  1. Great basses I bought one new many years ago but It needs that great preAmp back in there. IMHO
  2. Ditto above, sent and received basses this year, wrapped inside and out but always state the value pay the money no problems so far, you would think the post office staff would point out the small print when you say "Its a bass and worth £1500" etc.
  3. This bass is now SOLD But yes miracles do happen, the guy obviously scratched his itch to be in a band, then put it back in the case in 1981 and forgot about it for the next 40+ years, but now in our community.
  4. For Sale Only Aria Pro II 700 passive bass. Selling on behalf of the original owner, who is moving house this week and needs this out of the way. The Bass comes in its original case which is in good order inc key. The price is arbitrary based on recent Ebay listings. If you want it PM me your offer. This was bought new from Kingfisher music in Fleet - original receipt is included as is the original Guarantee, and hang tag see photo, He hasn't even removed the cotton from the tuner. Also has unopened Aria guitar lead. I have only cleaned the frets and nut and lemon oiled the rosewood board and put a new set of strings on it to be able to asses it properly and play it. The bass is in excellent condition with only one minor dink to the edge above the rear strap button. I have played this at home for over a week now it has great tone. construction :- Mahogany wings on a flamed maple neck through with walnut stringers. Weight is 9lb and (1/2 an ounce) on kitchen scales Edit - Just to note rear of bass photo has reflection from window that is not a mark.
  5. I was looking for a photo to add here and came across this, me and the Mrs looking at our guitarist who just went into the biggest Les Dawson improvisation mid number. I am of course bollock naked behind there.
  6. Only if you tell me how to play last train to London 😁
  7. Great basses - had one in French violet, would have to be a very special p bass trade to match up to this. GAS warning
  8. A four string set was under £25 and the single B was a£10 inc postage so you are looking at a small saving that is not £££ wise really worth the added agro, but I also wanted to get away from the over heavy B string as a felt the smaller 125 size may be more musical and sit better on the bass, I feel now that this is better and haven't missed the 130 but definitely didn't want to go to a 135. It was a good opportunity to experiment.
  9. Interestingly I bought a bass on here earlier in the year and checked the gauge of strings with my micrometer and found they were 50,70, 85, 105 EXL160's liked them so just changed all 3 of my basses to them. on my 5 strings i bought four string sets and added single 125's on the low end. The Gallery and GAK had them on offer recently, and Bass Direct had the singles on offer. a messy way to buy strings but worked out fine in the end. My CS p bass keeps its Labella flats though.
  10. Just wondering what music you and Paul S are playing to go flats on everything. I have flats on my P for Jazz and is also OK for 60's and Motown etc. but I worried enough about mid and top bite for rock and pop to go out and get another 4 string with round wound nickles on that would cut through the mix and band. That was just in case I got into that again which i now have. So justified my gass 🤘
  11. My only deviation from my top post was when I got a Status electro and i tried every coated string available clear and black nylon, found the clear to have more bite. sold all the also rans with the bass as they were not on for long. And the other exception is My CS 62 fender P bass that has La Bella flats on, which will probably never be changed.
  12. Hi All I'm just changing strings on my basses having not done so since I stopped playing rock n pop back in Dec 2020. But just started again 😁 It got me thinking about how my preferences have changed and how these were influenced often by availability. From memory this is my journey over the last 40 years. would be interesting to hear yours. My first bass was a 77P I bought off John East in 1979. He used Roto sound solo. back then they came with with a separate teardrop brass ball end and you had to cut the single bridge wire to length and thread it back on itself to hold in position. So i stuck with these as long as i could get hold of them, they were pressure wound. and these saw me into the gigging world. These later changed to having conventional ball end as they do today. But also disappeared from sale for a few years. Music shops around the country never kept a great range of bass strings, always every guitar string on the planet and just a handful of bass strings 😠 Then Bass center Elites seemed to be marketed hard and these seem to push out other brands so often it was these or nothing, no internet shopping back then. So i went over to them and was quite happy still into Stainless steel. Then i discovered their ground wound which was similar to the Roto pressure wound if not a little rougher. But like all others manufacturers they seem to have blips in supply and I couldn't always get these. some bass dealing at the Gallery in the 1990's introduced me to GHS strings they also did pressure wound strings. So for some years i ordered through them. As you would never see these or DR out in the Shires. Then at some point I found Status strings on their site, also doing a ground wound string at very reasonable prices and so ran with these for a few years. But alas they too stopped and from looking at Basschat and basses for sale everyone seemed to be using D'Addario so gave these a try and dipped my toe into the world of Nickle wound string. and with exception of a pack of SIT strings I was sent with a cab purchase have been with D'Addario ever since and very happy. Would just like to say I have had a couple of special strings made up for my 32" bass by Newtone strings, really nice and great service. If and when you need something special. That's all Over to you guys.
  13. Ice Ice Baby, may have sold more ice creams 😋
  14. Ireland, must be well up there.
  15. Teddy Bears Picnic here too. But he never stops outside my house always a couple of streets away.
  16. This is who I was watching and going through his videos check him out great diverse stuff from him.
  17. Just been trawling YouTube and this cropped up. what a talent.
  18. Great sounding Amps these, I have the BX 500 same features. this is a bargain so grab it and worry about the valve later. the switch on the back will bypass the valve if it plays up.
  19. Thanks for all your "likes" this is without doubt the best constructed and best sounding bass I have owned. But just 2" short for me to feel comfortable. Great for Jazz, chords, tapping and noodling J.S.Bach. 😘
  20. Yep 9 hrs of it there, my other fave is this one, reminds me of hot summers by the pool in far off places. https://open.spotify.com/user/billy.esteban?si=83588a75b7ed4b82 23 hrs of good stuff.

  22. Yep all of the above, apart from IPad. For Rock n roll type stuff, my notes may be just Eb, or the 3 main chords depending on the pattern, for more complex numbers I'll start with an A4 sheet and bass on my lap, find the key, then try and get down the notes of the bass line in rough bar form with repeats and usual Verse /Chorus etc. Once i think i have the song down ill try and simplify and tidy my crib sheet further. Then practice it until its one that I can remember, I may still take my list of prompts to the gig, but hope by then i look at it and think - oh ya its that one. I am terrible at remembering song titles and blank easily on stage, when the singer turns and shouts out a number. I may just need the drummer to start or that guitar intro and Im away, but of course if you are all in on the one, that's no help. I have often played 4 or 8 bars in auto pilot thinking what the hell is this song hoping it will come to me before the chorus. Hence the crib sheet to avoid total humiliation.
  23. What memories, wish i kept my band booking diaries. But the dreaded Bingo ! I have similar recollections of loosing 60% of the punters after Bingo, but they weren't there for the music anyway. Those that stayed wanted to dance. I remember doing a show case at a big club - Bands and comics etc to hopefully get more work as agents had come down to see the acts. We got fed, Ham or cheese roll with side salad on a paper plate. Our two sax players decided to tip their side salad into the raffle drum, as no raffle had taken place so must be last weeks tickets, But no it was the monthly meat draw that night.
