1. OK so I have a KK bassmax on my double bass, which sounds great unless it is at talking volume then it feeds back like mad, I have got a Fishman Plat Pro EQ which helps and for most people solves the feedback issue, not for me so I have fitted a Schaller 411 Mag pickup to the end of the finger board which works great and you can play at stadium volumes with no problems, but it sounds a little bit like a big P bass on its end, not as much as people said though in fairness, think about how a hollow body old gretcsh sounds compared to a solid body bass the make the hollow body massive! Ok so what I decided was to put the Piezo via the fishman and remove any frequencies that were causing a problem then blend that with the mag pickup which has a volume knob of its own too, A Piezo in, B Schaller in and come out of one output to the amp and use the two volume pots to give a nice even balance between the two pickups, job done!....NO The AB only selects one at a time, I need to be able to select both ins to one out which I thought it could do, I though pressing the pedal would scroll A-B-A&B-mute or similar, is does not What can I do folks? What will happen if I just get a lead and split two onto one 1/4 jack to join the mag and output from the Fishman (The piezo must go via the Fishman to remove the feedback) I was all ready to make a special lead using 2 core and shield then split to two mono jacks for Mag and Piezo, colour code them both ends so one end goes to the Fishman in and one to Mag into the AB pedal input, I presume the shared shield would work OK? Does what I need exist? Thanks
2. I guess mahogany just makes us presume it will be heavy, great colour and neck, I like it.
3.
anybody willing to give a beginner bowing lesson?
+1
4.
Andy McCluskey of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark plays right handed upside down! I always wondered why, it's not logical for a right handed player to do this.
Ah you have solved my quest,I knew one must exist! Are there any more? I can only see that they must have picked up a lefty bass or guitar when starting.
5. I love the look of the t bird, the neck dive for me is an issue regardless of who that upsets, I can't just move along as suggested as my left hand is not for holding the neck up, it's for playing notes, very pretty basses though IMO. On the other hand if they made a five string grabber I'd be first in the queue as would the fella from Paramore to save him swapping basses to his B-D one, grabber five in dark metallic almost black please please please Gibson!
6. That doesn't stop you trying one if you see one
7. Have you tried a classic, ok there not worth the money but I don't really care but they are really nice basses.
8. Playing (and listening to) as many styles and genres of music is probably the most practical way of learning to just feel it, I've been lucky to play with some great drummers which has helped me see what goes where, messing around with the beat without the front person realising is when it's right yet the feel is different, if you keep getting funny looks from them your just sloppy Nod your head bang on the beat then play the note after, the longer the nod the longer the delay, before the beat is harder I'm not sure how competent I am at that really and crap drummers will usually speed up rather than hold the same time ime
9. Not at all, informed pre eb fans know all about the different pre amps available and longer pickup pole pieces, three bolt necks, thru body stringing etc hence why I said 1979 onwards rather than earlier, the fit finish, neck, hardware, sound and feel on my classic five is better than any atk and so it should for over two thousand pounds
10. Not being able to play on the beat and consciously playing in a constant space before or after the beat are different things, it only becomes a feel thing once you know what you are doing when it becomes second nature IMO
11. That's one funky bass! Is it weighty?
12.
Shame on me for having an opinion...
I didn't say you couldn't have one, the FACT that you can buy a brand new 2 eq stingray today in a shop near you fitted with the same pickup and exact same two band preamp using the same micro chip as a stingray from around 1979 would suggest your more modern stingray comment is flawed that's all
13. First thing to check is the Jack socket, make sure it does disconnect the battery when the lead is out as some basses don't, fit one that does if not for a few quid.
14. I am a w***er so I'd have been fine with it I'm not sure what's worse, I think I'd rather play for seven years with one bloke shouting w***er all night than one gig playing Sting songs
15. Hello! I have indeed gone for a mag pickup, a Schaller 411, I'm really happy with it and it's given me the confidence to gig the upright now I can here what I'm playing! I'm going to blend my piezo in with ALL frequencies removed that cause any trouble with the Fishman plat pro, I've ordered a Behringer ab100 so I can end up with a single output to go either to my amp or the pa, for blues or county etc it should work well and with the piezo mixed in for a bit of that DB tone it should sound a lot less fretless P bass held on end! It will be at the derby bash on Sunday
16. PS I've been looking for the reverse but never found one, a right hander playing a normal strung lefty?
17. There are more of them than you think, the bloke from The Doves does it I'm fairly certain as does our local busker on a 12 string acoustic, I presume they are self taught on an instrument left lying around especially a symmetrical acoustic.
18. I swap my batteries and strings once a year now, all three at the same time
19.
Fixed that for you there...
Have they changed the modern stingray then without me looking?
20. I'm really looking forward to it, my ab pedal has arrived at my parents as I'm in Spain but I should be able to get it set up to use both the mag pickup and the kk bass max together with a shuttle 3.0 and 1x10 cab on Sunday.
21. The ATK is great as long you dont want a bass that looks or sounds like a Stingray
22.
Actually, I forgot that Nate Newton from Converge used a Stingray for quite a while (since switched to Precisions). Unconventional but awesome Stingray tone at 0:40 on this track!
I wasn't familiar with them, thats easy listening covered now then too
23.
You missed out Acoustic David Bowie, Live Acoustic "Heroes": http://youtu.be/pBiiFplMWls
Sorry yes clearly no good for that either! Can we decide which of these tricks it is good at is the one trick it does? If you can't cover every genre with one you need to look closer to home imo
24. All these clips of Disco, Pop, Rock, Funk, Soul, Ballads, Prog Rock, Blues, 80's Slap etc are just high lighting just what a one trick pony the Stingray really is
25. I am on PC now so here are some links, there grasp of different styles is excellent. The original one TNIT linked that got me hooked All I can say is http://youtu.be/_PVLCZE_ov0
