Good luck I've got something similar myself on Saturday, lots of little rooms all on different levels, what will be will be.

I quite fancy just depping and or reading charts for every gig for any songs I don't know or can't blag my way through, let other people sort everything else out, turn up with a stingray and some wireless in ears ten minutes before cutain up

I meant free time to practice before you even get to gig stage, many bands here don't get beyond the practice room, I've been in some of them! I'd rather slip into an existing band or be involved at the start but with a group of known players/singers rather than hunting them out.

Being in a trio is useful sometimes, we can take the low paying but good crowd gigs, one place pays £150, there's normally about 20-30 people in the bar area and the same again watching the band, it's all open plan so you are playing to around 50 people but they like their live bands, it's a happy medium. That said I wouldn't be able to get my other four piece wedding/function/pub band on there at that price so that band only does (half) decent paying gigs, some packed and some empty. I have in the past done the empty venue but for the £30,not any more thanks!

I can see where blue is coming from here, I've been in these bands where the guitarist "can't do weekdays except Thursday,and only for an hour before 9pm but after 6.30pm, nor weekends, or mornings or evenings" etc, my brain goes straight to- even if we get gig ready will anywhere want a band for an hour starting at 7.15 on a Thursday night?

I actually think using the pa is the best way as you can use small amps as backline to keep the volume down, ironically the bigger and better your PA the lower you can get the volume but keep a nice sound, the eq on the pa in most cases will be far better at tweaking out the frequencies that are causing the "bad room".

If you can get the whole band in the pa then it's no different to regular music on the sound system spaced around the pub, of course there's a ten page thread about using anything other than vocals through the pa in a pub, most of those people are playing 30+ year old songs through a 30+ year old pa though, the pa world has moved on a little in recent years

It's business, the "industry' part of the 'music industry', if you're certain the exposure will bring you into the big time it will be money well spent, if.

Thinking about it the saddle positions would alter with string gauge and tension so all but the Lakland might be right?
