1.
is this it? http://www.thomann.d...tandem_poti.htm This is the pot I emailed them about. Says its a Dual Volume pot. Will it do the job for the Bass/Treble?
I thought that volume pots are usually log, and that treble/bass controls were linear, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c6491bf72 But please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I'm no expert! Out of interest, what are you fitting it to?
2. I have one in my Status Energy at the moment. Works pretty well, really. Doesn't colour the tone, cut/boost on mine is at 100hz and 4kz I think, but i have mine set flat as that sounds best to my ear. Not much noise, good battery life. Strikes me as a great value budget unit as long as you like the inherent sound of your instrument. Having said that, I'm replacing it with an OBP1 because I don't want it to sound good, I want it to sound incredible!
3.
Hey Gary thats really decent of you
Sorry KP - I've let you down in an epic fail! Thought this should have been a pretty straight forward install. The Aguillar circuit diagram is easy enough to follow, and said to use the original volume and balance. The original cuircuitry had been replaced with an Artec 2-band which is totally pre-wired with just the pups and jack socket to solder in, but I had the original parts, so used these. First strange thing was that the balance ended up working the wrong way round (ie, as two volume controls starting at zero volume in the centre). (Yes I did have the wiring diagram the right way up, and was viewing the pots from the right direction!) I compared the balance/volume wiring with a photograph I found, but that just confused things. The old original pots were very, very worn, so I thought at this stage I would call it, put the Artec back, and get some new ones before attempting it again. After all, I've invested time on refurbishing it so far, i figure I might as well get it right! I hope I can get you that review very shortly!
4.
The Fusion is "warmer" and more organic sounding because of the valves in the preamp, and it has a second "overdrive" channel which I LOVE! I tend to run it flat but with the Deep boost engaged, it sounds absolutely spit on. The Mb200 is a bit more clinical in comparison and when pushed you get a nice musical limiter into the mix. Obviously the Fusion has more headroom do not yet found the limiter on it! Hope that helps
Thanks Merton, what I'd imagined, really. Certainly doesn't help the gas much!
5. I think the MB200 is fantastic value. It definitely has its own sound, very typically GK, but on a budget. I run mine through an EBS 1x15 with a tweeter (albeit heavily attenuated) and it is mightily loud for a tiny amp (12 o'clock balances just fine with a reasonably loud drummer). I could see hiss being an issue if cranked up with a tweeter-fitted cab, but by the time you got to the hiss being annoying, the sound would be dreadful on the ear anyway! Unfortunately, I can't comment on the MiBass, though - sorry! That must be a nice setup there Merton - can't wait for my Super 12T to come. What are the main benefits of the MB Fusion over the MB200 in your opinion, specifically with regard to the S12T?
6. I had a similar situation just recently. I emailed Rob, and asked if he had a replacement, but he was out of stock. I didn't want to butcher the bass or change the look by drilling extra holes, so I got an Aguilar OBP1. Not as flexible as the OBP3 - just 2 band, boost only (went with the OBP1 as opposed to the OBP2 because the treble is set lower and seemed to make more sense to me on a two-band). I'm going to install it at the weekend, and rehearse on Monday, so if you're interested I'll let you know the result.
7.
MB1. ...Does Lord Sheraton know?
Certainly not - his Char Lady smuggled it out for me!
8. I've used Lord Sheraton's Balm on my recent refinish, as recommended by my furniture-restoring neighbour. It's beeswax cut with white spirit and linseed oil. Seems to work pretty well, creamy consistency that's very easy to apply and doesn't dry sticky at all. Only time will tell on it's durability, though!
9. Looking immensely forward to your review when you get your S12. Just ordered a Super 12T today, and the Streamliner is on the shortlist if I replace my MB200.
10. Day job punctuated with a couple of emails to Alex at Barefaced to order my Super 12T!!! Then home to duplicate and label a load of CDs to get gigs to pay for it. Good thing about the S12T is it's smaller and lighter than my EBS, so I can tell my wife it's cheaper!
11. Just been dealing with Barrie at Bassgear and I have to say, what a great buch of guys to deal with! I was only spending a hundred quid, but the lengths Barrie went to to make sure I got what I needed were a breath of fresh air in these days of generally poor service. And no bull either - if he wasn't sure about something he went off and checked so I had the right answer. Very highly recommended!
12. Beautiful bass Ziggy! For me there's just something about the way a stunning peice of maple goes so well against the graphite. Droooool!!!
13. Just had an RCF Art12A looked at by these guys: Essex Amp Repairs & Guitar Services - 01376 502160 http://www.essexamprepairs.co.uk/ Couple of minutes off the A12 at Witham, Essex. Lots of testing, re-soldering and bench-testing later I got the active speaker back working fine. Charged just an hour's labour. Nice friendly guys, very reasonable hourly rate.
14. Well, last week, actually, but as the saying goes, no pics, no bass! This is my newly acquired Status Matrix Energy 4, early model with graphite neck, purchased on BC from Ian (Blunderthumbs). Perfect neck with minimum fret wear; body is showing its years, but not abused - nothing structural and nothing that won't come out with a bit of elbow grease and a re-finish! Massively impressed with the playability and tone in rehearsals this week, and will be unleashing it on the public on Saturday Got a feeling this will be my 'go-to' bass for a long time to come.
15. Just bought a Status bass from Ian. Great guy to deal with. Very good communication and the bass was exactly as described (and cost me a lot of sleep last night as I couldn't put it down!). Highly recommended seller!
16. I once played in a band with a keyboard player that 'disovered Ah-Ah'. What he actually did was put together a rough demo for them, and then write them off as 'a nice bunch of lads, but they'll never amount to much'. Guess which version he always told?
17. I've got the opportunity to trade out my Cort T74 plus a small amount of cash for an Ibanez SR700. I play rock & indie covers in my gigging band. The only niggle I have with the Cort is the shape, particularly right angles on the edge; just a personal thing, really. Sound and playability I like, but the Ibbys have got good rep for that too. Anyone got an opinion of the EMG HZs v Bartolini Series Ones? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
18. I took a Trace Elliot cab back to the Bass Centre when it was in Wapping. Simple drop off faulty one, pick up new one; how hard can that be? Came out with a Wal Custom.
19. Most important thing so far is Jaqueslemac's last sentence - once you are agreed, WRITE IT DOWN! I fell foul of this in a band where we were all 'mates' until it came to the dissolution of the band and its assets (PA and lights). I wanted to sell and split the proceeds, whereas the two that stored the gear wanted to keep it. Not to go into too much detail, yours truly got shafted! Also gets complicated if there are line-up changes, where people can end up owning different shares of the gear - again, write it down. Personally, I would still say that it's fair enough to all chip in for the reasons already given, but if others use the PA outside the band, then that counts as an extra share they have to invest. I wouldn't really be interested in buying the mics, though, as I see these as being personal equipment in the same way as a bass is to me! Perhaps try to agree a second-hand value in advance (as you lose much of the value as you walk out of the shop).
20.
PM sent, i'll take it Dave
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I went to bed ten minutes before Dave's post, and when I got up the bass had effectively gone! Damn those early birds, they always get that worm! The search continues... Enjoy the bass Roger :-)
21. Just purchased Ian's EBS 300 cab. Great guy, very helpful and an absolute pleasure to deal with! Gary
