Well, thank you for your help 🙂

I'm still waiting a resolution. I wrote him 3 mails and no answer.

The Bass is good except electronics (only have the option of 100%pbass, 100% jbass or both 100%).

The fissure (most important thing) and the back scratch.

When I can, I Will go to a luthier in Madrid (2h30' from me), and replace the wiring kit, and check this fissure, etc.

I don't know what is the correct compensation in money for this problems, or other option. What do you think please?.

My initial idea were buy in a year another 32"-33" Jake. But this idea is deleted now obviusly. I'm going to check second hand market.

    Thank you.

What is the point sending e-mails if you’re going to start trying to fix it yourself. The moment you start tinkering with it, he’s never going to accept it as a return. Send it back now, the problem is then his.

  2. Yes, Gail has been discussed many times here, I think that OP popped up in a thread about SBL most recently.

Anyhoo, I need no excuse to further discuss her work. IMHO, the version below is the de facto version of Under Pressure where she completely rips the song a new one.

Here’s a video of her song Magical which she wrote about Bowie. Just beautiful and has some great backstage clips.

.....and finally and predictably my Marilyn-a-like which I use in ChangesTwoBowie.

Absolutely beautiful - ‘really sorry to hear that you need to let this go. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Fodera at anything approaching this price. Absolute bargain for an instrument of this quality and cachet

I can only echo Lozz’s comments above. I’ve loved all the Monarchs I’ve had and have only gone through a few as I’ve upgraded each time. I’m sure this bass will make someone very happy indeed.

I've got the exact same bass but in black rather than  OW and it is a superb instrument,  probably the best passive Fender - style  PJ  you will find.

I hope Lozz won't mind me giving a little bit of additional info.

Going by the relatively  early serial no,  this bass  would have come from the factory with Lindy Fralin pickups as standard. Conventional wisdom is that the Fralins sound a bit more vintage than the Lakland pickups that are on my bass.

Also, the neck on these basses is not the same profile as the USA Joe Osborn model.  I know because until recently I had both.  The Jazz Bass- style  profile on the BG PJ  basses is a little bit slimmer and faster than the JO,  which is an  precise replica of Joe's 1960 Fender prototype.   The BG  Jazz necks  are modelled on a 63/64 Jazz profile, the classic slim pre-CBS design.  It's also worth mentioning that the necks on these USA Laklands are quartersawn and graphite -reinforced.

When you look at the current price of standard new USA Fenders, this bass is a bargain. Especially when you consider the quality of these Laklands is equal to, if not better than, Fender Custom Shop.

That does it. I feel like I’m just postponing the inevitable.

    @three - pm incoming

    Indeed that’s true.

I’ve also seen truly awful stuff involving old Gibson guitars and Marshall amps, whereby components from all original ‘cheaper’ models as been taken off and put onto players examples of the very desirable expensive models to make them look legit and untouched - even to the point of using NOS 50’s solder and flux - or used to make models appear to be something else, or used on plain old fakes.

Same with refinishes. I helped a friend buy an old 50’s Fender bass on BC from a guy who seemed to have a good rep. On the visit I asked if I could take the bass apart, my friend actually declined as he felt safe with the seller. Some time later when he owned it I took it apart and saw clear signs it was redone by the magnificent Clive Brown. I very much suspect the original owner knew full well that was the case, but that’s another story.

Its a market that can be quite unpleasant at times.

I remember you telling me about this. At least you were there mate, even if your advice wasn’t taken. Well done for that 👏

The pickup spacing looks like 1960s, not 1970s, so I’m leaning towards thinking it could well be an early 1970s neck attached to an earlier body.

I have to say, that was my first thought as I alluded to in my first post i.e. that it could be an interesting thread, but I’m pretty far from any expert on these things. It begs the question tho, that if that is the case, how did ‘that shop in East London’ not know?

  7. That’s a toughie. The one that really doesn’t float my boat is the black pearl.

I went for white in the end because the blocks are white.
