  1. This is a very interesting thread. Can I ask what maybe a daft question? Are the strings in the OP’s photo’s all under tension. I’m presuming so as gaps in the windings in photo’s 2 & 4 are quite significant/more than I thought they would be for flats. Gonna have to get one of those magnifiers. Didn’t even know they existed.

That's at least is a fair opinion to have, and even something that would be valid to post, even if you didn't bother to watch the video.

At least it is still somewhat on topic.

Just making fun of the video thumbnail, which with in all likelihood neither Victor Wooten or the interviewer had any say in, and which has nothing to do with the actual content, without even bothering watching the actual video interview  isn't exactly really anything that can create any constructive debate whatsoever.

That's just filling the thread up with poop, at least as far as I am concerned.

It would very much be the same as a thread filled up with snarky remarks about some spelling error I made in my OP, but no one actually bothering reading it through and replying to it.

1 post like that I guess would be fine and nothing to worry about, but 3 posts from 3 different users in a row as the top replies, evolving around the same lame joke, it's beginning to look like a pattern and a tendency, to me at least.

Do I have bad breath or something, anyone?

....but you are starting to sound like the definition of your username. Chill out man.

  3. That would be this one....

I should add that I was a keys student in my early teens and my tutor had (what turned out to be) my first bass hanging in his wall. I was sufficiently distracted by it to get him to teach me this tune on it....the rest, as they say, it history 😂. I still have the bass.

Anyone using "locking" 1/4" jacks on their cables, if so what do you recommend? Or are folk generally just looping their lead around their straps to stop them yanking out mid set?

Nah. Never seen the point. Anyone who has their cable coming out of the bass and going straight to the floor (if not wireless) deserves anything they get.

I'm just thinking ahead to a significant birthday.. but can UK dealers order SLO necks and the limited models? Or is it a straight "no" from MM for that sort of thing?

Their web site has changed and there are reduced options now. When the Sparkly Night finish was announced, I spoke with Strings & Things (their UK distributor) and managed to confirm an HS configured Stingray with a matching headstock and an SLO neck. It’s a seriously nice looking/sounding bass and plays beautifully. Obviously that wasn’t a BFR, but even now, I don’t think you could order an SLO on a limited run for the reasons already stated by @drTStingray.

If I gigged this bass, this is how I think I would look.

Not that he’s in this picture, but if I got that gig, having a pink sparkly bass would be the least of my worries. Jamareo Artis is a seriously funky player - IMHO.

I really like the colour of this bass, and I don't normally go for sparkle finishes, or pink for that matter. But I think the gold hardware is too much. It makes it look as if it is trying too hard to be ostentatious. And EBMM don't offer the option to change it, as others have pointed out previously. Such a shame as I am in the market for a Stingray at the moment.

Anything particular that floats your boat so to speak. I could justify that Dargie Delight if I sold one of my current ones 😂

Small venues are in trouble and some need all the help they can get.

    Two approaches

    - Collecting for the band on the night (the proverbial passing a hat round)

    - Pro rata your usual fee there in line with their reduction in capacity.

Don’t feel ‘musicians playing for free damages it for other musicians’ stands up right now in the current climate. Everyone needs to do what they can to help eachother.

The ones that are really in trouble are the venues that have no option for outside performances and there is nothing we can do to help them. A venue that we play regularly has a 3/400 cap, with restrictions in place for social distancing, the cap would be so reduced they couldn’t afford to open the doors in the first place. Hard to feel that sorry for the proverbial Dog & Duck with a stage in the beer garden and expecting a band for nothing. Don’t buy that sorry.

  9. Respect to those who would, but not for me and I'm fairly sure neither of my bands would either.

The purpose of being asked to play in these circumstances would surely be to increase the takings at the venue, presumably to a level where they not only cover their costs, but make some money out of it - but none goes to the band? Given that pubs can open (within restrictive guidelines) and the only way most bands can play at a pub is if the venue has the facility for outside performance, I find the 'for free' thing a little difficult to comprehend at the moment.

Not surprised mate, it’s a perfect partner for your purple Modulus.

Yeah, she properly gives me what for if I turn up to an 80's gig without the Modulus. If I move up next to her while she's singing, in the right light, the sparkle can make her forget lyrics. Complete glitter junkie 😂

The singer in my 80’s band would go ape over that Champagne finish. I might send her the pic and report back with her reaction.

Well that didn’t take long. She said “Oh..... my.......god...... me want it 😍😍😍xx”

The Fender guys didn’t mind, but the Music Man rep (a real salt of the earth and lovely guy) got panicked as I never told him which neck swaps we did, so their records were out. It was ok to swap a neck on same spec gear, the customer was always happy and ended up with a top notch set up too.

Anyway @hiram.k.hackenbacker, haven’t you got a credit note at BD?

Ha ha. No I spent that on the Darkglass 900 V2 ‘Euryale‘. If I was going to spend £2750 on a Stingray (I’m not. I’m really not. Well not today anyway 😂), I would take that Dargie over the Pink Champagne. There’s something about those plain ebony fretboards that I really like. The singer in my 80’s band would go ape over that Champagne finish. I might send her the pic and report back with her reaction.

Years ago (early 80s), a mate of mine bought a new Fender Precision in Landaan.  At the time Fender either didn't make the combination of body/neck that he wanted and, get this, the shop just swapped necks with a different bass.

Yes, I think @Chiliwailer has described similar occurrences when he worked in the trade. At least he got what he was after 😂

I'd love a St Vincent.  When my mum passed away, I inherited a bit (let's not talk numbers) and promised myself (and her too, as she did say to spend some of it friviously) an instrument of some sort.  Actually popped an email to MusicMan about and asked whether they could tweak one of the grey-sparkle ones for me...single bridge pickup, coil tapped, volume control only, plain scratchplate.  I mean, how difficult would that have been?  I actually wanted less than the stock specification.  Didn't hear a bean, so bought a Spector.

This rings a bell. I wanted to order a Stingray some time back in a colour and hardware combination that they didn’t have a build number for. They did the finish and all the other bits, just not all together. Oh, it had an SLO neck on it too, which they still did then. I did get a reply, very much in the ‘oh no, we don’t do that kind of thing’ tone. I pointed out that they would have everything they needed to put it together and I was prepared to wait and pay extra if required. The next reply may as well of been ‘off you f**k’.

    So I did.

I see the bass was bought from Peach Guitars, not a selller I've ever seen much mentioned on Basschat and until the other day, one I was not aware of. They however claim to be the UK's laargest Guitar store.

I've been there a few times. I think that claim is in respect of it's physical size, which is quite impressive, but I didn't find much there to pique my interest to be honest.

I usually pop in there after I've been to Status HQ, so it does have a lot to live up to 😂.
