Strange courier collection arrangement, advise sought
Why not meet the guy at your bank, go in with him and pay he notes in over the counter while he's with you ?
This would be my choice or meet the guy and get him to ring his mate once he is happy with the bass then ask for an instant transfer where you can login and check? -
Well the bass arrived yesterday and what a piece of kit it is, especially for £218. I had a plonk on it, (I have never tried one before), and realised my technique is all wrong. I am trying to play it like a bass guitar. I have lowered the bridge and sorted the endpin rattle and have been looking at a few youtube lessons for tips. My left arm is now aching from holding it up. Since retiring a few years ago I have lost my arm strength through doing F' all so will have to eat more Shredded Wheat. Anyway I am quite pleased with my purchase and with a couple of hours a day practice I hope to get better at it. It is not suitable for anything I play in my band but I do a jam night and am looking to be using it in that. Oh yes, where can I find the tab for Moondance....
Geoff's discover double bass is your first port of call IMO to get you started, the arms will start to ache less after a few weeks but even after a couple of years now I struggle for more than 30 mins maybe. I was doing the guitar thing too and it can be done, there are no rules but the so call correct DB technique will be much easier long term. The odd lesson here and there is well worth it IMO if you can find someone, I come on loads after each lesson then when I start to get stale and feel in a rut I book another, in fact I am going to send a message to see if I can get one in the next few weeks while I think about it! Good luck and enjoy

Last bit of advice is that I just noticed the OP has the same trouble with licence/license but I do not have the right to advise him on such matters with only a D at GCSE level -
I'm not sure about photocopying docs, i wouldn't let you copy mine cos of identity fraud.
Exactly. there is probably a Polish guy on PolskiBassChat asking if a seller in the UK wanting his driving licence and passport to copy is normal especially given he will be handing over the cash in person! I would never give anyone those documents for a bass sale or purchase unless it was for getting finance or something, what are you even going to do with them if the money is fake, what does a legit Polish driving licence look like? (I dont even know how to spell licence or license!) -

I've done deals on here but I wouldn't be giving a photocopy of my driving licence or passport to any of you! -
Double bass, heated marquee and cold weather?
stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Yes it was fine, the heaters ran out of gas early on which probably did me a favour, there is a picture in the db porn thread, thanks for asking -
I can believe that mate, I never did a try bass through it, did you?
When it comes to acrylic instruments, this has to be the best thread on the net... grab a cuppa. For someone who doesn't like pedals etc...
stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
Little update- I have fitted velcro to all my pedals etc so they will sit on top without falling off like the DI box did during a gig a few weeks ago and killed the sound as it pulled the leads from the FX loop! Black lead for double bass which routes via the Fishman EQ and the AB switch, needs FET channel on the amp selecting and mixing to suit. Green lead for electric basses into the AB switch, FET channel for Stingray with onboard EQ set to suit, engage valve channel and that brings in the Behringer BDI21 via the FX loop only on valve channel, for unlimate full on take the roof off hit valve channel with the Stingray so it goes via the BDI and the valve Got a wedding gig later today (I know, a monday?) to try it all out.... Delays in receiving items shipped from Thoman
stingrayPete1977 replied to afterimage's topic in General Discussion
You get constant updates of exactly where it is all the way until its lands in the UK then it becomes a lucky dip, also I have never known a company as good as Thomann for packaging , what did they do wrong? -
I decided to get my Stingray neck lacquered
stingrayPete1977 replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
Good work Jose, I bet it will come out nice, I'm not sure what the Classic neck finish is but it's not sticky like some, that said I dont notice my Jazz being too bad either. My normal Rays are filthy! -
Perfectly preserved Fender Bass history
stingrayPete1977 replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
Calling Rick's fine 52..... Does nowt for me personally. GLWTS -
Lol, the harp player at a jam I used to frequent used a large tweed covered bassman combo, it was the biggest amp on the stage, bloody racket!
-
Manufactured from lead?
Having played a 15lb 70s Fender that would be about right! Someone in the porn section has one over 18lbs, 18lbs!!!!
-
Even at 259 for a regular one it would be a steal, a deluxe for 218, brilliant!
-
The traditional Fender bass amps do nothing for me, even as kid I remeber seeing stuff like that in the second hand shop, or junk shop! Lol
-
The funny thing is I would buy a Fender amp if I knew it was just a rebranded shuttle, once a few had been sold to forum members and we had looked inside they could well have been doing alright with them, then again £250 million in debt or whatever it is would need a few units shifting!
-
Bargain of the year and the year has only just got started! £218 crazy
-
Were Genz amps in any form of competition with anything Fender made? I think more likely they wanted some of 2) but either dropped a bollock and did not pull it off as planned or ran out of cash to implement it properly with the new rumble not being a match for the old Genz, a simple redesign of the facia was all that was needed to keep the Shuttle and the Streamliner models on the shelf but with a Fender logo on it.
