1. Never tried those particular ones but every budget bass string I experimented with would sound and feel reasonably good but they all die incredibly fast.
2. Maybe you want to try these https://www.warmanguitars.co.uk/product/p-bass-classic-pickup-8-56kohm-and-5-21-henries/ I am sure glad I did!
3. Good looking Bird, what did you pay for it?
4. The chap playing in that video would make anything sound good ☺️ But I agree, it is a winner!
5. I have the burst version of this model, it is indeed a great bass despite some drawbacks. The neck dives, but there is no T-bird shaped bass that doesn''t. The bridge on mine went straight to the bin while I was doing a refin, loved the looks but wouldn't live with the way it adjusts, what where they thinking!? The neck is set so no swapping with a lefty model. This is what it looks like now.
6.
It does look like HB neck pockets are made to Fender dimensions, not checked mine but it looks close. Don't want to take 2 basses apart to check!
I had put a Fender neck onto a HB bass and it fitted perfectly
7. I just found this ad on eBay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Vintage-Fender-Telecaster-Bass-1969-/301498042838?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item4632af09d6 (translation into english) A wonderful and very rarely found Fender Telecaster Bass. If you enter the serial number on the neck plate into the Guitar Dater Project, you will find the info that it is a 1969...but no liability. The beauty of this bass is difficult to photograph. The bass was played for decades and it rewards this with a sensational sound. Of course, due to its old age there are signs of use, scratches, dings and dongs and those popular cracks in the paint - just for people who appreciate a beautiful stylish relic/vintage look. As you can see, it is not all original, because the previous owner has fitted a second Fender Vintage pickup so that you have some more sound available. He enlarged the routing for the Telecaster pickup under the cover in a slightly rustic fashion so the pickup can be fitted straight or angeled. The two small switches are not functioning but according to a luthier they can be activated. So, this is a bass for individualists who might want to invest some time into the wiring. If this doesn't bother you and you are looking for a absolute tone monster, search no more. It is an actual dream bass, but the really chunky neck is too "fat" for me. only 2499 euros.
8. [sup]There is a land of peace and seredipity, far away, up north, and Peavey basses of all walks of life are flocking there in great numbers.....[/sup]
9. Just out of interest, did the seller mention the issues the neck/trussrod had? Good to hear you got it sorted out in the end! I really dig that T45, classic look, really nice! Enjoy your new additions to the tribe!
10.
I'd also like to know if a neck with Fender dimensions would fit on the bass.....
from my experience the HB neck pockets are exactly the same as fenders. the 4 holes didn't match on my bass though, i had to drill new ones but otherwise a perfect fit.
11. I had a similar issue with my fretless. in my case it turned out that the truss rod was vibrating, a very slight clockwise turn sorted it out.
12. i play a 4 string HB bass and i am extremely happy with it as far as the playability and sound goes. of course they are budget instruments, be prepared to make adjustments. but you might need to do that on more expensive basses too. i would not hesitate to buy another one or two, every time i play it i'm amazed how much bass that little money can buy. they don't give you much to snob about though, so if image is relevant, you might want to look eslewhere.
13.
Does anyone know what their P-copies are like? They seem to be popping up on eBay now.
not yet but this one will come to me as soon as possible! must be a new product because no details or specs on the website. but oh my, what a beauty!
14. i am not an expert on fenders but the bass in question does not look such an abomination to me as the thread title suggests? the modifications were done very well it seems but i agree that the asking price is rather high for such a bass.
15. tha bass in my avatar is my surf green J&D with a new pickguard and pickup/bridge covers. i am very happy with this bass and would be if i paid much more for it. i have not had any issues with the nut, i only had to file some the fret ends on one side of the fretboard and adjust the action to my liking, else the bass was pretty much perfect out of the box. the fit, finish, playability and sound that is possible today for so little money never stops to amaze me.
16. i live in a tropical environment with high humidity and a few hundred yards from the ocean so i know your problems.... to clean the pole pieces i use a fiberglass pencil. you find them from electronic suppleirs. this removes the rust very easy and leaves the poles like new. then you can use paint or clear varnish and paint the pole pieces over to prevent new corrosion. to prevent corrosion of the small screws in the sadles, tuners etc. i use the CRC marine corrosion inhibitor spray. it is a liquid that coats the metal without cloging up the slots. i spray a small amount into the lid of the spray can and use a small paint brush to apply.
17. hi, what makes you say the harley benton short scales are rubbish? the hundreds of positive ratings and reviews seem to contradict that? anyway, i have never touched a J&D shortscale but the " '75 vintage" jazz clone i play is of outstanding quality given the low price. i have no reason to believe the P clone would be any different. at this price point you have to be prepared to do setup and sometimes even some fret work but if you are able and willing to do that you will have a ton of fun with these basses.
18. i have one of these green ones as well, and as many mentioned before me, it is an incredible bass for the money! the only small issue i found were the fret ends on the G side of the fretboard, some were slightly rough on the edge but nothing a 10 minute go with a file wouldn't solve. otherwise i am stunned by the fit and finish of the bass. the sound is huge and versatile, the pots, usually a weak spot on low budget instruments, have a very smooth feel to them and a great response. allthough i have no way of directly comparing the bass to more expensive jazz bass models, i find it hard to believe they could be significantly superior to the J&D i am tempted to get a P model now......
19. i always disliked hard cases for my basses. my gigbag carries my bass, all cables etc. plus 6 cans of beer. you can't do that with a case. and the beer stays cooler longer due to the padding, it's a winner!
20.
There's something slightly odd about the specs here. That really is quite a heavy cone and likely to be quite stiff as a result so you would expect the frequency range to be more restricted than 5.8k. You'd also expect fs to be lower. I don't think efficiency is particularly low, we don't know how it was measured and a lot of the higher figures other manufacturers publish are generated by 'favourable' testing procedures. (It may be OK, we just don't know.) A lot of Eminence figures are bumped up by quite big mid-range frequency humps for example. You'll get an extra 6dB by having a 2x10 and 100dB per watt is good. On the plus side excursion (Xmax) looks good and Q of 0.34 is pretty near perfect for engineering a flat response in the bottom octaves without too sharp a roll off. I quite like using PA drivers in bass cabs as I prefer the more 'polite' sound you get. You aren't happy with your current PA monitor though so maybe your taste is for something less accurate but more lively sounding. The big problem with building your own is that you can't test the sound until after you have built.
melando & phil, thanks a lot for your input. i have a few other speakers available but none of those come with any specs safe impedance and watt. i think this speaker is the best shot i have and i might just go for it. any suggestions as to what i look for in a tweeter?
21.
What size unit is the data for? The moving mass and Vas are a bit high for a 10". Is it a 15"?
it is a 10" speaker
22. thank you all for your help. i use a v-amp pro as my preamp plugged into a digital PA amp. i want a clean sound and i won't need super shake down the walls volume. as far as the available speakers go, there is almost nothing" known" available here, i found the odd 15"eminence driver but most of it is just generic stuff made in china. and also a lot of it seems to be car HI FI by the brand names (alpine, pioneer, sony etc) here is a speaker i could buy locally that comes with some T&S parameters: Nominal Impedance : 8 ohm Minimum Frequency Response : 71 Hz Reproduction Frequency Response : FS-5.8 kHz Sensitivity / S.P.L. : 94 dB±2 dB Power RMS : 300 W max. Power : 500 W Equivalent Diaphram Radius : 1.5" Diaphram Mass inc. Airload (Mms) : 81 grams Magnet Weight : 40 oz Resonant Frequency (fs) : 67 Hz DC Resistance (Re) : 5.6 ohm Total Q (Qts) : 0.34 Mechanical Q (Qms) : 5.6 Electromagnetic Q (Qes) : 0.36 Maximum Linear Excursion (Xmax) : +/- 6 mm Compliance Equivalent Volume (Vas) : 72 liters it is one of the few that have some specs available, most have only the impedance and wattage printed on the magnet. could this speaker work for my needs, the cost per piece is around 54US$ i most appreciate your comments, thanks a lot for your time.
23. the speaker i use currently is a PA floor monitor, it is ok but not great and with 57 pounds it is terribly heavy. so i am thinking of building a 2x10 cab using locally available speakers. i live in kenya and none of the speakers i have sourced here are of a brand that i recognise but some of them have T&S parameters on the spec sheet. my question is, what can i learn from these parameters in order to pick the best option? thanks for any help
