A few months ago I wanted to buy a p bass from him, sent 3 mails because I wanted to know if I could specify a custom color from the Vibrance catalog. I remember a youtube vid where he stated that he could build in almost unlimited colors and talked about a line of Vibrance colors. End of story, I never got an answer to any mail. In my opinion it is a sign of bad customer care. Obviously I changed my mind and bought elsewhere
Not having a go, but it still puzzles me that people equate sending an email with guaranteed receipt. Many many things can go wrong, including blacklisting, a not very well run email server (both parties) and so on.. If you're not getting through by email try a phone call - it only costs pence per minute if you use a prefix dial service...

2x Mackie HD 1501 Subwoofers...
markstuk replied to moonbass's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Price drop bump - now £450 each These have had very light use over 4 years. Never had to have volume over 50% and only gig maybe once every month or two. Scuffs are just the nature of moving heavy painted birch boxes in venues I've never had any problems with them, and only selling as I'm upgrading to a single RCF sub.
-
fugly as fug..

Or a "drop in" John East J-retro preamp... http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/j-retro-01.html - I've got this in my Jazz 5 with Nordstrand big singles... Enormous tonal range..

raffle prize at the Bass Bash next week?

these will probably go for £50 over your budget but will blow the socks off anything above.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KRK-Rokit-5-RPG2-studio-monitors-PAIR-Boxed-with-Leads-Great-condition-/262626670537

Samson are generally good and the behringers also get some love (shock horror!!) I suspect there is not going to be much of a difference, but trawl the various web reviews/forums and get a sense of what people think.. Personally I'm a Tannoy fan (I use NFM8's at home) so I would go for the reveals above - depends on distance though as they are pick up only..

something like these? Won't be fantastic but will be much better than pc speakers.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roland-Edirol-MA10-D-Active-Monitor-Speakers-/222245995239 or a pair of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BST-Studio-5A-B-Active-Studio-Monitor-High-Quality-Music-Production-Monitor-/262514332149 or.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Behringer-MS16-Active-Monitor-Speakers-/291874289890 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Edirol-MA-10A-Digital-Active-Stereo-Monitor-Speakers-/222240426963 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roland-Edirol-active-powered-speakers-MA-15D-TESTED-/331959794603 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Denon-Professional-DN-304S-Pair-4-2-Way-Active-Studio-Monitor-Speakers-20-Watt-/141899454420 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/tannoy-reveal-402-monitor-speakers-/152244353068 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fostex-PM0-3d-Active-Speaker-System-pair-matte-black-/112090727245 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M-Audio-AV42-Active-Desktop-Monitor-Speakers-Pair-AV-42-/401003054140
Ahem...lack of trade agreements
Only adds 3.4 % to the price... Which I'm happy to pay to stop US HMO's taking over the NHS...
-
Well, we shall see. I'll probably have a go regardless. They could also ask if I'd bought my iPod over there, or a watch, in fact anything....which I may/may not have (and in this case won't have).
They have access to serial number databases and are not idiots.. Having travelled to and from the USA 10-12 times a year in a previous job, I did bring stuff in and did get stopped (camera in this instance). I got away with paying just the VAT and Duty but I suspect had I put an attitude on it would have been seized...
-
True. Bought a lot of clothing and other things in the past from the USA and never had a question. Same with old handheld consoles years back. Even when I had the box with them. How would they know I'd bought it in the USA?
They don't have to prove it. You do... Also the fact you have the box/packaging folded up in your other luggage might be a clue Usually they only require you to pay the VAT and duty, but they can seize as well...
-
sure, mesa pricing in the UK and Europe is egregious.. However $599 + sales tax (lowest in any state you're likely to visit unless you go to Alaska) means you'll pay $629 to take it out of the door. $629 = £490 at a damn fine dollar buy rate. Plus 20% VAT = £587. PLus 3.4% Duty = £606... So in this instance I don't think anyone is being greedy..
At the size it is, fold up the box, put the amp in it's gig bag, put it in your hand luggage. Tiny piece of gear! I'm off to Florida soon and I'm going to get a few pedals and maybe one of these ridiculously small latest gen amps, but more than likely the Guitar Tone Block 201.
All assuming you don't get stopped
-
Sure, but once you pay any local sales tax, vat and duty the numbers are not that different. And then you have warranty issues having saved 10% at best

I think the OP is entirely justified - he could equally ask for the band to learn songs that are not in their set that he knows well... Also he may not have loads of spare time/and or there are other difficult songs he likes that he could be learning.. I think someone in the band has read some management books and entirely misapplying some of the nastier interview techniques. My personal favourite was at Schlumberger many years ago where they took 6-8 candidates out to dinner and then asked them to explain in front of all the others why they were best suited to the job and why the others might not be,,
