1.
Sorry to bump this, but does anyone have any further info on converting one of these (or any GK head for that matter) to 230/240v? I know you have to move a jumper but do you have to change a fuse too? Cheers
Probably best to change the fuse too. Power = Volts * Current. As you have doubled the voltage, it'll be best to halve the value of the fuse to maintain the same power limit.
2. How do you actually go about booking the seat, in particular online when a name is required? Mr Bass Guitar, or do you book two seats in your own name? What about check in? How does the conversation usually go? Do you get two boarding cards etc? From the tone of your post it seems there are no problems booking an extra seat, but I'm just curious if the airlines (low cost airlines) and security may frown on it and cause you problems and try to stop you from flying or charge you extra money etc.
3.
anything to recommend tonight
Hard Rock Cafe normally have a covers band on a Friday night
4. Concerning GK, I would recommend spending a bit extra and buying from the Artist series, rather than the Backline series you mention in your original post.
5. Not too sure of all the details myself, but a quick search on the GK Forum I found these links; http://www.gallien.com/smf/index.php?topic=1172.0 http://www.gallien.com/smf/index.php?topic=981.0 http://www.gallien.com/smf/index.php?topic=961.0 Maybe you'll be able to dig a little deeper for more details.
6. Apart from the difference in output power, I think some of the GK Mk I amps also had a problem with a particular circuit board over-heating and causing problems. I've think this board can be replaced with the Mk II version, and if the amp has been serviced properly this may have already been done. I've had a 700RB-II for two years now, and it's rock solid!
7. We have a potential new drummer coming along tonight. There have been about 20 emails back and forward with lots of questions etc, making sure we know as much as possible about each other before meeting up. I even said to him it's a chance to see if we're ok for him too! Anyway fingers crossed he'll turn up. We have been in this situation twice before over the last 6 weeks and both drummers failed to show up despite confirmation of dates times locations etc etc. No word at all from them!!
8. A recent one i like is Eddie Vedder - music from 'Into The Wild'
9. I've had mine over a year now, and I've not wanted anything else since!
10.
Pikefloyd, what size gigs do you use the GK 700RBII-210 without PA assistance & do you use a cab with it? This very combo was what I was originally looking at but then found a little extra funds to stretch to the 1001 210 combo or the MB CMD 102P (which I keep hearing wonderful things about) & then if needs be add a cab, maybe that would be to build a Bill Fitzmaurice cab.
At band practice I use just the GK 700RBII-210, and I have no problems at all keeping up with the drummer and guitarist, (who has a 100W Valve Marshall head and 4x12 Cab), I have plenty of headroom. At gigs I also use the GK 410 SBX extension cabinet, which to be honest is probably overkill for the size of gigs we play (300 people max, but usually pubs etc). With the extension cabinet i get the full 480watts out of the head, I don't plug into the PA.
11. I got one exactly a week ago, not sure if i've felt any benefits yet, (not that i had any RSI or anything) but been seeing a gradual improvement in my RPM, up to 7100 in left hand and 10300 in right!
12. I have a GK 700RBII-210 combo, since hearing it, and hearing other peoples rigs, (Ampeg and Ashdown), I've not wanted anything else, but it's all down to personal preference in the end.
13. Stage left for me, (on the right side from the crowd perspective). Fairly close to hi-hat
14.
Anyone got or tried a Corvette $$?
Yes, I have one, couldn't be happier, no GAS for almost a year now!
15. What channel was it on? Might be able to see it again on iplayer or 4OD or something?
16. A bit more technical information about Gibson's self tuning guitar here; http://www.theengineer.co.uk/Articles/303949/Stay+tuned.htm

18. Only 6 gigs this year We have gone through a guitarist change and and a drummer change, (50% of band) We're just about back up to speed now, ready for the new year!
19. I do some backing vox, I'm glad everyone agrees it takes lots and lots of practice, I thought it was just me being crap, taking absolutely ages to learn it!
20. I have the GK700RB-II 210 Combo, couldn't be happier with it!
21.
200 watts is actually only twice as loud as 20 watts anyway (it's physics, man) so with 1000 watts of drums hammering away next to you you'll likely need to upgrade your amp at some point.
Just a little trivia here! As a rule of thumb I use; +3dB is doubling power -3dB is halving power +10dB is sticking a zero on the end +20dB is sticking two zeros on the end +30dB is sticking three zeros on the end With reference to 1 watt 0dB = 1 watt 3dB = 2 watts (doubling) 6dB = 4 watts (doubling again) 9dB = 8 watts 10dB = 10 watts (add a zero) 13dB = 20 watts (add a zero and double) 16dB = 40 watts 19dB = 80 watts 20dB = 100 watts (add two zeros) 23dB = 200 watts (add two zeros and double) 26dB = 400 watts 29dB = 800 watts 30dB = 1000 watts (add three zeros) a bit dull but but may be of interest to some of you!!
22.
dog turd not included
Forget it then!
