  1. Here's a few of my basses - all 31.5" scale but near enough I think!!
  2. Nice timbers and looks very well made but is bloody ugly to my eye!! Each to their own though.
  3. And best wishes to all the Scrumpies - looking forward to the food/bash!!!
  4. Here's a bit of routing on one of my basses for a pair of jazz pickups and a Warwick 2 piece bridge done using an oversized template and a guide bush. And a piccie of a couple of my basses with MM pickups using the same method for routing.
  5. Always different ways to do things - I always make templates for routing pickups. I'll either make the temp!ate the right size if using a template cutter type router bit or make it oversize if using a normal cutter with a guide bush. I usually cut the rectangular part first then the cut outs for the lugs. So, completely the opposite way to Marco!!
  6. Or you could get a used one for between £142 and £269......
  7. And it was waiting but Mrs_the_gut robbed it before I got chance to have a look claiming it is a Christmas present so I have to wait. Bah humbug.
  8. Mine should be waiting for me when I get home tonight!

  10. I built a bass using a Delano hybrid - it also did very well in a blind test at the last SE Bass (that was in the passive J mode). The Delano Hybrid is great but a few things need to be considered (assuming being used with another J pickup - though could be a P): 1. It should be used with a matched J pickup in the bridge pickup 2. The wiring is designed to work with a preamp with an active/passive switch. In passive mode the standard wiring is configured to use the J part of the hybrid giving a J-J with a passive tone control. In active mode the hybrid is configured as an MM with active treble and bass controls (this can also be blended with the J pickup for more variation) 3. A specific switch and pot (supplied with the pickup are required). The pot is a dual type but has two different track values which are used for the active treble or passive tone. The switch is a 4PDT type...the wiring is a little more complicated than a normal active bass! I really like the flexibility of the Hybrid pickup in my bass. The Delano pickups seem like nice quality units as you would expect for where they sit pricing wise. I've got another couple of pickups to use on another project next year. I have also seen that Wilkinson pickup @paul_5 - will be interested to know what you think of it as it is less than half the cost of the Hybrid. Cheers
  11. Someone to finish my bloody kitchen properly so I can get back to bass stuff.... Or more realistically, world peace.
  12. But have you been good this year? Ho, ho, ho!!
  13. Whereabouts are you based? If you are anywhere near Gloucestershire, give me a shout and I'll sort the veneer for you.
  14. I recently e-mailed them and got the reply that as the stands are over a year old they are outside of warranty but they would give me 50% off new ones as a gesture of goodwill. I did reply no thanks as they aren't cheap and I wouldn't want another one to go the same way. I'll look to see what other stands there are out there.
  15. I contacted them also as I have two sticky stands. Will let you know...
  16. Go on then......can’t miss the food!
  17. I’ve now received the wood I’m going to use for the second neck. I’ve got some plain maple and a piece of birds eye maple - so birds eye it is! Same as the other one with an ebony board. I’m looking to make the neck as a 30” short scale this time. Only fly in the ointment is my bloody leaky pipe in kitchen saga is still going on and preventing me from getting on with this. It’s really getting frustrating now....
  18. That top looks lovely! Will you have handed this over to the owner before the Bass Bash next year?
  19. Seems like a bargain to me https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TC-Electronic-BH250-bass-amp-with-case/273528977481?epid=8018700036&hash=item3faf98f849:g:vh8AAOSwhgtb1JBZ&redirect=mobile
  20. Thanks for all your work Silvia and to everyone else involved in organising this event. I've got to say thanks again to everyone for the positive feedback I got for my basses. I was quite overwhelmed especially for the comments I got in the blind test in which, for info, I scored 1 and that wasn't my own bass..... See you all again next year!
  21. That's why I'm sorting the kitchen.....
  22. @bflat You could always try getting a body made that is chambered to lose quite a bit of weight. I'm not entirely sure with an electric instrument exactly what how much of the tone relates to the electronics or the woods - that debate will continue to run!! For info regarding weight, I recently made a semi hollow bass (thread is in this forum) with a maple body and walnut top. I don't normally weigh everything but I did this time and the body came in at 1.230kg. The only downside of this is keeping the balance of the bass on the knee as there is less weight to counterbalance the neck. Cheers
  23. Cheers Mike @wrinkleygit! Hope you are still enjoying the other one! All the best
  24. Cheers @Norris!! Just trying to get my kitchen project finished (which is turning into bit of a saga) so I can crack on with the spalted beech one. What are you building now?
