hey guys, been doing some thinking recently - do i really need my ampeg SVT CL and SVT HLF610? They're bloody heavy and i don't actually think i have room for them in my flat! I'm not gigging that often per say - maybe once a month if I'm lucky (and we're talking for 30/40 mins). Was thinking of getting a Sansamp RBI with some form of power amp perhaps with a lightweight/small 2 or 4x10. I play mainly dance/rock/daft stuff - Like really effects laiden and what not. I realize that the SVT is amazing sounding, I just feel i'm wasting it and killing my back/car at the sametime. Help?
RBI into a lightweight power amp with a Genz 2x12. Has and does work for me!

As part of a small gear change-around I'm offering up one of my amazing Genz Benz Neox212T cabs! Here's the gumph: Genz Benz NEOX-212T Description: 600 W, 2x12" Neodymium speaker with tweeter. A compact, dual 12" design that drives with the heart of a 4 x 10" enclosure. The coupling of the 2 Neodymium loudspeakers along with the X porting of the cabinet combine to project round, solid, explosive performance on any stage. The lightweight design, "Edge-Lift" handles and tilt-back casters make traveling with this NEO a breeze. GNX 12300 Neodymium Loudspeaker: Our custom designed 12" Neodymium cast frame Loudspeaker is rated at 300 watts RMS and utilizes a 2 1/2" aluminum edge-wound high temperature voice coil. The 7 oz Neodymium magnet assembly is encased in a large heat sink structure for exceptional cooling. The paper cone, spider and dust cap have been calibrated to deliver the low frequency support and mid range articulation that today's bassist demand. Dual Edge Porting Integrated into the cabinet design is a unique "Dual Edge" porting system which places a shelf port in each corner of the baffle face, forming an "X" across the radiating surface of the enclosure for increased low frequency support and projection. Genz Benz NEOX-212T Specifications: Power Handling RMS: 600W Frequency +/- 3db: 42-18K Hz Sensitivity 1W/1M : 101 db Nominal Impedance :4 ohm Crossover Point : 4 K Hz Weight Lbs. :50 Dimensions HxWxD: 31" x 21 1/4 " x 16 1/2" These cabs have received amazing reviews for their incredible sound in an amazingly portable package. I loved them when they were in Wapping, but since they went to Liverpool St (and then Internet-only) I've seen too many of my friends have bad experiences with them. I, for one, will never use them again....

Gorgeous collection!! Loving the BC Riches and the Charvel!
Probably should have thought of this before, but if I back the volume pots down to around 6 then the signal cleans right up no matter the playing style or tone adjustment.
There you go.... the full 18v signal is just too hot for your old Trace head methinks...

I used to encounter the same thing in Sound Control (RIP) on London's Oxford St.... you're not alone!

Not sure if this has been linked to before..... or whether it will come out anytime soon?
I see the Globe in Cardiff are advertising that you're playing there on Friday 26th August - is that a definite?
Yep, certainly is!

From what I've read - the BOSS ME8B was a MAJOR part of his early tone....
Wow... 12pages and still going...... I do take offence though that it seems a lot of people on this thread think that Slap bass seems to be rubbish, not to be done, shouldn't be used as it's only for those who are of lesser musicality....
I'm not reading this thread in that way..... I'm seeing many people who acknowledge that, when played well, it has a valid place in certain musical situations....However, the endless, tuneless, 'clickety clack' heard at the Bass Day was annoying and in no way conducive to ascertaining the capabilities/tonal palette of any bass or amplifier....
I think there are two elements to this. Once you have the basic slap techniques down, it's easy to play very FAST. Unmusical instrument operators find FAST impressive and they enjoy doing it, and they think others do too. But it becomes a FAST competition, much like competitive athletics. Really musical people know other really musical people will find a single note played with extreme taste much more impressive, and that one note will say more about the player and his personality than thirty two in the same measure ever can. Unfortunately really musical people have always been in the minority.
Nice post Nige.... I take heart in the fact that there seem to be quite a few of the latter on this thread
