1. By the rules of Basschat someone will be along to tell you they use their Ritter for digging the garden or shovelling snow off the paths once a year as their Squier is far superior Cost is all relative anyway and it depends if a few dings bother you , I would own and use one as I dont care about resale values, I have never bought a bass with selling it in mind and never made any money on one, my jazz has more marks since I bought it in November than EBS Freak has on all his gear including cabs he has owned for years!
2. Excellent as ever Geoff, I loved the walking in thumb position around 14.30, brilliant! OK I am off to practice, I promise
3. What speakers are you going to use? If I was starting again now I would keep my Mackie proFX12 desk but I would get a pair of powered cabs instead of the passive Mackies and power amp I have, I like that the desk gets put safe in its gig bag under the bed, pair of covers for the cabs and they can be left in the garage, 3 items and a pair of stands and hey presto, a really loud pa
4. The old council house fridge door finish.....
5. I wish I had grabbed a powder blue 5 at the time but I like my Tobacco which is quite rare I presume, how long did it last? and as we worked out mine is one of the very first 5s in the UK by the looks of it ( I forget march or may 2010 I think?), I could do with getting the original preamp checked as I pulled it for a John East as it felt a bit naff to me, any idea who could inspect it and let me know if it is normal or needs repairing DrT?
6. The sub looks pretty good now anyway!
7. Even as a Fender user and liker I cant defend their business model, how much is their debt now? I really think only USA models should carry the Fender logo, clamp down on the QC even more although the new stuff appears fairly good, Squier for all the lower models and maybe Affinity by Squier or something for the entry level stuff?
8. Best tweet him again dieseldalziel as our official contact and ask what bass he used!
9. Doh! I didn't know I promise
10. The natural and the black are still in the lineup, probably the only ones that have been available from the start. Ive just noticed they have dropped the wording single piece from the body wood specs and the natural one in the photo does have a join up the middle, which my pre EB did to be fair but it looks like single piece bodies are getting rare?
11. Just had a look to see what colours they are doing now, vintage burst is the closest to mine now, the red is nice like you say and comes with black pickup and pick guards now or do you mean the old coral red? I liked the pastel range but they have all finished by the looks of it?
12. I'm not so keen on the sledge finish, mine is tobacco which they only did for a while I think? Is it called retroburst or something now but more sunburst-esque?
13.
I'm curious as to why they are "clueless"
Have you looked at the links?
14. Also you might have something where you are playing causing the hum, stereo amplifier or a fluorescent light fitting, anything with copper windings really?
15. Seymour duncans, bare knuckle, maybe some used Fender USA ones off ebay or even in the for sale here?
16. The bad earth on many basses is often from the wire either being pushed into the wood or what looks like sinking into the finish as if it was bolted together before the paint was dry! Slacken the strings and unscrew the bridge, pick the earth wire out from the body, clean it up and the rear of the bridge plate then move it to a new place and screw the bridge back on. Check the other end at the jack socket and the general condition of the soldering etc, if its all good welcome to the hissy single coil pickup club, putting both pickups on full normally stops it, or buy a Stingray with a humbucker I like bartolini pickups but they work best with active basses ime, I cant help with the wilkinsons, sorry.
17. Looks like a Sandberg to me?
18. I'm a big fan of black stingrays but I think it would be a shame to cover up that lovely single piece of ash slab body when many high end basses are made of 2 or 3 lumps? That said I like the powder blue!
19. When I sold my knacker Ashdown rig and bought my first Genz Benz rig, a 2x12T and a Shuttle 6.0 head I could not understand what I was wrong with it, then it dawned, it was me! Playing with that much clarity made any slightly bad timing stick out like a sore thumb! I am still a sh*t player but at least I found out what it was
20.
Streamers..two 4-strings & a 5 in this vid.. https://www.youtube....h?v=SELnJ3nMS5k
Very cool, go on who wants a laser printer thing now?
21.
That looks great!! I say leave the neck as is. The black against the natural looks good.
I agree, do that
22. Looks great, why we had to wait and pay for the Classic5 to get a normal Stingray 5 I will never know! You could get a EBMM logo once you have stripped it but then what Logo would you fit as its neither a Classic5 or an SR5, maybe just put the Ernie Ball musicman section of a logo on and seal it all up? or maybe try and get a SUB logo again?
23. Haha it is good fun though! I have said it before but the Stagg neck is good IMO for anyone wanting a DB later/as well, it is a bit smaller than my DB neck but it gets you in the ball park and if you can get the finger spacing on the stagg you will be able to play a DB other than most DBs have no fret (stop) markers at all! If anything I play elec bass with a 3 fingers DB technique now rather than the other way around, its easier to fudge over the frets on elec bass than try and play finger per fret on the DB.
24.
is that the new Fender for 2015.? kidding of course.
Done properly I think I would prefer this to the "firewood" Jazz!
