1.
My band The Disco Prophets have best ever gig we've had for NYE at the best bar/club/venue in Nottingham; it's a v high quality conversion of a beautiful old church. Capacity 650 and manager has made it free entry, as give back to punters (or clever marketing). We are getting extremely well paid; but above all it should be a great party and we're all looking forward to it. The two 1 hour sets will have people dancing all night too. It's disco and funk classics from late 70s to present day. Last song of night is Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars!
I have been in there I think on a stag doo, glass partitions and mood lighting etc all in an old church, raised up wooden areas? Have a good un
2. Marquee in the pub car park in the centre of town for me, same place they hold the beer festival in the summer but it is in a smaller tent and we are the only band on using our own PA etc. We go on at 10pm probably 12 songs first set, short break and 12 more songs should take us over the chimes. I have then got a gig with my other band on Saturday and a wedding gig on Monday night with normal work in between on Friday this week and Monday morning...tired thinking about it. Pics to follow Blue....
3.
Ive found the dj5 and sandberg tt5 much better than a fender usa jazz 5.in my opinion I didnt like the fender b string

Have you tried a Fender V with graphite truss rod? Far superior to the previous versions.
I thought the same then bought a new version USA JazzV and the B is great, I'm very happy with mine especially as I'd come across very few good ones when trying previously over the last ten years, 2008 onwards I believe is where the improved?
4. Well we do white wedding too but I didnt put it down the first time.
5. You might if it was a GT40 kit car? Or even just one inspired by ford or with some ford parts. I think thats fine for a private individual , building many Ford Focus replicas as a business and putting Ford badges on those however I think is wrong
6.
Out of the 20 of us who've contributed so far only 7 play Dakota. That's about 30%. We play less than 20% of the songs listed there. And Mustang Sally, the one song every says every band plays isn't even on the list. I'm wondering how true it is that "Every band plays the same old songs." It certainly isn't true here.
We play mustang sally but the list from each member doesnt include everything, to do it properly everyone needs to put their full set list for analysis.
7. Thanks for that sirmuppet, every day is a school day
8. First thing you need to do is not fit the Ceramic pickup if you want a proper old school Stingray tone, only mid 90s to late 2007 Stingray 5s used ceramic pickups, they sound great I love mine in my oldest SR5 but its not what you want to get what you want, stick with Alnico for the pickup, the East preamps are great, I have the 2 knob 2 EQ version but I would have gone for the sweepable mid one like mcnach other than I wanted to keep it sort of standard as its in my Classic5 bass and the reason I bought it was as a 5 string version of a pre EB Ray which are still my favourite basses, they just lack a string for me The Stinger ones off ebay are meant to be very good and give a proper Ray sound for not a lot of cash either.
9.
Don't buy MK ones; they sound Dire!
Very good sir ,well done!
10. Im not sure many basses will reach the dizzy values that guitars can reach anyway, for the most part us bassists are not so well known? (insert arguement about Macca fidle bass and the original being stolen anyway and repeat)
11. I use a mag pickup and a 900watt amp plus pa support, its louder than any 3/4 unamplified!
12. Rickenbacker?
13. I never knew that about Slash?! I know some artists are endorsed by other brands so try not to be seen promoting another brand, Stuart Zender on the Mark Ronson tour for example. I wont be removing my lovely (and genuine ) USA 'spaghetti' Logo
14.
Funnily enough, I often get asked about my basses..
Fender copies Most people in the audience would presume my Jazz to be more valuable than my Classic5 with an rrp nearly a grand more because they have heard of Fender, would your average punter know of Musicman?
15.
American Deluxe would be my starting point..
As you know from my old 5 string jazz thread I had a relatively open cheque book but went for the usa standard over a choice of two deluxes, the preamp to me was just a bit meh, drop a john east in mine and it would be much better than the deluxe imo, I still got a trans urethane finish rather than poly, 4 ply pickguard, graphite truss reinforcement rods etc and I ended up with a deluxe case thrown in as pmt had sold mine! I could enjoy the OPs Squier no problem, I dont think you can choose a level like "deluxe as a starting point" with Fender but rather choose one thats good which could have any price tag on it!
16.
I have a straight on one end then a right angle on the other, that covers all the angles
This is what I've got, angled in my jazz, 3 eq side mounted stingrays or front mounted 2 eq stingray but my EUB has a strat socket and the cable hangs down into the strings on my double bass with an angled one so they both need straight ones.
17. You can't fit an angled jack in a 'strat' style recessed socket, my eub only takes straight for example.
18. Tbh I'd clean it then just 1200 grit wet and dry, no stickyness and can be reversed to full gloss easily later. Damp cloth and a tooth pick for the fingerboard maybe.
19.
Sounds like you need to get to the shop
No point now, you've got it!
20. Ha you havent heard us murder them, they dont end up as close as described, lol.
21. It needs to be clean to sound mean!
22. Me likey a lot! I much prefer the tuners 4 and 1 too compared to 5 in a row Fender 5s, I like maple, I like blocks,I like jazz basses, I like oly white, I like 5 strings,I like black pickguards and I like chromes knobs....so it was in for a chance of me liking it! Lol
23.
This one will soon me mine, bought from bobglaub01 here on BC: Is it blue or is it blue...?
That's proper nice!
24. I was REALLY close to buying the DJ5 over the Fender am std when I bought mine but the Fender is really good and I always said I would grab a usa fender 5 if it was good after playing quite a few rubbish ones!
25. I've just bought my first fully passive bass in a long time too, I'm getting used to it and resisting the option of fitting a preamp. I wish I could get used to P basses, I'll bet the low B sounds great with the tone rolled off on the P pickup if you find the right song for it. My ears are very tuned in to active basses though are yours?
