  1. I was strictly paper on the floor until the ole peepers started needing assistance to focus 😂.

There are a couple of programs I use across my two main bands. One uses On Song, the others use Set List Maker. They’re both suitable for what you need and free as far as I remember. I’m OK with the songs in both bands, but if I’m depping and need sheets for songs instead of a set list, then it’s great for that too. I display them on an iPad Pro, which is nice ‘cos it’s effin’ huge and I can see it from miles away. I usually hang it off one of the stands of the drum kit. I’ve found K&M tablet holders to be the best. They really make quality product.

As mentioned previously, the golden nugget is this....

....which is on my pedal board and allows me to access everything in both programmes without going anywhere near the iPad.

By far the best set-up I’ve ever had.

....but also some absolute stinkers (Robert Palmer, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen) who knows at another point in time, without that awful 80s production, even some of their stuff might have sounded half decent.

    But it's pretty doubtful

Stinkers? Mmm. Opinions do very as they say

I’ve just spent the last while looking at ACG - they are stunning basses. Time to do a search of the forums to see what people’s experiences are

I don’t think you’ll find much in the way of negative experience.

Nice Frog. There is a particular bass in stock at Bass Direct that I’ve been Gassing over for quite a while and this thread is not helping in the slightest 😂

Not shallow, you like what you like and you've got to want to play it. If Wals weren't so eye wateringly expensive , even 2nd hand, I'd be looking at them also. However, they are expensive and heavy too (one thing I have to avoid) so I can just ogle from afar. You could look at something like this, which is Wal-esque.  https://www.public-peace.de/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/jazzus/jaz-4str/1780-jazzus-4a-balkan-apple-burl-200045

Good choice right there. Looks a little bit Enfield to my eyes too - which is no bad thing 👍

You’re not wrong: Jaco, Geddy, Tim Commerford, Norman Watt Roy, to name but 4 - all very different, all very good, all use/used a Jazz.

Yes, gets my vote. Swiss Army Knife of basses right there 👍

Why did it not stay too long?

I bought it unseen and just didn’t click with it. It was another re-entry into the world of 5’ers for me as the material I was playing necessitated one. I did a bit of proper research after that and bought a Lull. Perfect.

  8. Not enough information to compute an answer I’m afraid. Budget/sound/desired spec etc all have a part to play here.

FWIW - If I had the budget for a new Mayones, I wouldn’t buy one. Plenty more fish in the sea. The one I had didn’t stay long.

  9. Veering slightly off topic I know, but a nice little video narrated by Hugh Syme regarding the creation of the art for Permanent Waves. Love the bit about the storm photographer strapping himself to street furniture. Bonkers.

Interesting to hear this was a surprise - on recent travels there seems to be at least one or two in every town doing these kerbside pints. Assumed these were commonplace across the country

Yes, I’ve since learnt there are some doing roadside pints. It was just a little odd in that I spent a good few hours walking around London yesterday waiting for my mate to have an MRI. I passed loads of pubs and there wasn’t one that was open - apart from the one I passed on the way out.

From all accounts a very nice bloke. He did indeed have top-class musicians, not least of all because he paid very well indeed. If reports are to be believed, he even, on one occasion, funded the complete mortgage up front of a band member and allowed them to pay it back to him at a super fair rate.

I heard (from a secondary source) they were all on retainers, so still got paid even when the orchestra was not working.

I know very little about him, but looking at the 2002 clip, how did he among to afford to pay so many musicians so well? Presumably his album sales will have helped, but man, there's a lot of people up on that stage.

  12. Just drove back from that their London and there was a pub open serving with builders (pints in hand) outside. Wasn't quick enough to note the name of it as I was a bit taken aback at the sight in the first place - and I was trying to turn left at the same time 😎

  13. I don’t think the 80’s were any better or worse than any other decade really.

I don’t see a duff one in the list you’ve posted. I could post a list of stuff I don’t like from the 80’s, but someone would be along in due course saying one was the best song ever, therefore pointless for me to do so.

There are quite a few there that get squared away into Ska band territory and don’t necessarily marry up with traditional 80’s cheese. I play a few of them in my 80’s band, but can’t see us adding Long Shot anytime soon.

Great lists and great idea, but I don’t see it as thankless - more of a challenge. There’s a few in there that aren’t bass for beginners.

That’s a nice looking jazz, what colour is that called Dov 🙂

It’s Inca silver. It’s a lovely matte finish as well, which was a nice surprise when I collected mine.
