1. Wow - absolutely beautiful! Is it a gloss or satin finish (and would the scratch polish or buff out)?
2. Littleal - gorgeous and befitting your talent! Mine is a 2002 Mk2 in Walnut (talent utterly un-befitting of the bass)
3. Absolutely lovely - always been a fan of the better Antorias. The binding is extremely impressive!
4. You're probably going to need a Hiscox STD-EBP at about £70 - few cases fit the Ripper/Grabber range and I'm pretty sure the standard Hiscox EBS doesn't http://www.djmmusic.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=STD-EBP
5. I had the pink and it was absolutely stunning in every way (just the neck profile that was a problem for me). Finishing was beautiful and I'd suspect the sonic is just as good - one of the best spray jobs I've seen. I agree with Tony too - sonic blue is just an amazing block colour - easily my favourite.
6. I've bought an igig, mono and protec contego in the past three months - I'd have to say that whilst they're all excellent bags, the contego is my favourite as it offers the greatest level of protection. They're available at thoman for about 90 euros - much less expensive than an igig
7. Just bought a Mono gig bag from Dave - really friendly, accommodating and communicative. A really fast deal - great packing, great item and rapid arrival. Fully trustworthy and generally a great guy!
8. As all others have said, best of luck with this - it's a tremendously difficult decision that you're taking for the best of reasons. To everybody thinking of buying - I've seen three of the basses up for sale: the fretless P (now gone?), LPB Ltd Edition J and the Burgundy J - all are sublime examples of their type - I was honestly blown away (and I've had one or two half-decent basses myself). Whilst looking at Andy's basses, I also had the pleasure of hearing him play and can report that he is an extraordinarily gifted musician with phenomenal technique and feel - whatever you need to sell, nobody can take away your talent (and that's the important bit).
9.
Lightweight amp heads. Whether they be A/B or D.
I'd agree but go further - the DI box (a favourite tool towards the end of my 'career')
10. Wow indeed!
11. I've had the great pleasure of seeing the LPB and Burgundy Mist Js and the fretless P - very beautiful basses all! Indeed, a very lovely collection
12. I'd take a look at an Epifani UL112c - I really can't imagine why I sold mine - the most versatile, sweet-sounding, pro combo I've witnessed (and light too). Unfortunately, they're not too easy to find (and they're expensive too - you're paying for quality design and execution here). If you decide to go for a pre, I'd be thinking seriously about an Alembic SF2 - extraordinarily versatile and ultra-high quality (often thought of as Series II electronics in a box but actually more than this)
13. A significant amount of invention and incremental innovation preceding the Steinberger system (hardly radical, but a major disjunction) then more incrementalism in the period since. I'm not discounting some real progress (neck through, filter-based pres, neo etc.) but it has to Steinberger for me
14. Wow! One of my dream basses - love the dots and bound (and lollipops!)
15. I had and very recently sold (no reflection on the bass) a '90s re-issue. Playability was phenomenal and the bass is incredibly light. I wasn't a massive fan of the core tone but with decent eq the bass was capable of a big round bottom-end and fairly crisp highs (maybe a little twangy). I'd certainly recommend the '90s reissue if you can source one at a decent price
16. I love them all, just to varying degrees
17. I received an IGiG bag from Scott yesterday - it was advertised as being in 'as new' condition and it certainly is. Packaging was excellent and delivery was super-rapid. Communications were great. I'd can thoroughly recommend Scott - an outstandingly honest and efficient member of our community.
18.
Does this cab have covers with it? I currently have the DB210 but think the 410 would get knackered getting it in/out of a Fiesta
I think the Fiesta might get knackered. A bump for one of the best big rig cabs on the market - ultra-tough, professional, tone-monster (but a little on the heavy side for me). This price is just brilliant.
19. Absolutely outrageous! Both stunners - I wonder if the week can get any better.
20. I agree with much of the advice above on experimenting with pickup mix and tone control. I think you'll find the J works very well in the intended setting but may just take a little while to get used to. If you're really lacking deep thud, you can mute the strings with foam in the bridge cover (some early J's had foam or felt mutes installed). You can also experiment with the eq on your amp or with an external preamp (stompbox version - there are some really good ones around and they can be fairly inexpensive). To answer your question, I think that you've made a very good decision and one that will offer some versatility - I played a Squier J recently and was very impressed. I wouldn't say that it was capable of a full-on P tone, however, there was no lack of rounded bottom-end and the bass was very comfortable to play.
21.
This one? It's a stunner for sure. The nicest one I've seen had a quilted birch top though. I would have bought it if I'd had the readies but the owner wanted pretty much the same figure for it.
That's the one - absolutely lovely and now sold. Prices on these are staggering (even by Alembic standards). Clarky - absolutely beautiful - the walnut makes me go wobbly!
22. Wow! You don't see many of these - absolutely lovely handbuilt by two of the UK's best luthiers. I'm very tempted...good luck!
