Compared my Genz Benz Shuttlemax 9.2 with a Markbass SD800
stingrayPete1977 replied to far0n's topic in Amps and Cabs
It's in my manual I'm sure, from memory it's 80hz in normal mode and allows down to 37hz when you engage the LF button. This topic is always followed by an argument about why I have a five string bass if my amp only goes down to 37hz...... -
Nope it would be the wood right next to the glue instead You have seen Nick's stingray he glued back together haven't you? I can happen although rare as hell.
-
Adding a top alone will add strength back a body made from multiple pieces of wood adding a back also would probably make the body stronger than a single slab of wood, basic engineering init.
There isn't an issue. Pete simply asked what it's worth because we'll never know due to it not being an auction listing. I explained what I think I would pay but that its hard to know what the item's 'value' is when we'll never see what it sells for...
Thats it, as im not up on fender prices I was just interested as to what people here think its actually worth, maybe it will turn into an auction eventually and we will see?
-
It's essentially just a CS version of a US Deluxe Precision. I quite like it but it's only worth the money that the winning bid pays!
it's not an auction listing though so we will never know, thats if it ever sells.
-
If it was listed as ordered like that I wouldn't have known would you? Someone obviously just likes a pj and happy to have it done, there will be other people that like it but whats it worth?
-
I presume getting posting rights removed is for posting personal insults? For all my trolling ,self oppinianted, chip on my shoulder, slingnay, last word harry antics I haven't had a ban because I haven't called anyone a name I have never asked a mod to block anyone or have a word with them as I am plenty big and ugly enough to not give a hoot. Anyway what was is thread about again oh yes P J custom shop, I really dont mind the extra pickup, the 3 piece body is not to MY preference so it is mainly the price thats an issue? If someone wants a top notch P bass but with the J pickup is it so bad? They get all the nice bits of the CS plus the J option neatly done, what would it cost to spec one the same new?

SlingrayPete, I like that
I don't think there's anything structurally or sonically wrong with a three-piece body as long as you can't see it! Plywood. Now that's a LOT of pieces... yet some of the most expensive high-end basses are made from laminates.
I dont mind seeing it, in fact if it was rear routed without a pickguard I think it would look better, maybe even quite cool? The way it pokes out from behind the pg here and there doesnt look like an expensive bass to my eyes, that body should have gone in the solid black batch imo.
-
Basses made of many pieces length ways make up for strength and tone via the thru neck construction, for me it needs to be one or the other. Yes I said for me imo ime etcetcetc
-
Well its rarer, a one off
-
One day there might only be me and you left talking to each other Discreet, lol
I wouldn't say that the ash/alder three piece body is indicative of poor quality, it's just a rather eccentric design decision. If I was ordering one, I wouldn't go for that, but then it's not my bass.
Two pieces I can live with but in one thread we are talking tone woods and here is what looks like a neck thru Gibson with different wings attached, I cant see it being good for tone or strength, Nick from nicks guitars plays a Stingray that snapped in half down the joint, he bought it like that and glued it back together.
-
Who said that?.....my quantity of tosses can be counted on one hand these days what people think or say on the net or think of me, people who know me know what I'm really like, probably why I have no friends!
-
Think what you like, I have long since given up trying to please everyone and anyone who knows me knows I have no chip on my shoulder. All I am seeing is you stirring it up, the posts in the other thread were about high end Fenders and their construction, this one is a high end Fender that is below par IMO hence the relation of the threads. In fact the other thread was not even about Fenders it just got trolled and trashed by Fender fans as the bass in the OP was Fender shaped. I believe there is a block function? feel free to use it

Yep it's no good for Arco, I'm unlikely to Arco live but it's a good point.
-
I lose interest quite quickly to any twiddle stuff what ever instrument it's played on, if a player is sitting with a single cut through neck seven string bass in a you tube link I rarely open it
-
That's what I do yes, if I didn't have the Fishman already in an attempt to control the various piezos I would run it straight in like AP bass but I have found setting it roughly to the Fishman recommended pizz settings in the little book make it sound really nice and super thumpy, I just leave my amp totally flat and a Genz shuttle flat is about as flat and clear as any amp out there. Piezos meh

Well most people at the bash tried my bass with just the mag connected via a Fishman into the Genz amp, general consensus was that it sounded like a double bass, once in a loud band mix I think only upright players would notice and as long it sounded good would they care? I have now decided I'm going mag only and took off my Bass max, for what it adds the complexity of blending them is out weighed for me personally. Long live the mag pickup

Another black black and maple, classic no nonsense bass
-
Well he said I pissed him off but "never again" so either I am blocked or he is going to bump me off The reason I bought it up was because it is related due to the 3 piece body, the bass in the picture has one hence the association, I thought that was quite clear, maybe not?

Cant beat a last minute gig watching a band you weren't too bothered about only for it to be awesome, bit like when the support band turns out better than the band you paid to see, nice one -
That bothers me far more than any of the modifications. Plus the fact that the body has been made out of 3 pieces of wood.
I ended up on Karlfers hit list for suggesting things like my single piece slab ash body on my musicman classic or in that case a Lakland being better than Fenders like this, he said that im a knob for not adding a IMO, who would prefer that 3 piece body for tone or visual reasons? As for modding it its nothing that special is it? I have a john east pre in my ClassicRay, I guess some people would have winced as I unsoldered the factory wires on a £2200 bass but its my bass
