1. Serious or not, he's only saying what the rest of us are thinking.
2.
(Whispering very, very quietly) I once did. Even worse, I've seen Cliff Richard, admittedly with the Shadows. My big sisters made me.
I'll see your Cliff Richard, and raise you Black Lace! BTW I love hearing slap bass - I feel that one of the main purposes of bass guitar is to make people want to dance, and slap does that for me. Unfortunately, I can't actually do it very well at all despite years of trying!
3. Rory Gallagher - Laundromat or Bullfrog Blues (with bass solo!)
4. Bump! Hope you enjoy the Q-Tron, Netballman.
5. Q-Tron now sold. Will accept £25 for Bass Compactor. Also, is there any interest out there in a Boss CE-2B Chorus Pedal?
6. Big Muff now sold.
7. Oh, but it can be! (active/passive selector switch)
8. Another Bump!
9.
Yeh, well, it's yer maple board, innit? Can't go wrong wiv a maple board, mate.
+1. And perfect with the sunburst Had a go on a P-Bass last week and now have serious GAS. Played like butter I think the saying goes.
10. For sale – the following three effects pedals: - Electroharmonix Mini Q-tron - Electroharmonix Big Muff - Tech 21 Bass Compactor They each come with a mains adaptor and Velcro on the bottom. The EHX pedals also have adaptor cables for a Diago power station. A few scratches on the face of the EHX pedals but they function perfectly. Looking for £35 each incl. P&P Here is a photo: Will accept £25 for Bass Compactor
11. Thanks for the comments guys.
12. I am looking to sell my Yamaha BB1100s, bought new in 1987. It was gigged regularly over the next few years and underwent the following modifications in the late eighties/early nineties: - brass/bone nut - OBL pickups - Schaller bridge - Hipshot D-tuner - Pickup selector replaced with pan switch After buying a Kubicki bass in 1992, I had the frets taken out of this one, realised I couldn't play fretless and put it in the loft. Fast forward to the present day. It has now had a new maple fretboard and a general spruce up. It has a few dings – mainly on the base of the body and the end of the headstock – but still looks and sounds great. I am looking for £350 (was £400), which will cover the cost of the latest mods! This includes a hard case covered in lots of stickers from the 80's. No trades – sorry. Here are some photos:
13. Great pictures. Didn't realise that the early P's had the strings through body feature.
14. The bassline still sounds like Jaco - Even on a keyboard!
15. I would suggest speaking to the drummer and asking him how he thinks that it's going. Interesting how you get used to someone over time, though. A drummer who I have played in several bands with depped with my current band the other week. The rest of the band commented that he tended to slow down - I've never noticed!! S**t - does that make me a fraud too?
16. For me, the old style pickguard only looks 'right' with the pickup cover on. Shame they didn't do that for this bass.
17. My Jazz has a J-Retro, a Badass bridge and a D-tuner. That's about £400 worth. I also can't speak highly enough of the J-Retro - AND I didn't ask for the discount!
18.
there are more costly hobbies.
+1 Being in a band is my golf. I wonder what my handicap would be...
19.
Get one of everything that's the best bet IMO
The Holy trinity? I quite like that idea.
20. I would keep my right thumb on the low B, and keep everything simple.
21.
certainly wouldn't wack a J-Retro in a 73 .. sacrilege!
I must admit that I don't really understand this argument. Like many, I would love a vintage Fender. However, I would then be happy to make some non-intrusive mods so it plays and sounds as good as it can be - and then go out and enjoy playing it! I think that collectors can get a bit anal about the value of instruments as an investment - I mean, even a pre-cbs would not give you enough to retire on would it?
22.
buy and fit a John East J-Retro 01 preamp.
+1. I can't tell you what a massive difference this has made to my sound (and playing) in just a few short weeks.
23. I bet Mustang Sally sounds the business on that bass.
24. I have always thought that most music shops would benefit from being firebombed! However, it is always a pleasure dealing with the Bass Merchant. Nothing is too much trouble.
