  1. I have decided to finally let this go, having forgot this ad was still live, I allowed it to slip down the for sale section. after getting cold feet and carried on using it for the last two years. So If you are after one, PM me with an offer on that old price above. I only do big band jazz now so its overkill but love the tone and EQ flexibility. Cheers Paul.
  2. Offers anyone, I'm in South Wales this weekend if that helps get it closer to you. But I know that won't help you Dave sorry 😄
  3. I have just purchased two packs of Nickel would bass strings 50.70.85.105 from the Gallery, just putting first one on my bass and realised the taper starts too soon and yes i have bought medium scale not long scale. ( same colour box). But only realised once i had put a right angle in the string and snipped off the end. The Gallery have offered to exchange the unopened pack. which means you can have this pack at half price. As I was putting these four on my 5 string. the E string 105 I bent and snipped will be plenty long enough for a 33" 4 string bass. THIS INCLUDES POSTAGE TO YOU.
  4. I didn't say which way the band was heading when we got the horse box gig. Just look at Glastonbury a few acts there all back on the farm after a glittering career 😆
  5. I have had a think and attached pics of the worse and best changing rooms we had over the years - A muddy horse box in a farm yard at a private event, and the best was the main ball room at the Cafe Royal over looking Regent St. as it was empty and we were playing in the small room next door. No M&M's but we did get Champagne and pistachios.
  6. We used MU contracts but would also have a conditions of contract that went with it stating key points. Just a one side of bullet points will do. As well as electrical issues, If outside, cover to protect band from the elements should be provided, The Band requires hard surface to perform on e.g extended dance floor, or staging We reserve the right to terminate the performance should a guest or guests behavior threaten the safety of the band or equipment. A room is required for the band to change and leave personal belongings, this should be secure dry and well lit, toilets are not acceptable. etc etc. And I haven't mentioned blue M&Ms once yet. 😆
  7. I was the spark in our band so ended up dealing with all the above. But I did make sure we had written into our contracts that all our gear was PAT tested, but we reserve the right not to play should we find a fault on venues ring main circuit, and that the hirer should make sure that the venue is tested, properly earthed and complies with is Electrical supply regulations. You have to give some back or at least cover your donkey. So you still get paid.
  8. you also need to avoid small geny's where frequencies can be out ie not 50 Hz, I would say 5 KVA min. with good instrumentation, and there could be issues stopping running out of fuel etc, a collapsing electrical field on a generator is bad news for electronics. Don't think I have ever been happy playing of a generator. I have always wondered what a center tapped to earth generator does for band gear, you can't test the output polarity etc as it shows as an earth fault on a martindale tester? anyone on here enlighten me.
  9. No, not used with hi pass filter, just got it to run my two 4 ohm cabs. I don't know how it will respond to two inputs as one will be attenuated differently so lower in volume but should be OK as the signal is from the same source = i.e. one bass. it all depends if you can then level this up with the dual volume output knobs without running out of steam on one side.
  10. Many manufacturers indicate their inputs like this now, true passive basses like Fender P would go in the top passive input but many modern active passes do not present an overly hot signal so can also go in the (passive/active) input. just try it and watch and adjust your settings and the clip light will indicate if you need to back off if its too hot then try the Active only input. I have several basses with East preamps and have always used them this type of passive inputs with no trouble. It will depend on where you want to be with your gain settings on the bass and amp. Cheers Paul.
  11. Now PAT tested until May 2024 - I didn't want that photo to put you off buying a great Amp. 👍
  12. Now Sold Up for sale is my SWR SM-500 In great condition, It can be used stereo with effect returns/ dual mono or just one side, I bought this to power my two 4ohm cabs prior to going down the Boogie 2ohm route. Comes in rack sleeve. SWR SM-500 Tube Preamp/Solid State Power Amp. The SM-500 Professional Bass Amplifier provides the power, performance, flexibility and portability required by the professional bassist for every style of playing and nearly every playing situation. To design an amplifier that would cover “all of the basses,” SWR had to use almost every imaginable type of electronic component available. This added up to an all TUBE preamp section, a limiter circuit utilizing Field Effect Transistors (“FETs”), tone and equalizer controls utilizing integrated circuits, and two individual power amps employing discrete, solid state devices. The power amplifiers in the SM-500 can be used individually to provide full stereo capabilities, each delivering 250 watts into individual 4 ohm speaker enclosures. In the event that more power is required, the amplifiers can be bridged for 400 Watts @ 8 ohms or 550 watts @ 4 ohms. The power amps are cooled by a thermostatically controlled fan and the chassis is vented on its rear and right side. FRONT PANEL FEATURES: • Dual independent input jacks compatible for both active and passive instruments • Gain Control with LED peak clipping indicator • Variable Limiter Control • Aural Enhancer Control • Bass Control ±15dB cut/boost (shelving point: 80Hz) • Treble Control ±15dB cut/boost (shelving point: 2kHz) • Transparency Control ±15dB cut/boost (shelving point: 5kHz) • Variable Graphic Equalizer with ±15dB cut/boost • Band One: 31Hz to 160Hz • Band Two: 80Hz to 320Hz • Band Three: 200Hz to 800Hz • Band Four: 400Hz to 1.6kHz • Effects Blend Control • Dual Concentric (Stereo) Master Volume Control • Speaker On/Off Switch • Power On/Off Switch Collection only please or possible meet up Thames Valley area PM me
  13. They are extremely well made basses grab one when you get a chance, nearly all have ebony boards and were sort of plec -ed before the term was used and registered so pretty damn perfect neck although many will now be 30 years old +
  14. Excellent bass sound and grove well done. I must spend more time in the kitchen at parties
  15. Reduced again to £1100 collected For sale only – Ale Antia - 5 string 32” scale. From the Luthiers site https://aleguitarsluthier.wordpress.com/basses/antia-bass-32-olive-top/ A fantastic piece of craftsmanship with great sustain and a wonderful organic fundamental tone. When I purchased the bass, It was strung E < C I fitted a custom set of Newtone strings, I used it like this for a year and then ordered another set B < G . currently back to E -- C . Both work well on the bass with very little adjustment, both sets will be supplied with the bass. The Richter pre-Amp is very clever and frequency centers are spot on to be really useful live. Front to rear 1. Volume, with pull to go passive. 2. Blend Mag/Piezo. 3. Passive Tone (only works with 1 pulled). 4. Bass/treble boost but is flat with center pulled so you can pre-set levels for a solo passage by pushing in. 5. Mid cut, right where it matters. The action is low and fast, with flat neck profile front to rear. The bass is in excellent order with the normal play wear expected 9.5 /10. The Bass will come with Hiscox case and strap. The Aguilar mag pup has an Olive ramp which I currently have off. I have included some photos from the previous owner due to better camera detail. Prefer pickup and a chat here in West Berkshire but will send within UK. will also meet up within 40 mile radius. The bridge is an ETS bridge and currently set to 18mm the link above says different. Please PM me with any questions. Weight is 8lb 4 oz kitchen scales
  16. You are too close to me to go posting pictures like this on a Sunday Morning, I am just getting over some fretless Gas. But a lovely bass and that looks very much like the Schack preAmp Martin used in his basses, which I love, very versatile and why he used them. All the best with the Sale.
  17. Hi Guys and Gals. our big band is putting on a charitable concert with a local am-dram choir, and we are looking for arrangements of these parts. Can you help. Many thanks. Putting On The Ritz 42nd Street Cabaret
  18. I'd want a Mercedes bolted to that 😁 but wouldn't want to raise expectations of the band rolling up at gigs with that, tough act to follow 👍 all the best
  19. I went over to the D800 when they came out, was disappointed with its flexibility, over my previous Markbass amp, and the GK MB500fusion i used, sold it and went up to the MESA 800+ which i still have for the extra flexibility but still feel the Markbass are better voiced and louder as a 500 watt to the Mesa 800 ??

  21. On a 5 string I find it is wedged between the B and E muting both when playing A, D, G. I seem to change the angle of it for an occasional E so just muting the B. but it don't move much. Can't say i think about it much anymore The B string is my thumb rest if the part requires a lot of notes on the E string.
  22. Then there are the treacle mines in Tadley of course
