1. Also pre-ordered - Thanks for all the demos!
2. Index and ring, or thumb (not slapped) and middle.
3. And again from that gig - Propaganda doing Dr Mabuse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fEDeyWQqoE
4.
As is this from the same gig. And Anne Dudley is the coolest person in the whole world.
For prog fans, and to extend the Trev connection, that's Alan White and Geoff Downes from Yes on drums and keys there.
5. The editorial accuracy of BP has sadly slipped over time. Like the previous poster I've got every issue except a few missing from the very late 80s/early 90s - for the first time I was forced to put virtual pen to paper when at the end of the most recent Flea interview, reference was made to Louie Artmstrong and Billy Holiday Having said that, I'm still a BP buyer (and now subscriber) over the Brit competition.
6. Massive minus points for the thumb over the top of the neck, 2m07s onwards
7. I use either a Roland Micro Cube or more recently a Roland JC-50 combo. Never had any complaints from the neighbours (some from my girlfriend though), but then again it's a solidly built 1930s apartment block.
8. Also what I loved was that even though they've got a stage a mile wide, as soon they can the four of them are gathered around the drum riser checking each other out.
9. Saw the film last night in big mode at the Vue Xtreme at Westfield. Lots of great memories of the gig night, can't wait for the Bluray. Did you see the 10-string Manson in Nobody's Fault but Mine? whoa. Also the fretless P he used for In My Time Of Dying was awesome too.
10. One of my "without whom" gang as well. Relayer is my favourite - especially Gates Of Delirium. A champion of Rickenbackers, but check out this monster, used on Awaken I believe
11. RiffRaff (http://basschat.co.uk/user/27079-riffraff/) bought my JM-4 Looper, see http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185124-for-sale-line-6-jm4-looper-as-new-sold/. Straightforward negotiation and good communciation, and notified of arrival. Good stuff.
12. sold! thanks for looking.
13. Lady came up to me after a first gig with a new band "Hey I really enjoyed your sex moves" I wasn't doing any
14. Tune your A, D, G strings as normal. Then tune the low D so the 5th fret harmonic is the same note as the 12th fret harmonic on your high D string. When you're close, you'll hear the two notes "beating" against each other, and the closer you are the slower the beat frequency. When there's no beats, you're in tune. Simples.
15.
Never. That level of authenticity is for tribute bands not cover bands.
When in tribute land, If anyone said to me "your line wasn't quite right", I'd ask which particular version they were referring to, then direct them to my reference bassline, which exists only on a very rare and practically non-existent bootleg somewhere
16. I've taken off the control plate and scratchplate today to get an idea of the general layout of things in there. First thing I realised is that I don't need to take the scrachplate off :] There's a brass or copper plate underneath each pickup and another in the bottom of the control cavity, this one is screwed down. Can I assume that these are earthed and if I can electrically connect my shielding paint or tape with the brass plate, I'll be going in the right direction?
17. Same again - Procells from eBay. Pay about a tenner for a box of ten.
18. 1m26s. Camera close-up slow zoom on the touch-pad and fingers. He muffs up the timing. Always the way isn't it
19. "Muse perform Madness". Was it Baggy Trousers?
20. Cool. I'll open up the bass and see how it all looks. With the shielding paint, how do you ensure the same kind of electrical connection to earth/ground as described in the method for copper tape above?
21.
Did 3 of my basses with a 4m reel of copper tape for £6. Totally killed the hum and only took about 30 mins per guitar once I'd got the hang of it ;-) http://cgi.ebay.co.u...91#ht_981wt_922
Thanks for tips everyone. This looks like a good idea for a first step: is it just a case of coating the surfaces of internal cavities, or does the tape need to connect electrically with the pickups and controls somehow? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is the most advanced guitar maintenance I've ever considered
22.
Not sure blend control will be any different to two volumes in terms of hum! This is a different thing really, and a fairly common mod to a jazz bass - but not to reduce hum.
Thanks for suggestions so far guys - to clarify, I meant getting the new control setup (blend/vol/tone) as well as new pickups, rather than instead of. The Bass Gallery in Camden is quoting £40 for a screening job, is this a good price?
23. Hi, I'm getting increasingly weary of the hum coming from my pickups on my Jazz bass when playing with the volume controls set to different positions. I'm considering upgrading to new pickups, preferably with master volume/blend/tone rather than front vol/back vol/tone. Any recommendations? Or should I be considering a decent shielding job instead? (again recommendations welcome) Thanks!
24. Yes, got your email thanks. replying now.
25. Get there early, but not too early Be nice and normal, have a laugh Casually have a bag sweets or biscuits to hand for a snack. Offer them around. Get an idea of what they're like to hang out with. Oh and play some kick ass bass. But not too kick ass.
