I'm defretting a bass, and I'm wondering if I need to sand down the fingerboard before I put veneer in the fret slots. Is it normal to need to sand the board down before filling the slots? The board is rosewood. Thanks
22.
I would definitely not use acetone on anything foamy.
Could I ask why not, please? Just curious. Thanks
23. Vox Standard. That's twice what it should be priced at. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vox-Standard-Bass-Guitar-Made-in-Japan-1980s-Matsumoku-Dimarzio-/262641077237?hash=item3d26a0cbf5:g:1IAAAOSwMtxXvxsC
24. On hold. Bow is still available - I will post it separately when I can.
