2. Sold to me as working, I did my usual maintenance, of photo everything, open it up, and clean everything, all the sockets with meths and suitable sized cleany things (interdental toothbrush, pipe cleaner, cotton but), sprayed the pots. Visual check of everything, fuse check, and fired it up. Works fine, sounds great, bit of hiss, reckon it needs a recap. Never sure what the deal is with Sound City ratings, the 120 has 6 EL34 so 150w+ by conventional logic. Maybe they worked from a cleaner standard or something. Pretty much going to move on the GECs, don't like putting wear on things I can't replace, and is likely this will be taking over from my 120, anyone wanna buy a 120? Also scrubbed up the case, a voice from above said 'Is that a Hiwatt?'. After a bit of confusion, turns out the guy lining the neighbour's chimney plays lap steel and used to rock a SC50. Oh, I put shorter screws holding the chassis in too, cause there was about half an inch extra going through which meant it took ages to get them out. 3. Cut some high eq might help, or roll off tone on the bass.
4. Clanking will be the tweeter, might be able to disable it somewhere, knob by the inputs.
5. They tempted me. But I get tempted by amps a lot.
6. I got a rat tail file in a model shop that does for bass.
7. Was about to post in rickenfakers. Get your Boris on.
8. Cheers to Shockwave for the heads up, just picked up this Sound City 150, which takes me to 13 or 14 Sound Citys, retarded, at least this one is different. Point out this nice feature, it is a bass amp, so you get bass controls: Mmmm, GECs: Serious iron: Tidy gubbins:
9. Going for a totally different thing to I do, but this is a good sound, basically using all the most obvious stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dy56iQd6Jg
10. Rick bridges are a terrible piece of design and Rick are too busy threatening litigation at anyone who thinks they can do the same thing better to correct it. The Hipshot replacement bridges seem good and solid.
11. How close to the surface is the broken end of the screw? There are ways to extract it.
12. Too thin and delicate to take the screw. Edit: Awesome that the vid has no sound from it.
13. The WinISD side of things only covers <200hz, so if you have subs supporting, might not be super relevant and you are best off high passing the boxes so excursion ceases to be an issue, and you won't be countering the subs output by having multiple sources of lows. Low port tuning (long port) or sealed box also rolls off the lows achieving similar.
14. First target is Friday when Gim should be driving via Sheffield on the way to collect his white Matamp, and I pick up some toys from Umph. Oh yeah, wanna buy a Klipp? Or two?
15. Gonna try and push some people to either buy a bunch of my toys, so I have a shot at this. Not so much after the cab though, anyone want that?
16. Bad cheap pickups tend to be unpotted and thus microphonic. Plenty of cheap pickups are potted. You can tell because they are waxy. Haven't come across any other sort of badness in cheap pickups, but sometimes nice ones sound better.
17. Do you mean PAF rather than P90?
18. I use hardwood veneer, I picked up a ton of scrap rosewood veneer from a piano makers.
19. Think these have come up before. Can anyone tell if the neck is appropriate to the totally wrong saddle position? Think it would really mess witht he proportions, but not sure if its the photo angle. 20. If the 2x10 is a full range cab, might not be much point, biamping is more for when you have specialist cabs for certain frequency ranges, for bass purposes, that often means running a guitar rig for mid and up, sending the crossover out above 100hz to a guitar rig so you don't toast the speakers, and leave the lows to a bass rig or sub. Running the bass rig full range and the guitar rig high passed gives a big sound.
21. Not convinced you can get speakers anything like the originals. They used 4 because they didn't have the xmax to move enough air.
22. Technically, if the Dad hasn't given consent, and the dude selling it has given consent to it being stored for a unspecific time, it could be construed as theft to be selling, and thus you are receiving. Asking the Dad would fix all that.
23. Vintage = person selling has unrealistic price expectations.
24. The stash hole is on Mexican ones.
25. Di you have a go on the amp though?
