1.
A sing of the times? http://www.dailymail...e-newcomer.html (Ok, I know its the Daily Mail, who had to mention 2 world wars...)
Haha. That's funny. In a separate conversation I've had about the Bruce/Mac thing, I mentioned that I live next door to a church which has 3 or 4 separate services on a Sunday, and while they don't have bells they have a church organ which we can hear inside. I'm thinking of asking the church to only have services in the week during daytime when everyone's out. Then I can have my peaceful lie-in. Doesn't matter that the church has been there years longer than me! I'm a local resident and object to having my peaceful Sunday lie-ins disturbed. What? join in with the joyful atmosphere and communal spirit? I don't think so.
 2. A response to the situation from Kevin Myers, Deputy Chief Exec of the Health and Safety Executive: http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/record/2012/springsteen160712.htm?eban=rss-putting-the-record-straight "As a longstanding Bruce Springsteen fan and one of the crowd at Hard Rock Calling, I was doubly disappointed to hear Live Nation give 'health and safety' as the reason for cutting short Saturday's gig. The fans deserve the truth: there are no health and safety issues involved here. While public events may have licensing conditions dictating when they should end, this is not health and safety and it is disingenuous of Live Nation to say so." So in answer to my question 'How would letting Bruce and Mac have a "good night and thanks for coming" have reduced safe and ready access to local transport?' - it wouldn't.
 3. Mud, beer, beer, mud. Got it. Thanks!
 4.
Post pics and vids if/when you have them!
We did a warm-up at the 12 Bar a couple of weeks ago. The photos show that my current choice of gig shirt is a big wardrobe fail, severe strap-tug over the left shoulder makes it looks rubbish. Need to update the gig threads.
 5. I'm playing my first festival gig this week, at Secret Garden Party. Equally exciting and nerve-wracking stuff. Festival vets - Any tips? Plug: the band is The Penny Black Remedy, check out spotify and general googling for material. Their previous bassist left April/May time and they asked me to step in to help cover upcoming commitments. One is SGP, the other is Bestival. Hurray/yikes! Thanks!
 6. I hear Bruce's late start was due to John Fogerty over-running. Report in from a colleague who was there for Sunday's show: everyone was going on early, and he turned up at the advertised time to hear his favourite band just starting their last song. Hey ho.
 7. Even Boris Johnson criticised the switch-off, I think: "It sounds to me like an excessively efficacious decision. You won't get that during the Olympics. If they'd have called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!”
 8.
Having been involved in drafting use agreements for major concert venues, you'll find it has a lot less to do with the so-called local "miserable bastards" residents objections to noise than it has to do with concerns for the safety of attendees and working time regulations, for venue custodial and security personnel. Timings are carefully coordinate with local policing provision, and usually set to allow attendees safe and ready access to local public transport routes and hubs in order to leave the area afterwards. Yes, of course, noise pollution is a consideration, but it is by no means the primary consideration.
How would letting Bruce and Mac have a "good night and thanks for coming" have reduced safe and ready access to local transport? I was at Soundgarden on Friday. As soon as the ligths came up, off I strolled towards Hyde Park Corner and got to Victoria Station 10 minutes later by foot. Simple.
 9. Incidentally I'm seeing Robert Plant at the Forum on Thursday. I wonder...

Anyway it'll be drier than Soundgarden in Hyde Park, which is where I'll be. There's clips on the OTO website at http://www.cafeoto.co.uk/ny-musikk-minibus-pimps-helge-sten-john-paul-jones.shtm
 11. I've hired from Terminal Studios near London Bridge for a party, I collected myself to keep costs down but I'm pretty sure they do a delivery and possibly setup service as well. http://www.terminal.co.uk/hire.htm
 12.
Saw Wilco Johnson last night, his bass player (funny looking, little fella) spent whole set looking at the neck. Quite a tidy player.
If he keeps practicing one day he might get round to writing some memorable, catchy or maybe even jaw-dropping basslines
 13. I've got a spare ticket for Robert Plant at the Forum on July 12, performing with his new band The Sensational Space Shifters: joining the former Led Zeppelin frontman is Band of Joy cohort Patty Griffin, as well as members of his former backing band, Strange Sensation - guitarist Justin Adams, keyboardist John Baggott and bassist Billy Fuller. Drummer Dave Smith and Juldeh Camara complete the lineup. Ticket face value is £40 plus fees; I'll be happy to take £35 plus postage or I could meet to exchange either on the day or somewhere in central or south/south-west London before then. See the attached clip for footage from the recent Band Of Joy tour.
 14. That took whole 3 minutes for our Japanese friend to appear. Standards are dropping
 15. Just came across this on gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com/p/community/establishing-london-band-the-swaras-seeking-female-bassist/105936514 "we need band members who are flexible in dressing, [have] a small bust and an average to skinny figure, ambitious minded, confident, open-minded to ideas and cooperative" Something about bass-playing somewhere as well. Do you fit the bill better than me?
 16.
> How about full song transcriptions? (preferably without tab) Ouch, expensive. You have to pay the publishers a wedge every time you do this.
That's a shame. It's song transcriptions and other song extracts that have kept me buying the American import magazines over the UK equivalents over the years. Are the publishing arrangements different in America?
 17. How about full song transcriptions? (preferably without tab)

 19. I do it all the time. You can use that muting ring/pinkie finger to pluck the string when moving from E to A, for example. Then plop your ring finger on the D string. Repeat. When your ring finger is strong enough you'll have a nifty three-finger plucking technique thrown in for free as well.
 20. Hi - I've got a Fender AX-5000 Tuner up for grabs, £10 posted in the UK - a lot like this one: This is an internet stock photo, I can supply pics of mine if needed. However it's just seen bedroom use and is in the same condition as the one pictured. Straightforward stuff: LEDs to show pitch and flat/in tune/sharp; built-in mic for acoustic tuning, calibration available for non-concert pitch tuning. I'll put a fresh 9V battery in when I send it. Happy to accept bank transfer or paypal.
 21.
Damn missed this !
It's all repeated sunday night/monday morning, except for the Ziggy film
 22.
Read ParcelForce's website carefully - there is a specific point abut the hardcase forming part of the packaging - you have to take further steps if you want to be able to claim for damage to the hardcase. Have a look at the market place forum - theres a lengthy sticky thread about this on there http://basschat.co.u...uriers-packing/- i posted the link there after my own bad experience.
Thanks - is this the document? http://www.parcelforce.com/sites/default/files/Packaging%20guidelines%20Final%20300412.pdf (the link from your post is dead). Useful info there in both Electrical /Electronic Items and Guitar categories - cool!
 23.
Photograph everything. So you can prove what state it left you in!
Very good idea! Will be doing this.
 24.
Golden rule - read the couriers own site to see what rules they have. If you don't follow them they won't pay out . It happened to me; royal mail insist on a hard case for all instruments . If you don't do that they won't pay in event of damage
Yep, it's going in a hard case, but I'm packing that inside delivery-quality packaging as well.
 25.
Or contact a local music shop, see if they have a suitable box about to go in their skip. I`ve sourced a few boxes this way.
Really good idea - thanks.
