D. Lakin Basses BG on the way home...
stingrayPete1977 replied to bassmayhem's topic in Bass Guitars
What's wrong with the headstock? Probably it is lighter and reduces neck dive.. Just guessing Love the hard case!
I think he ran out of ideas now Lakland have his already stolen from Musicman one! I dont mind it, wouldn't stop me buying one same goes for the Alleva 'paddle', sometimes they look much better in the flesh? -
The guy I traded my SR4 with what is now my SR5 had all his gear stolen, turned up at crack converters Sheffield, he had a thread on here at the time, proved it was his to the police as he knew the song titles he had stored in the multi fx before they plugged it in. The seller to the store was well known by the shop and the old bill.

You and your Rugby! Is this from your previous escapades or have you mashed it again? Mine is/was plated and pinned it's not turned out too well but I can play still, well in a fashion but that's not all the injurys fault That's a great setup there, nothing came up like this when I was looking, Nick is a top fella to deal with and well known around here for anyone looking that is new to the site, GLWTS

I'm looking forward to listening to this when I've got some proper speakers hooked up

Ultimately that is the real test, I've played a few super jazz basses and felt a bit meh, I've played a few that were wow, same goes for the more run of the mill fender lakland etc and found some great and others less so. Report back

Good luck Tony and how's the mg coming along these days? -
It's a bit of a shock switching between my US Jazz V and any of my Ray5s, as I was used to the more cramped Rays first the wide Jazz can feel a bit of a stretch for trickier stuff, the Jazz is a bit of a plank though!

I Played An Ashdown Combo - And Liked It!
stingrayPete1977 replied to discreet's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had a full blown ABM and extension cab for years and you know what, the cheaper Ashdowns sound better IMO, The Gate in Sutton use one as the house amp and it sounds great, that said a mate of mine and EBS_Freak had one that really did set on fire so for all the nay sayers we have based our propaganda on an actual event. -

Just had a text "can we look at Billy Jean instead of Beat it for obvious reasons!" lol -
There is some food for thought and pics in this thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/247748-five-string-jazz-basses-talk-to-me-now-a-nbd-thread/page__fromsearch__1

I skirted around all the 5 string Jazz basses last year then ended up with an actual Fender 5 string USA Standard Jazz! it turned out to be the best of the bunch on the day and is built really well, tight B string the lot and this is from a die hard EBMM Ray 5 player so don't write off a passive Fender 5 Jazz just yet, a lot if not most of the opinion here and on the net is based on the pre 2008 and pre 2012 updated Fender 5s which I agree with most folks in that I have never tried a good one but stay this side of 2012 and you might bag a belter?! The Sandberg left me cold and the MM pickups dont do it for me at all in them on those models The Lakland was ok but had a pinched wire under the plate and just felt cheaper than the US Fender (How about that, I even took pics to prove!) The Fender Deluxe preamp was a bit poop IMO so I would rather fit a preamp to a US stnadard at a later date really. Xotic Jazz5 is probably the best 5 I have played ever and sorry to JTUK that includes SEIs, Alleva, Sadowsky etc so I would try one but that will eat some of your amp budget? Happy shopping

3 years, 4 bands, 10 gigs. What now?
stingrayPete1977 replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Thank you. That's the sort of thoughtful, considered advice I was asking for. For me, this has been a difficult period. I'm the band organiser - I'm getting emails from the rest of the band asking what's happening with our AWOL singer, understandably. I'm trying to balance being sympathetic towards her against the desires of everybody else to push on and find a replacement. I'm also asking myself some questions about whether I can be bothered to do this any more. Another 30 minutes-worth of emails from drummer, guitarist and keys player tonight to deal with. Ok - maybe I'm being a bit too intense about all this, but I do try to respect bandmates' concerns and do what I can to keep a happy ship. Maybe I'm naïve. Maybe it's time for me to change direction, simply concentrate on playing bass and leave band management to somebody else. I genuinely asked Basschat members for some help, and I thank those who have been kind enough to offer advice. Right here, right now, that's what I need. There's a time and a place for everything and, right now, for all the above reasons, I'm not feeling especially jolly or devil-may-care. Just saying. Steve
In the last few years I've tried to become less friendly with band members in bands that are at least out there to earn something, the jam nights and little trio thing are more for fun with a few quid now and again, trying to keep a happy ship etc I now stay out of if I can,I get messages saying "the singer is too busy with her family to learn new songs" cool lets get another one then rather than organising her life like we have in the past. Even though it's for fun keeping it business like to some extent seams to work better, turn up rehearse or play the gig, have a beer and a chat, go home, text dates and repeat. -
Not that lucky. Remember that band you were in one time with a lady singer who had - er- stubble that you used to wonder about and you got the hump in rehearsal when she asked you to simplify your lines a bit and there was a big shouting match between the two of you and halfway through you realised that you had a half-lob and it all ended up in a hotel room and when she whipped 'em off you realised 'she' was a 'he' but it didn't matter anyway by that stage. Well, that was xilldx. I've never been in a band with you.
I thought those arms in the no tattoos thread looked familiar, just threw me a bit without the black satin cocktail dress in shot! -
A common denominator between all the bands I've been in is me. As it presumably is for anyone who's been in more than one band.
I've been in quite a few bands but you weren't in any of them (afaik?), maybe I've just been lucky, lol -

Well we will see at the next practice how his sweep picking is coming along! When I say he is not a shredder he can play lead breaks but there are lead breaks and there are van Halen lead breaks. -
I'm sure you'll be fine! But are the rest of your band up to it??
We have a tidy drummer that can handle lead vox but he wants to sing less hence the new front person, she can belt them out no messing, Low down rock, show tunes, through to Christina Aguilera stuff etc no probs! Guitarist is good but not a shredder and just myself, that's where the rot begins -
Got a chart for Beat it if you want ?
I'm ok at blagging that one actually and we normally keep arrangements fairly simple, thanks though, now I'm not sure about our guitarist nailing the EVH solo! -
Also I load mine in with the handle pointing up and the knobs facing the inner sleeve that the footswitch fits in.
And that is pretty much how I get back out of a go kart

So our new young female singer has suggested a few songs to put in the set along with the ones of ours she is learning, she must have an ear for bass! So far my homework has involved learning covers played by; Tony Levin-Joan Armatrading drop the pilot (I have never heard it covered tbf) Steve Lukather- (bass on MJ Beat It) Louis Johnson- MJ Billy Jean Stuart Zender - Jamiroquai love Foolosophy Nate Watts- Stevie Wonder Master Blaster Out of five songs she has picked 4 of the worlds top players and a top guitarist playing bass! I think there will be some Pino and Sklar along all in good time, hey I need something to learn tomorrow night anyway, Lol

Peavey - is there something wrong with the company?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Jenny_Innie's topic in General Discussion
I loved my TNT, I still miss it's tone but not it's weight or lack of volume compared to something like my Genz shuttlemax9.2, I never found much volume from the later heads either 700 watts and a pair of 4x10s should be epic but I felt underwhelmed tbh. One of my bands has an early 90s Peavey PA and it's really good still, it has a service and a pat test and it's perfect for your average pub gig or marquee wedding.
