1. Great news - well done Clarky!!! BBC London is also available on Sky Channel 0152 for the out-of-towners like me.
2.
Holy flippen crap! That's a setlist and a half!
Oh, and add to that In That Quiet Earth, Fly on a Windshield and afterglow!
3. Just got back to the wilds of Essex. Everything Clarky said! Songs like that are just not crafted any more, and it's a real shame. John Wetton's rendition of Afterglow brought tears to my eyes. Thirty quid for the best part of three hours great entertainment? Best bargain I've had in a long while! (And that included the time machine back to 1976:) )
4.
That is good news Gary if you recieved it recently. Things piled up Aug - Oct last year so maybe they recovered. How long ago did you recieve yours?
It was ready to ship just before Christmas, but as I was away I asked Alex to hold until the first day back in the new year.
5.
The 70's DID absolutely rock. I was there for a lot of it. Such a great decade, let's not forget... Garry Glitter, Jeremy Thorpe, Jimmy Savile, James Callaghan, Richard Nixon, Ted Bundy, Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Carter, Pol Pot, The C@740713 C4(£5h, Brian Walden, Raymond Baxter.
Great decade! I was going to post my highlights, but you beat me to it!
6. My S12T/V took a little longer than quoted, but not a whole lot. Mine was held up by the driver delivery rather than build issues. I'm very pleased with mine, as are my bandmates. I've not a/b'd.it with another 2x12, but it beats everything else I've had. As with all things, personal taste plays such a huge part in determining what is right for you, but for me, the S12 brings the best out of my bass and amp. Try one if you can! Or if you're not worried about timescale, buy one and send it back if you don't like it.
7. I set up a gmail calendar to do this for my band. It's a great idea but falls down when no-one else either reads or updates it - to the point where we once turned up for rehearsals to eventually find out that the keys player was in Tallin! I do like the look of the app, though, and I might just use it myself anyway. Good spot!
8.
Basschat's very own OBBM
A big +1 on that Tom. Very well made and good value in my opinion. Plus Dave's a really helpful guy to deal with, which is always good!
9. I bought an item on here and I know the seller made a bit of a profit. I have no problem with that at all. He bought well and I was prepared to pay the asking price because I thought it was a fair deal. In fact, I had earlier missed out on a similar item that was more expensive because I wasn't quick enough.
10.
"Probably the last bass I will ever buy" filed under "never drinking again" and "I swear thats the last time I am sleeping with her"
I know it sounds implausible, but, honest! I had my Wal for twenty-odd years up until I had to sell it a couple of years ago. I'm a creature of habit, really!
11. Here’s the thing… I have a big birthday coming up this year, and also a bit of a need for some retail therapy. I’ve gotten rid of my GAS for amps and cabs, and don’t use effects any more. If I’m honest, I don’t really have GAS for a new bass, more that I just fancy treating myself. A while ago I bought a Status Energy 4, just to see how I got on with it (in particular the graphite neck). I really liked it. I don’t need anything better, as I don’t gig anywhere near as much as I used to. If I do get a new bass it will likely be the last instrument I will ever buy, so I was thinking of a new S2 Classic so that I could spec it to exactly what I want. I appreciate they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but they are mine, so don’t try to talk me into another make! I’m very fortunate that the money isn’t a huge issue, as I can cover a lot of it by offloading stuff that’s surplus to requirements and cluttering the place up. If I order one soon I could get it delivered for my birthday, which would be good. The question is – do I or don’t I? Would my modest use be a waste of a good instrument, or is it OK just to want something for the sake of owning a nice thing? Your valued opinions please…
12. Barefaced S12T/V. Last cab I'll ever need to buy.
13. I don't think it's too harsh to look elsewhere for another singer. Why on earth join a band when you don't like most of the set list? We all have to play some stuff we're not keen on from time to time, but it's all about a bit of compromise. However, if you dislike the whole genre a band plays, where's the sense in joining that band? His gig connections are pretty worthless when he's left you without enough material to do a gig!
14. Wise words, as usual, from Mr Foxen, but an idea of your budget would be helpful. But something with a decent DI out would suit you, unless you feed the amp with a line in from the PA.
15. Loving the S12T/V. Long gone are the days of my mahooooosive Trace stack, which sounded great standing right in front of it, but was so variable out front where it matters. Dispersion of the BF is superb. Even if it wasn't light I would still want one!
16. I ordered one in December and it came in about four days. Was it a stock item or did it have personalisation? Did you receive an email with your order number? If so, drop them an email back asking for a delivery date. If you didn't get a confirmation, then something may have gone wrong in their order process. Again, drop them a line. Hope it works out!
17.
My thoughts would be that you aren't in need of an effect for this. It would be better to develop bass lines that support the song and fill any holes your guitarist can't cover (if indeed the holes need filling - sometimes less is more).
I'm with you on this. Depending on the song and style it might be effective to busy-up the bass line or double-up the timing. The important thing is to work closely with the drummer on this - it's his job too! Have a listen to some bands with the same instrumentation who play a similar genre to yours and listen to what they do with the bass and drums in solo sections.
18.
You gonna be using the Streamliner or the Thunderfunk? The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking eventually to get a BF. The EBS Proline 410 I use at the moment is wonderful with the Streamliner but it's just a monster to move about. If I could get something which sounds as big and as good as the Proline but half the weight and size, I'd be a very happy bunny. T
Funnily enough, I was using an EBS Proline with my Streamliner, but the betweetered 1x15. Sounds great with the STM900, but the S12T is just a different animal altogether. No trouble handling the big lows of the amp, great clarity and punch, and the potential to go insanely loud. All that with a one-hand lift, plus wheels if you're feeling lazy. And it fits through doors without taking the skin off your knuckles!
19. Depends if you got any paperwork with it - I believe the warranty is transferable.
20.
Talkbass? Is that another internet forum type thing? Looks like I may have to. Thanks.
Hi Paul, If you've not found the answer yet this might help: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/genz-benz-streamliner-900-blue-interior-light-out-946029/
21.
Headroom. If you can go for the 900 over the 600, great. If not, either amp is gonna be a fine investment. Ultimately, with the 900, the controls go down as well as up
+1 That's exactly why I went for the 900 as well. I had concerns about controlling the power, but there really is no problem. For the extra £100 you may as well have the headroom.
22. I have the 900 and it does everything from quite to insane!
23. If it's a bass, I won't even plug it in. If it doesn't feel right and sound basically good unplugged, what's the point? In terms of amplification, i find it so difficult in any environment other than live/rehearsal. It's what it sounds like at proper volume and in the mix that matters. To that effect, I usually play some high stuff, some low stuff, some chords, etc, just to see how it handles it.
