Coming from a guitar background, I believe I developed my ear by never ever ever using tab. I stick the mp3 into my bass trainer straight away and just go for it. Whilst it isn't strictly necessary to copy the complete bass line, to start with I will try and play all the fills and stuff to the record. Once playing in a band context, the lines begin to evolve into other things anyway.
Also notable for what looks like a "floating thumb" muting technique, combined with the Dingwall marks him out as a bit of a bass anorak. But good luck to him getting a gig anyway.
I am probably the worst player on the forum and I play with a floating thumb...despite the bass, I am definitely not a bass anorak!

After playing the Dingwall I picked up a Roscoe which felt really strange. I asked what was up with it, the reply was 'Well it's got regular frets...'
Crikey! Chords on fanned frets - all you need now is a torsal twist.
Well I do have arthitis in my left index finger! I'm hoping the stretch at the first fret may help
Yep, defo one of my 'WANT' basses but I can't justify a new one just in case I don't get on with it. Just as a matter of interest... do you know what it weighs (actual weight, not Dingwall stated)?
8lb...although there's another at Bass Direct that is 7 1/4...and is noticeably lighter than mine. Know what you mean about not getting on with it - that's why I drove 300 miles round trip to try it first... I also tried some regular fretted basses which just felt wrong afterwards...

Had to share it with someone. Everything just feels right about it. For anyone unsure about the fanned frets, it's not an issue. It took me about ten seconds to adjust. The main difference seems to be the clarity - the strings are now very close in volume/tone to each other even jumping positions. Chords sound a lot clearer and don't seem to 'throb' like on a regular fretted bass. I'm well impressed - be interesting to see how it sounds with the band. Sorry only got an Iphone picture for now.

Ive bumped this thread back up as I need the cash for a new car. In immaculate condition - just about as brand new (only gigged with it once). No dings at all. 18 months old. 3 band EQ also includes a tuner. Comes with a set of flats (they are either TIs or LaBellas). Only issue is a slight resonant vibration on the A string which only appeared with the flats. Hard case has a latch broken, but is very clean. Want £200 - postage extra (would really prefer not to post though as its quite delicate). In light of recent threads stating that people are asking too much for their gear, I've reduced the price from £260 to £200. I can't go any lower sadly. Live in Hull, can meet up no probs - I'll come to you if you pay my Diesel. SOLD

I'm looking to swap my Acoustic bass for something a bit plainer looking in natural. Condition is immaculate. Currently got a set of TI Flats on it. Would love a Dean Performer or Takamine, but will consider anything. Can add cash if someone needs to downgrade - I simply cannot justify two otherwise I'd keep it. Absolutely no non-ABG trades as I've enough regular basses!! Photos if you send me your email address - I can't figure out how to attach photos from my iPhone...
Im selling a SCHECTER 004 bass in natural wood finish. Ive had this bass for about a year but have never really played it( being a drummer with dillusions of becoming a bass player). Its been sat in its case for the best part of sixth months and i thought that it should go to a better home. £220 Also can sell with a gator case for £250 Pics of my bass to follow. Im Based in wakefield but can travel to leeds, sheffield, bradford.
Do you have any photos of it? What's the condition like?

I don't have any bass playing mates, so anyone want a lift to bass day from Hull or East Yorkshire?
Get The Party Started just sounds like a nice tight, low bassline the whole way through, which is the synthy bit you're referring too? I think you could nciely cop that with your neck pickup, bit of compression, and if you want something a tad deeper and more dubby, using an octaver. I think the OC-2 would be perfect, play that line an octave higher than usual on your neck with the OC-2 set with full Oct 1 down, zero clean and zero Oct-2. Same story with Billie Jean I think aswell to be honest, don't really think you need a pedal to get that sound.
Ok cheers - I just feel there is something 'synthy' missing from the parts. Time for a rethink!!

Theres a couple of songs that stand out as needing a bass synth with my current band: Get The Party Started and Billie Jean. Would a cheaper pedal fit the bill for these two? I really haven't got a clue as my only other experiments with a synth were with a Pod XT and the settings seemed bit overwhelming!! We have a keyboard player in the band, but he plays a question and answer part against the guitarist for most of the Pink song. Any advice?
Throw the cat amongsth the pigeons - How about changing your amp head for a TC RH450? Tuner, multiband compressor, programmeable AND an amp head all in one box - ok - so it's an expensive way to do it!
Mmm thought about that but am happy with my Shuttle 3 for now!!
I can swap for a brand new, unopened Korg Pitchblack? Can I see pics of the marks you mention? cheers D.
Sure can - I'd be looking for at least £30 on top of your pedal as Amazon are doing them for £50 delivered. If you pm me your email, I can send photos. -
I've decided that I really am a P guy so these are for sale. Brilliant condition apart from one Mark along the top. The bottoms are scuffed but obviously they will be hidden when fitted. Looking to trade for a good tuner pedal ie Pitchblack, Polytune, TU2/3 or even a DT10 plus cash. Would also consider a trade for a multi effects unit - can add cash - TRADED

I can't get on with 3 band eqs - I've persevered for ages but feel it's time to go back to a 2 band. So looking to trade this for a decent 2 band EQ - a prewired Jazz plate would be ideal. Could also do with a Precision pickup/pj set if it could be thrown into the mix too. Would consider Barts - I can add cash for the right deal.

I could do with a tuner pedal and a compressor, but need it to be a one box solution. Can anyone recommend a multi FX pedal that does these two functions well?
