1. You could always take a look at a s/h Dingwall ABZ :-) Light, has a 35 inch string somewhere as well :-)
 2. Apart from the BTB's are not most of the high end ibbys 34" ?? My SR765 certainly is... I have to ask the question though, why new? There's some lovely mint s/h stuff within your price range....
Ibanez SR or a Yamaha TRB sound like a good fit. Liam
3. It won't go bang.. It will go into one of two protection modes... As wot it sez in the manuel... I've run my RH450 happily into two nominally 4 ohm EBS410's at volume without any problems.....
 4. As other folk say it's all about power amp input sensitivity.. My QSC has a input sensitivity 1.4 V and needs a preamp to get it to gigging levels even with an Active bass... Some power amps have adjustable input sensitivity, but they are usually designed to run at line levels..
 5. SP212 is an 8 Ohm cab so unlikely to have any problems with the Genz... Maybe a couple of foam blocks with velcro tape for both sides to attach the amp to the cab whilst clearing the Handle? Will help cool the Shuttle a little better as well Or you could put the cab on it's side?

 7. I've never heard any fan noise from my TC RH450.. And even after a gig playing at 50% into a 4 ohm load it's slightly warm to the touch..
 8. I'm not using it that much, so when the time comes ping me and we can chat.. :-)
Your Status would most likely fit my criteria If there's one for sale in 6 months, I may go for it. A dingwall would be even better, but I can't afford one.
9. Ah, so you want a really really good and really really cheap one? I'll have some of those as well
And a welcome one too. It's a good instrument, but I think I'd end up wanting a better fretless after a few years.
10. Along with Conflict jet engines and Conflict prosthetics :-) You've a better than even chance your cobalt did not come from the Congo though.... And Cobalt is part of Alnico pickups as well..
so we did have conflict diamonds- and now we have conflict guitar strings? what next is sterling ball singlehandedly going to go knocking down rain forests to get the best wood? or just enslave mexicans to build them?
11. I presume if we intro any of the songs as "this is our post-modern ironic take on this" we'd get away with it... ?
 12. Although I have a Proline EBS410 and Barefaced S12T sitting next to each other and even if I discount the weight/size thing, the S12T is the better sounding cab to me...
I would still say that a good 410 is still the cab to beat... altho I am a fan of 2x210's for the carry aspect. For a 212 to get near that..or 2x112 you will have your work cut out, IMO...but then you also need to factor in other compromises...which most of us have to accomodate so it comes down to the individual, as always.
13. I would expect so, fret spacing would dominate though and I find it harder to bend that close to the nut anyway....(arrff arrff)
Cool. And presumably the further down the neck to where the difference in angle relative to the bridge is more extreme, the same thing would be noticable... only in reverse?
14. Have just checked (the note bending thing) and it's noticeably different at the 13th fret, not hugely noticeable but it's there if you look for it.. I assume the effect increases the further you go up the dusty end of the neck as both fret spacing decreases, and fret wonkiness increases.. So another advantage, two bendy modes rather than one
 15. I think it always goes up, but the amount probably varies (assuming equal displacement)) whether you're up or down bending.. I think this is probably masked because you bend for a note, not an amount of movement if that makes sense? I'll have a go on mine later and see,,,
Can anyone post a vid to support this please? To me this just mucks about with the laws of physics. Surely a plucked note bent up (toward the player) or down (towards his feet) on the same fret with a reasonable tangent cannot result in the same pitch. In both instances you are ending on a different speaking length (fretted point) on the string (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter) while exherting the exact same increase in tension. The resultant pitch (and pitch shift characteristics) in both cases must be different. I can't get my head around how it can be exactly the same as on a standard bass.
16. I picked up my Status S1 wood/carbon 5 string fretless for about the budget you've got..
 17. I prefer a meet up.... Unless I've dealt with them before.....
 18. You'd think so ....
Surely it's simply a question of pressing the button to call up the next patch? That's the whole point of these devices.
19. I've yet to see a review where the lowest mark was worse than "maybe it's slightly less wonderful than the twice as expensive super wonderful doodah.."
Whether you think BGM's reviews are objective is another matter.
20. And as the germans would say "genau".... :-) I'm not talking about a few seconds here, sometimes more than a minute...
Ha! I think Jean-Paul Sartre said it, 'L'enfer, c'est les autres'.
21. Oh I would believe you ... I left a band recently simply because a guitarist did'nt understand that playing with other humans on a stage rather than noodling to himself in his house required different settings on his overmodelled Roland magic box.... To be fair his tantrums about not having enough time to change patches between each song also had an effect..
 22. One of the Mywatt's is on my long term wish list :-)
 23. I'm converted.. Take a look to the left... However the fanned frets are the one consistent element of Sheldons basses, materials and electronics vary widely..
People focus too much on the fanned frets and not enough on what is generally an awesome bass
24. That would be part of my approach.. I would also get a recording made by a zoom or equivalent digital recorder to show what it sounds like in the room.. Belt and braces...
I do have another ace up my sleeve. I've been recording all the gigs... I've got a pair of Adats slaved together and I'm recording it all via the direct outs onto individual tracks, so I can mix later. I then import it into Sonar via my RME DIGI9636 sound card (16 simultaneous ins via lightpipe form the adats.) Anyway, playing with these recordings tells me that there's an overabundance of stuff happening below 400hz. The minute I filter that out, it all becomes clear and you can hear individual parts. I'll may go for that approach. Here's how it does sound / here's how it can sound. Thanks for the input so far chaps.
25. Hi Sheldon, What in your view are the downsides, if any, to using fanned frets? Just to balance things from a discussion perspective.. BUt it would be a boring world if everyone liked the same stuff...
Thanks Wayne. When the time comes that you get a chance to play one, if you like it great, if you don't, no worries, you still have my respect.
