1.
Unless you really must have a new one is be tempted to look for a good quality used one. MM values plummet like crazy from new and you should be able to save at least 40%!
Although I agree normally a Sterling HS isn't as common as other musicman basses so finding used ones won't be so easy.
2. One of these would have been my next choice, the only thing similar design wise looks to be the TKS stuff so a lottery win would bring a pair of 1x12s from them now just for ease instead of my 2x12 or 1x12 I have now. I love them EAD handles though
3. If other bands were asking about the car you drive I'd never get a gig again!
4. What's the best car for metal?
5. It's only a matter of time before we get into finger style and rear routing at this rate!
6. I've met quite a few more than 10...and I think you're right!
7. All matching drivers would be ok but a risk of it sounding bad, mixing the drivers in the same box could result in a crap sound and/or two of the four drivers being blown. I'm not sure a pair of modern 2x12s would be a "move down" from a Hartke 410/ampeg410 rig either?
8. If the better quality drivers hide the sound of the lesser ones crapping out you will end up with a 2x10 in a big box imo? Specs are one thing but it could be the 100 watt ones that cope better than the 125s!
9. Most people wouldn't know if you told them it was a custom built PJ you had made just for you at a cost of £1500!
10. I'd look down more on a Precision
11. You need to give us a clue as to which one now JT, lol
12. I was using the term bass players and we loosley, I dont think many actual bass players would be arsed and by we I meant not me, I love a thick Poly finish
13. Everyone is different, some people join a band within weeks others never get there, most will go from day one to a fairly simple blues covers type band within 6 months to a year as a guess? The wanting to get better never really ends and there is more than a single life times worth of learning out there so be prepared for never ending searching for nailing something new! I have been playing nearly 30 years starting in acoustic guitar lessons at primary school, I have a lesson booked in for next Sunday! Enjoy it, start going to a few jam nights and meeting people, you will be amazed how much a goal focuses the mind and practicing time, even if you dont get up and play for a year from now you can start learning a few numbers your local jam night does then turn up one week and ask to play three numbers from the list you have got or even ask if you could just join in on mustang sally or whatever, as a house bassist I would be more than happy to let you do one song then me jump on for the next two for example. The only problem I can see and it is not really a problem anyway is that I wish I had nailed scales, theory, reading etc etc first but like most I just wanted to get out there and gig, now years later I am having to do it backwards to understand what I have been doing all these years! That is just me though, I know some people say they are happy with what they do, no intenetion now of doing anything else and no need no learn any new skills to be busy out there playing for example. Dont worry about messy playing, it just takes more time and practice and like I said once you tidy up one aspect of your playing you will find the next thing wrong or you will want to learn slap or use a pick or use fingers or buy a fretless, it is never ending but it is good fun
14. When you think as bass players we are concerned about how thick the paint is regarding amplified tone of it in a live mix it is amazing any of us have ever seen a naked lady never mind actually touching a real one possibly even in a rude place!
15. Anyone doing a lot of dark pit work will appreciate side leds too IMO.
16. Is this the seller?
17. Well the strings are on their way, woosh!
18. I always like ebmm strings on an ebmm to be honest, I use them on my other basses anyway failing that I'll use anything that is free! I used elites four many years and still like them now as a cheaper option sometimes. Enjoy the new bass mate
19.
I did know that. But what's with the cleaning thing?
I prefer the DK Marlowe "shlappa dah shiit out of them" technique!
20. I was just making the point that the 5 has the same options as the Sterling, even a ceramic pickup the same if you choose the right year, so not way more options. Classic5 is tasty if you like 4 string Rays but enjoy a B string though
21. I have a mag pickup on my double bass and no matter what the 'experts' tell us about mag pickups making it sound like a big P bass it just doesn't, OK it is not going to sound like a mic'd DB but the scale length, body chamber and all that wood makes it sound nowt like a P bass! I always think what a 50s hollow electric guitar sounds like compared to a solid Les Paul even if you fit the same pickups in the same spot etc the hollow one sounds nothing like a solid one does it? So on a smaller scale (excuse the pun) all these thing will alter the tone of a bass or guitar or even a DB when amplified. It has been said that a length of wood with a MM humbucker in the sweet spot with strings wrapped over it at 34" scale and the MM preamp inline sounds 100% Stingray, I might just try it one day and see
22. Loving the Taxi theme and graphics, awesome
23.
I just picked up a Sterling H at the weekend. It's a superb bass. The pickup switch is pure magic. Way more options than a ray. It's the lightest bass ive owned and it is a joy to play. Good look with the gas ;-)
Not if you play a 5 string one
24. Not when I'm holding it! Me krinkle video Sarah, bonkers or what?!
