  1. I contacted them also as I have two sticky stands. Will let you know...
  2. Go on then......can’t miss the food!
  3. I’ve now received the wood I’m going to use for the second neck. I’ve got some plain maple and a piece of birds eye maple - so birds eye it is! Same as the other one with an ebony board. I’m looking to make the neck as a 30” short scale this time. Only fly in the ointment is my bloody leaky pipe in kitchen saga is still going on and preventing me from getting on with this. It’s really getting frustrating now....
  4. That top looks lovely! Will you have handed this over to the owner before the Bass Bash next year?
  5. Seems like a bargain to me https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TC-Electronic-BH250-bass-amp-with-case/273528977481?epid=8018700036&hash=item3faf98f849:g:vh8AAOSwhgtb1JBZ&redirect=mobile
  6. Thanks for all your work Silvia and to everyone else involved in organising this event. I've got to say thanks again to everyone for the positive feedback I got for my basses. I was quite overwhelmed especially for the comments I got in the blind test in which, for info, I scored 1 and that wasn't my own bass..... See you all again next year!
  7. That's why I'm sorting the kitchen.....
  8. @bflat You could always try getting a body made that is chambered to lose quite a bit of weight. I'm not entirely sure with an electric instrument exactly what how much of the tone relates to the electronics or the woods - that debate will continue to run!! For info regarding weight, I recently made a semi hollow bass (thread is in this forum) with a maple body and walnut top. I don't normally weigh everything but I did this time and the body came in at 1.230kg. The only downside of this is keeping the balance of the bass on the knee as there is less weight to counterbalance the neck. Cheers
  9. Cheers Mike @wrinkleygit! Hope you are still enjoying the other one! All the best
  10. Cheers @Norris!! Just trying to get my kitchen project finished (which is turning into bit of a saga) so I can crack on with the spalted beech one. What are you building now?
  11. That's what I'm hoping - I bought it for carving transitions like this. I'll post back with my comments, but looks a promising tool. And it's sharp....
  12. You started it!! Now look what you've made me buy....
  13. Cheers for all the comments! I've still got to get some proper photos. For info the final weight turned out at 2.7kg so just under 6lb. I've still got a few things to finish off which I'll try to get done over the next week or so. …..and I really like LaBella nylons!
  14. ... and Christmas sorted!!
  15. It’s my birthday in a couple of weeks. Just saying.....😁
  16. Cheers - I'll have to dig them out and give them another go.
  17. A really interesting build - something completely different! Be interested to see the videos.
  18. Cheers @derreybass and @TheGreek I've got a couple of spoke shaves - one flat bottomed and one round, but I don't really get on with them. Might possibly be because I haven't tried them enough to get used to them or that they're not the best quality!!
  19. I just looked for these files and found loads more here: https://www.workshopheaven.com/hand-tools/rasps-and-files/iwasaki-japanese-carving-files.html
  20. I really like Shinto file rasps: https://www.workshopheaven.com/hand-tools/rasps-and-files/shinto-japanese-saw-rasps.html I find these easy to use and they have a course side and fine side so very useful. I tend to do small rounded carving parts with a Dremel but am looking for a curved/round file - the ones Honza posted details of look pretty useful.7 Good topic @honza992 - will be interesting to see what others do. Cheers Jez
  21. I will finish this thread off properly but I've been in a mad rush this week!! I was up until 1am on Saturday morning and up again at 7am to try to get this bass ready for the SE Bass Bash but I didn't quite complete everything, I need to finish off the control cavity cover, finish spraying the neck, level the frets and remove any sharp ends. That was the negative but on the plus side I did finish it sufficiently to have a playable instrument. I didn't get chance to try it before the bash but when I plugged it in I was very pleased!! Got some very positive comments at the bash too so doubly pleased! Here's some photos as it stands. It will be a few weeks before I get a chance to finish this properly and take some proper photos as have to get my kitchen operational again as it is currently in pieces!!
  22. I'd better get some pictures of our on here now!! Thanks @ezbass for your comments and for letting me have a go on your lovely Rob Allen. Cheers
  23. Thanks again to everyone for organising this event. It's a bit of a hike for me to get there but is always worth the effort! Really enjoyed the shoot out, very text and Richard's chat/playing. And I got to try some lovely basses too and meet some great folk. Cheers again and see you next year.
  24. Just finished soldering some bass wiring.... See you in a couple of hours
