  1. Are you talking about pa or backline? I wouldn't use either as backline. That kind of low on stage is just annoying mush and would get on everyone's nerves. In terms of pa it would depend entirely on the spl charts for any individual box. I dont think you can endorse or write off one design over the other as there are huge variations in performance and behaviour within each type.
  2. That's awesome, thanks Douglas. The ignite vst looks nice and simple but with loads of flexibility for what I need.
  3. I've got to put down a few bass parts for some promo videos for the band but my helix is locked in the back of the band van at our storage lockup. Don't want to make a trip out there if I can avoid it what with covid-19 floating about on every st corner and the lockup being 45 mi s drive away. Can anyone recommend me a decent free vst? Something vintagey with a bit of grit. Cheers
  4. My main live patch for Helix floor that I use with my function band doing indie pop rock covers. Varying drive levels and a couple of eq / gain options for pick use and using my spector that has a slightly lower output than my other basses. I set my board with snapshots along the bottom and fx on the top row. Two parallel chains with one sent to 1/4 out which goes to an amp when i use one and the other chain to xlr to foh. Live.hlx
  5. Fortunately I only really play weddings so with a bit of luck that sort of venue will be back up and running as soon as they get the green light. We usually do a lot of corporate xmas gigs and I expect that to be almost non existent for at least a year or two. Pubs may well need to do a bit more of a steady recovery before they put bands on.
  6. This is the problem with government "advice". Its just not getting through to a lot of people in the same way an enforced lockdown would.
  7. I'm literally amazed that venues are still allowing gigs to go ahead. We are booked for a 21st birthday party in Coventry on Saturday and the venue have said "we are happy to go ahead as long as we can square it with the staff". The client is adamant that her daughter will have a party. It looks like we are going to be the ones to pull the plug as we feel we have a social responsibility not to be involved in gigs at the moment. There are lots of rumours of a full lockdown on the horizon and that the army are preparing to mobilize to enforce it. Would actually make life a lot easier for us if they did as then everyone is clear on where we stand.
  8. We've been discussing this this evening. With all our gigs being weddings then whoever hits the button and cancels, be it client, venue or supplier, will be the one looking at losing the most. We're looking at every booking and wondering who's going to blink first?
  9. I think our agency are going to pull all of ours (and all other acts on their books) until further notice. I can see a lot of agencies going under.
  10. The announcement that the govt are making as I type will essentially put an end to most of all of our gigs for the foreseeable future. They are advising against gatherings of any size from this point forward until further notice.
  11. We have over 90 weddings in the diary this year. So far no cancellations but surely only a matter of time. The problem is that almost every gig we have is a wedding and therefore the clients have huge amounts of money tied up in them. It must be a nightmare for them. Especially if the over 70s are forced to isolate and therefore parents or grandparents would miss the big day. We played a charity fundraiser last night for forces veterans. They sold 400 tickets and only 80 people turned up. It was pretty depressing.
  12. Literally just finished installing the Uni Pre. It's a tight fit in the cavity but it does go in properly. Initial impressions are great and there's a heap of flexibility. I have east preamps in all my active basses now because I find that sweepable mid control so useful. I'm happy and it's finished off the bass nicely for me so it will now become a real workhorse for me.
  13. Be interested to hear how the darkglass sounds. I just picked up a Euro 4LX with Aguilar pickups and Aguilar obp-2 pre. Sounds great but the pre is really noisy so going to swap out for an East Uni Pre because I love the east pres and I wanted sweepable mid control.
  14. Likewise, I float too. I used to anchor my thumb somewhere when I was a noob but soon realized that it would be much more beneficial to be able to have infinite adjustment as to where I pluck. In fairness it was my bass teacher that made me realise and then drilled it into me.
  15. Currently I run a pest control business specialising purely in commercial contract work alongside being in a busy function band. The pest control is my bread and butter and I love the stability it provides. I am a fully qualified joiner and cabinet maker and have also worked around the world as a snowboard instructor in winters and a kitesurfing instructor in summers. I swore I would never settle down and live in the uk but then I met the love of my life, completely by chance whilst living in Austria, and now we are settled with two perfect kids.
  16. We virtually never turn down work but reasons would include: Unworkable noise limitations If accepting the booking would make it logistically impossible to get to or from another booking that has already been made. Venue or client making unreasonable and unworkable requests or stipulations. All our bookings are handled by an agent who we have worked with for years and who keeps our diary full. They know we will do everything in our power to make a gig work, our fee is non negotiable and they know exactly what our requirements are. 99 times out of 100 they can make the booking without consulting us but if, for example, they have a client who wants us to travel overseas or do something unusual they will give us a call. Obviously its likely that they are turning stuff down on our behalf if people contact them offering below our set fee etc. We turned down 1 venue last year due to our experience with their limiter that was set very low but accepted well over 100 (including many with much more sensibly set limiters). We did add 1 venue to our blacklist too. We even accepted a booking for Christmas day this year, much to the annoyance of our other halfs but all agreed that the fee was worth it. Unavailability of a band member is never an issue. We all arrange and pay for our own deps if we want to be unavailable. The band is a business and nobody has the right to stop other members earning.
  17. I used to run two identical TKS 1126 cabs in the exact same colour with an Aguilar DB750. It was a glorious rig. Sold them all on here so wondering if I ever owned anything in this pic.
  18. That's pretty poor. That's definitely not what should happen with any instrument let alone one at this price point.
  19. I've never really considered the weight of my basses and only ever find out what they weigh when I put them up for sale.
  20. I had the same issues with screws in mine about 2 years ago. I had to send the neck back because they had forgotten to fit the luminlay dots but the neck screws were so cheap that three of them sheared off and two of those were in at wonky angles. Ultimately the whole bass was returned because the list of faults was extensive. I must stress that Adrian was very good about it and after he inspected the bass he refunded me in full and gave me a little extra as an apology.
  21. As soon as you get a mixer that allows you to control your own mix with a tablet you're in a great position to look at entry level iems. That will cost an awful lot less than a QSC k12 and almost certainly make your life easier. You can tweak away to your hearts content without upsetting anyone else in the band or the sound man.
  22. Any decent active pa speaker will do a good job of a monitor provided you are feeding it with the right mix from the desk. I would never worry too much about having controls on the speaker because all your tinkering can be done either at the desk if it's an analogue mixer or via app if you have a digital mixer.
  23. I need a few bits to sell before I'll have the funds but if it's still available when they've gone then I'll be all over it like a fat lass on chips.
  24. Lovely sound and great playing. I adore my bb1024x and should probably look at a 2024x at some point. If I can find one that is.
  25. No, I have even tried switching lights on / off and moving around the studio. Nothing seems to make it worse or better. I've had loads of active basses over the years but this is the first time I've had an aguilar pre and the first time I've ever had a problem.
