And bloody hell their prices have gone up! I remember paying £800 for a chambered 33" Jake P/JJ in Shoreline Gold maybe 5 years ago?!

    Nice basses though.

Yes, I thought that, but I’m guessing there are few “options” with that build 😀

    -*Headphones Needed*-

Quick comparison between my 1971 Fender Precision (3yr old La Bella 760FL strings) and my 2020 Moollon P-Classic (new La Bella 760FS strings).

'71 is first, goes through both sections (16bars), then starts again with the Moollon through both sections again (another 16 bars).

    Tone fully ON:

    Tone fully OFF:

    Cheers

Oo oo oo - rushes to find headphones........

  3. I don’t generally drink from Sunday to Thursday. I allow a couple on Friday and Saturday nights. I have a rather lovely Parma Violet Whitley & Neill G&T to hand and am currently listening to a recommendation from @NancyJohnson and it’s pretty bloody marvellous (even on the first run through mate).

It is an album by Shudder To Think called ‘Pony Express Record’.

I’m still trying to figure out what ‘post-hardcore’ is - but I like it. Thanks mate.

Yeah Nitro starts similar to Poly, in that it's relatively 'shiny'...or gloss. But Nitro will wear and dull, whereas a Poly finish will endure, and instead of wearing naturally, chip off when damaged.

    +1

I may be overstepping my knowledge here, but that neck joint merely looks to me like the final polish of both neck and body was done with neck on. Just a bit gunky and easily resolved. You’re right to be annoyed after what it cost you, but it looks like you have a really nice bass there. I would enjoy it, wear it in and get that gloss dulled ASAP. 🤘

Yep it is. Here's some info on it from the builders site:

5 string , 35" scale,  5 piece laminate neck through contruction, hollow chambered body,  jumbo frets,  2 way adjustable truss rod, adjustable heavy alloy bridge,  passive soapbar humbucking pickup,  volume and tone controls,  side position markers.

The Mothman Bass is constructed of several different woods to achieve an extremely solid instrument with superior tone qualities and an appearance like no other instrument. The body is built on a foundation of two layers of Black Walnut.  On top of the Walnut is a layer of red Bloodwood.  The dark layer on the top is Wenge.  The neck is a 5 layer laminate of Walnut and Purpleheart.  The fingerboard is made from Bocote and nut is made of Ebony.   In order to lighten the bass, the body was hollowed out from the back.  The "Suit of Armor" plates on the back of the bass conceal the hollow chambers in the body.  Even after this lightening process,  this bass is still very heavy.   All plates are permantly attached except the small elliptical plate for access to the controls.

Nice. I presume you’re in a jazz quartet or similar 😎

Ah good someone has left a one star review saying they had an issue with racism 🤦🏻‍♂️

Any more positive reviews from anyone? Hopefully from people who have actually used customer support?!

Sounds like someone with an axe to grind. I don't believe it for a minute.

    There's always one - unfortunately.

One at a times a good way to do it. One is, and the necks are back to front instead of side by each, so it kinda throws off the count in my mind. The other one that messes with the count is cause it's been torn apart for parts to build some custom nightmare that I dreamed up.

I knew there would be a good reason 😂.

    Welcome.

Now, where are the pictures of this Moth bass I see mentioned?

Been playing on and off for 20-some years now. Never been in a band. Currently I've got 10 or 12 basses depending on how you count them.

Usually one at a time. Are two of them double necks?

Hello I was looking for the BASS tabs for Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon song.  i have found two that were not correct and although I'm trying to pick up by ear and watching several videos I am still struggling.  As a new bass player I am just trying to make sure I am right.  Thanks for info you can send in advance!!

    Phil

I would have a look at this and pick it apart using the change speed function.

I don’t know the bass line note for note, but I would be surprised if Troy drops any notes. He’s very faithful in everything he does.

Not much at all, by design. Moollon have their P-Classic, and their J-Classic, they have their specs based on the builder's old Fenders, and they don't deviate from them. They are meant to be vintage correct instruments, not a custom spec build. They have a full FAQ on their Facebook where they openly say 'if you're looking for a customisable spec, go to another fantastic builder like Sadowsky or Lull etc, but if you're looking for a vintage spec P or J, that's what Moollon do.

    Si

Good question and a great answer. I shall be investigating. Thanks to you both 👍

  11. I’m expecting a delivery from Rush Backstage. The last three from them have been cash on the doorstep to cover all duties when they attempted delivery. I guess it would depend on the carrier. They use UPS, but DHL usually ask you to pay online before they even attempt to bring the item out for delivery. Do you know who the courier is?

The Donner page turner from Amazon. Dead simple to use - the only thing that confuses me is that the iPad sees it as a keyboard so you can’t type anything while the page turner is connected, I always forget this and spend five minutes trying to work out when the iPad won’t allow me to type anything.

I think all turners are the same in this respect and, frankly, it’s more a reflection on my slow-wittedness....

    Here’s the link;

Yes, the Airturn is the same, but once you know it, it’s hard to forget (I think 😂).

I started doing that, in the app you can link it to the original song time from spotify or wherever. Some songs we had Re-arranged timings, lengths etc. For me it was easier to press a button at the end of each chorus/verse

I also popped a clear page between songs reminding me of any tuning changes etc

easy to build multiple set lists, dates, different bands etc

The way I did it was to time the song as we played it in rehearsal and stuck that into the app - Bob’s yer mother’s brother.

I use a Samsung tablet, don't know which one but about a ten or eleven inch screen. We all go through FOH, no backline, and each have a tablet to control our monitor mix and levels so it made sense to use the tablet for any charts or cheat sheets.

Yes, I’ve used this a couple of times with an app called UC Surface to control my own mix on larger gigs and it was amazing. I believe it relies on having a stable wi-fi to run off though, so it’s not for every gig. The ability to tinker about with your own in-ear mix  without waiting for a gap in the music or shouting at the PA guy is just the best thing ever....IMHO.

I have used On Song as well and the ik media Bluetooth foot controller.

On song you can reverse the colour so it’s in a negative and is easy on a dark stage and reduces glare on you.

Key Changes, chords etc are very easy to annotate on it.

I was using it for vocals to make sure I didn’t forget as playing and had each verse per page to make it big. You can have it so it scrolls in the app according to time of the song, but I had a verse per page and just scrolled a page using the Bluetooth controller

    its great

Yes, the negative function is great. Very little light emitted and saves on battery too.

You can also use timed scrolling, so you can hit go at the start of the song and it should auto scroll at the correct tempo all the way through.
