I try to be the same online as I am in real life, a total w***er, I'm achieving my goal quite well so far
-
That just leaves the HS Stingray then the Lakland is of course an inch longer scale too so the so called sweet spot would be slightly out no matter where you put it.
I also remember reading an interview where he was asked what bass he played, and in a rhetorical gesture shrugged and asked the tech, who informed him that it was a Stingray. He went on to state that to a bassist, the choice of bass was no more important than the choice of pen is to an author. I was a bit outraged at this at the time, but am coming round to that viewpoint more and more.
Part of their image was to be too cool for school, at the same time Damon Allbran was collecting antique harpsichords and stuff so I'd take that with a pinch of salt, on the other hand I think he sounds the same to some extent on any bass, Jazz bass in the very early clips, P bass, Stingray and he even sounds the same in some clips with him on electric upright bass! Its that plucky right hand technique imo, works just right for the band.
Looking at the Sandberg and the 'ray in you profile picture, it looks like the Sandberg MM is closer to the bridge isn't it?
I think most (all but the legendary Pingray) have the P in the P spot and then move the MM back, I guess that makes it lose a bit of the Ray bottom end power? Other basses with the MM in the right place have the P nearer the neck which I presume goes against what P lover love about the P, worst of both worlds IMO, I was hugely underwhelmed by the Sandberg's version off a Stingray even though it was a nice bass in everyway. MM in the right place with a single coil in the neck position surely equals either a HS Stingray or a Lakland 55-02, 55-14, 55-94 depending on pocket depth!

I heard Stereotypes on the radio the other day and thought how it was weird that he does not get much of mention on here? Being Basschat its only a matter of time before the debate starts, Lol

I never see much love for Alex James on this site, maybe we should correct that? He does appear to take more drugs when he uses a Stingray for some reason but lets gloss over that Anyone else a fan?

The P has to be 'flipped' the wrong way to get the MM in the sweet spot doesnt it?

Using a music stand in a covers band
I'm definitely going to do that at our next gig. A black folder with an art magazine. Just in view of the drummer. Can't wait to see his face when we start the first number and I open the folder. Closely followed by the rest of the band when they wonder why he has fallen off his stool. .
"Chicks with Sticks" drumming nudey girls magazine should do the trick! -

Using a music stand in a covers band
I gave up using stands after too many gigs with stage lighting that made it impossible to read the chart. I tried various lights but found it just easier to learn the tunes than carry around a stand, a light, a folder. And then when the band leader decided to produce a different setlist on arrival at the gig; half an hour rearranging the order of my music.
I cant sight read or read a chart quick enough for most songs but I am thinking of buying an open framed stand and a copy of something like "expert notation for talented musicians in 5/8 and 3/4" to put on the stand, but with "Jugs Weekly" hidden inside -
Next gig I do where the singer wants to use a few cheat sheets, I will inform them of my cunning plan Hide the stand and bring it out after the first number, that way people will be fooled and not walk out upon seeing the stand How cunning is that eh ?
I like it and if you see someone get up just as you bring it out you could shout "Oi mate are you leaving here to go to the snot and faggot up the road?" If they say yes you could say "could you take this music stand up to the band on up there for me they left it here last week?". That would leave them snookered, will you produce another stand after he leaves making the leaving the right choice anyway or is that the only stand and he is going to miss a great band, does the other band need the stand, surely if they managed to set up without it they are good enough to not need it?, maybe it could be the night that the other band breaks free of the stand? tricky tricky situation -
Using a music stand in a covers band

I wonder if anyone has been so forgetful that they have bought half their gear into a pub then gone to get the rest only to return and see a music stand and thought "oh eck a band with music stands I'm off" not realising it's their gig? -
I thought this was going to be thread about the NHS...
You have it all wrong, they are not selling it, just that it will belong to other people after the transactions and the torys keep the proceeds. Nothing like a sale see
-
Not if someone else buys it off me, I've listed for £2900 in the for sale section with some gaffer tape over the serial number, I'm practically giving it away as it was last advertised for £3500 on here! Lol

I really like my Stagg bass, I've sheilded the cavity and fitted proper strings that cost half as much as the stagg did but its great now, does it sound like a DB? Not so much, does it sound bigger and thumpier than the thumpiest of thumpy electric basses, hell yeah! The audience really like it and it feels and plays fairly similar to the DB, much more than an electric bass thats for sure. Shame your so far away or you could have borrowed mine to try it
That's Merello's. But before that (Crazy)Kiwi used to use it. Now that used to confuse the hell out of me! I'd always assumed it was something off B3ta.
I told you I was crap with names, I was close though, lol

How on earth do you play in a Ska / Reggae style?
stingrayPete1977 replied to chriswareham's topic in General Discussion
Muted pick with all the tone rolled off works well, sort of clicky motion with the tip of the pick but I'm not that advanced to pull it off so fingers or even just thumb and fore finger for me. -
I'm sure hes nicked the profile pic too, isnt that Merton's? I am terrible with names, I only know you all by the picture!
Dodgy Tw*t I would be very wary of this then.................. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250646-old-german-bass/page__pid__2621698#entry2621698
Crikey, I agree. Should a mod be looking at this then? We know the sale price was £2000 less than the asking price which is just bad form but not against rules, listing items you dont own is so id suggest a nuking of the account in 5...4....3......2.....

I started a similar thread a while ago, I'm still miles off but the "less is more" approach is the bit of advice gained that I've really clung too, if you get the feel right the size of the gaps you can leave is amazing, it's as if the listeners brains fill in the gaps somehow. -
Crazy!
