  1. Ashdown ABM 500 Evo III amp head, now sold thanks
  2. Warren! Yes that’s the man.
  3. Yeah I keep hearing that every couple of years and I’m never sure what the story is. I think it’s closed and reopened in the past. It would be a shame tho as it’s one of the few proper live music venues around here.
  4. Just played a gig for my guitarist’s 50th birthday party at the Donkey in Leicester. Plenty of family and friends seemed to have braved the biblical rain and thunder to come along. Gig included various guest slots etc from other local musicians and friends etc. I took my usual Yamaha BB604, pair of Markbass traveller cabs and took along the Ashdown ABM500 I picked up on here a few months ago. I’ve realised the Ashdown isn’t for me after all. Its textured, deep, pillowy sound doesn’t suit my playing style or my onstage sound as well as my Markbass head. It sounded good, but just not my thing (so expect to see it back up for sale on here in due course!) Oh yes and there was birthday cake too, obviously. So all good.
  5. First good bass was a MIJ Westone Spectrum which was also my first gigging bass back in 1987-1990. I’d be curious to play it again and see how it stands up to the other basses since. A couple of basses later came my 1970 sunburst Precision which I still have. That was my first really good bass. A Peerless-built Epiphone Jack Casady was my first and only hollow-bodied bass which I bought to scratch an itch in 2016 or so and sold a few years later. And my recently-sold MIJ Fender mustang was my first and so far only short scale bass. I’d happily take back that Westone, the Epiphone and the Mustang, tho saying that I haven’t missed any of them enough to replace. Update - the running total I think is that I’ve owned 31 basses over 38 years of playing.
  6. Just back home from playing a great gig at the Anchor in Burbage, Leicestershire, depping with function band Superbad. Looked like a regular village pub, but it seemed to be THE place to go on a Saturday night round these parts. Place was rammed, with a wide range of ages too. Travelled light, using just one bass (Yamaha BB604), a Markbass head and two MB traveller cabs (tho it occurred to me afterwards that my Ashdown head is the exact same size as my pedal board, so I could have taken that and plonked the pedals on top.) Next time maybe. Resisted the urge to stop off for a McDonalds on the way home. Got home to find leftovers of a Chinese takeaway in the fridge instead - jackpot!
  7. Yup I started doing this a few years ago, including instruments, amps, pedals, accessories, cases, the lot. Can’t remember why I started doing it, but over about 10 years now it’s grown to include the bands I’ve been in, notable gigs, any releases I appear on and random facts and figures about further / largest / best paid / worst paid gigs etc. It’s quite interesting looking back over 38 years of playing, but I’ve only got through about 30 basses, 20 or so amps and a handful of acoustic guitars. Over the last few months I’ve begun boiling it down to the bare minimum that I need, so I’m sure there are much more impressive lists out there.
  8. This is the very cab in use a couple of weekends ago. Sounded righteous too….
  9. The trick is remembering any good ideas you did come up with…
  10. Welcome aboard. Was listening to Thunder and Consolation just the other day really loud in the car and enjoying the bass and drums on that. Jeremy Leveller is also very cool on bass!
  11. Hi all, I’ve got two of these great cabs but only really need one (can’t fit both in my car at the same time, much as I’d like to). It’s an Italian-built Markbass Standard 102HF cabinet. It’s a 400w, front-ported 8ohm bass cabinet. I’ve gigged it extensively over the last three years or so (paired with an TRV102P cab which I find to be a lovely combination) and it’s been 100% reliable. Some of the fur is a bit bobbly but no rips, tears or anything beyond what you’d expect from a cab thats been the mainstay of my rig. All works perfectly with no crackles or weird noises. I contacted Markbass some time ago and they reckon its a 2006 model judging from serial number. It’s well cared for, comes with a clean, tidy fitted Roqsolid cover, and has been stored in my smoke-free home. Collection from south Leicestershire or meet-up on this given the size and weight. Price dropped to £250. Any questions drop me a line.
  12. The mix in the opening tune - Message in a Bottle - sounded ropey on my telly but it got better soon after. I was only half watching it at first but got into it. Good work that man.
  13. Hi all, SOLD Im selling this very nice padded double shoulder strap, which is made in Brazil by a company called Evo straps. It’s beautifully made of soft, padded leather and fully adjustable to get a snug fit which distributes the weight of heavier basses onto both shoulders, and seems to also do a decent job of countering neck dive on my own sub-4kg bass. Tried to model it as best I can for these lovely pics. I bought it in 2021 but have never used it except around the house so it’s clean and fantastic condition. I had a shoulder and neck injury at the time but ended up just getting a lighter bass instead. Looking for £40 including UK postage. Shout if any questions. Nice one

  14. Nice pic from last weekend’s Brew Beat festival in Leicester city centre with the Andy Wales Band.
  15. Been using these for years with both guitar and bass. Firm enough to have an attack but enough give in them to be comfortable. I usually have a handful stashed in my wallet and a couple readily available at gigs (often tucked into my cabinet between the grill and the cloth).
  16. Played the BrewBeat festival in Leicester city centre on Saturday afternoon. V interesting band on the bill before us called NFQ - sort of mix of jazz and breakbeats etc with some tasty upright and fretless bass playing too. We (the Andy Wales Band) were on mid afternoon - decent sized crowd, lots of people saying nice things afterwards. I took my Ashdown ABM, my two Markbass 2x10 cabs and my Yamaha BB604. Had it properly cranked too and it sounded good. Managed to dodge the rain too. ps I nicked the pic below off social media - no idea who originally took it but it’s a good shot!
  17. I missed out on Oasis in their heyday (I was around, just not listening to them) so unfortunately my connection with Oasis songs is second-rate pub bands in any town centre on a weekend evening mashing out Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger for drunk punters to sway along to. It’s a “no thanks” from me. Though I appreciate if they meant something to you back in the day then this reunion is exciting news.
  18. Whatever
  19. Bought this as a lockdown purchase as a step up from my Zoom H4n with more tracks etc and actual physical controls rather than fiddly LCD screen things. Anyway, I’ve never got round to using it, and it’s been safely boxed up on a bedroom shelf since. Think I paid £160 for it back in 2021, so I’m happy just to move it on really. It came with an SD memory card. Takes six AA batteries or an adaptor (tho I’ve never had it.) Sold thanks
  20. Likewise! An 850, a 940, a V40 and currently borrowing the mother in laws V70.
  21. Labella flats = the Volvo 940 of bass strings.
  22. I get really stressed out by having gear I don’t use. I’ve got the amount I need plus one for spare. That’s it. Not wealthy enough to be a collector unfortunately, so unless it’s getting used it goes up for sale.
  23. I bought a Darkglass microtubes to add some vintage grit/drive to my tone. I don’t think I’ve ever used it. My band no longer does the one song it would have been good on….
  24. Likewise. I like the valve character of it but it doesn’t really do a raspy gritty drive for me. Warm and organic yes, but not overdriven. That’s what my Microtubes pedal is for.
  25. I’m always the guy bringing spares, and often the only one. 9v batteries are my bugbear - they’re about £5 for a decent one, but if someone needs a spare it then feels a bit mean asking for it back at the end of a gig. Gets expensive quickly tho. I’ve got a sports bag with all my leads, mics, plugs, adaptors, tools etc which just tracks between gigs. I try not to take much out of it for home use cos it upsets my slightly anal system!
