This one is a bit heavier than my soon-to-be ex flame maple Spoiler at about 10.5 lb, the maple capped one being 10 lb. Bearing in mind it's a 32 inch scale this means it is built like a tank!
Haha, 'know what you mean - I was playing my short-scale (30.75") cocobolo yesterday - it's tiny but around 11.5lbs. Fifteen minutes on a comfort strapp was enough. It's a small standard so notoriously weird balance too.

Here's mine - a Progress 3 custom deluxe six

Whoahh! Absolute stunner - 'don't see many stealth Alembics - is this as good in terms of tone and playability as the exotic topped?
I'd part with a significant number of basses for that VW Monarch!
If the myrtle topped might be one of them...(haha, I know that answer to that!) Both Foderas look absolutely wonderful - these make me miss mine even more

Status players, which model(s) do you have?
I think Miss.Myrtle has been supplanted as the most beautiful S2 ever!
Luc - that bass is staggeringly beautiful - wow! Rich - not sure I'd agree - it's a very close call - for me there's something very special about your myrtle top. I voted for Series II - I commissioned mine new in the mid '80s - it was that or a Wal and the Status just had the cool factor for me (still has!) -
Swap for an ACG Single cut Finn?
A very good offer indeed, and if it's the bass I think it is, then a wonderful offer. However...I'm pretty much sorted for exotics and need to hang out for cash on the Nordy. Thanks anyway

Hi all and thanks for the kind words! It is a lovely and very cool bass indeed - I've been considering seriously the prospect of having the neck re-modelled...however, this would be expensive and probably a bit mad. To answer some questions: Location - the bass is in my office in central Manchester - trials are certainly welcomed (it's always a pleasure to meet basschatters, though I don't have an amp in the office) Neck dimensions - the bass was ordered with a 'big' neck - this is noted on Carey's spec sheet. The neck depth (front to back) is 0.875" at the first fret and 1" at the 12th fret (again, these dimensions appear on the spec sheet). As Kevin indicated when he was selling the bass, the neck is chunky but comfortable - the rolled edges and compound radius of the board imply that the bass is very easy to play (it just feels weird to me as I make the transition from a super-skinny short-scale). I should have indicated earlier, that I paid £20 on top of Kevin's final asking price - this was for inclusion of the original (brand new) ProTec Contego case. The case will be included in the sale - as will the documentation from Carey (in a nice plastic bag) and adjusting tools, i.e., two hexagonal keys. More photographs should now appear in the first post

Hi all, Well...with great sadness, I must pass this bass on. It's gorgeous - build quality, attention to detail, finishing, tone - it's got it all...and it's PINK! I bought this boutique, hand-built beauty from Kevin (Lindsay) just about three weeks ago. He'd had it for about four weeks. The bass was actually born on 28th April this year. This bass would be going nowhere if it wasn't for the chunky P neck profile - I only get on with really skinny necks. I should have know better but was entirely seduced by the finish: I love pastels. I've considered commissioning a new (jazz profile) neck but the cost is prohibitive and I have one or two J profiled basses anyway(!) I've posted some images below, but you may wish to take a look at those in Kevin's original porn post/ad (they're better than mine!) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=89513&hl=Nordy I bought the bass for £970 (posted) and will sell for £950 (again posted to the UK). This price includes the brand new ProTec Contego case in which the bass was originally supplied - paperwork and adjusting tools are also included. The price is just about half of what Kevin paid for the instrument just under two months ago (possibly less given import duties and carriage etc.) The bass is in perfect, absolutely unblemished condition - it's essentially a new, hand-built bass at half price. There will be a donation to basschat from the proceeds of any sale. Any questions, don't hesitate.

1965 Fender Jazz Custom on Gumtre London
lozbass replied to PauBass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Haha - I think we're going to be disappointed - the bass appears to have gone (and no response to my enquiry) -
loz, i'll have this in the shop tomorrow if you want to come in and have a poke. You have to bring the nordy though. Andy
I'll try to get over later...the Nordy is for sale (!) - yikes - that didn't last long. It's lovely, lovely, lovely but the neck is far too much of a handful for me (I'm used to skinny J types)
-
Lovely! I might have some Overwater flats in the next week or two if you can wait - very little used as far as I know (coming off a 35" scale so should fit if can get them off my bass without cutting). I'll drop you a pm when I know more
Quite a lot of listens but no comments? It doesn't sound that bad? Does it?
Haha - sounds great, we're just jealous! Nice thump and plenty of zingy top...lovely

I've used a lot of premium cables including Fender Platinum (bass), Evidence Audio (Lyric, Lyric HG and Siren), Zaolla, Tara (Spectrum), Lava (Canare GS6) and Chord. All are extremely well built (including the Fender - just one slightly misaligned screw), reliable and sound good. Some higher end cables feel very stiff and so aren't brilliant (IMO) for stage use - Evidence Audio cables are particularly stiff. Lava - built with Canare GS6 - are a great, mid-priced, flexible and reliable product. I'd say they compare with cables supplied by OBBM: a guitarist with whom I play occassionaly uses the latter and he and I are impressed. I prefer a slightly heavier cable than those built by OBBM and usually opt for the Evidence Audio - I find that the lack of flexibility isn't a problem for most non-stage settings. After trying a lot of different products, I'd go for Lava (either Lava's own or Canare) or OBBM for good quality, reliable, work-horse, gigging cable
Hey everybody! I've been on tour for 6 days now and I'm suffering from some cramp. I've been doing stretches, warm up/warm exercises, but they don't seem to be helping. I think maybe I'm not stretching properly? Any thoughts? Chris
Is this cramp in your hands or something more general? If you're drinking more alcohol than normal (not unusual during tours) this could contribute. Also, if it's cramp in your hands, are you playing more forcefully/harder than normal (not unusual in gig situations where monitoring is poor)? The added exertion could also result in cramp. Again, if it is cramp in your hands, can you change (carefully) your technique to reduce longer stretches? It may be worth experimenting with different positions across rather than along the board? Good luck!

Removing/reducing scratches on a high gloss paint finish

Removing/reducing scratches on a high gloss paint finish
lozbass replied to Clarky's topic in Repairs and Technical
Like Tino's proposed solution very much - TCut and Autoglym etc., whilst very good will only remove shallow surface scratching and swirls (even then, it can be a laborious task) -
I find the sig faintly off-putting for reasons that I haven't fully analysed - maybe it's because I'm me, I play like me and I'm not trying to be or play like anybody else. Also, I really don't have heroes of any kind. That said, I don't let it put me off a really nice bass. I've had a Fodera MG sig (absolutely gorgeous but string spacing too wide), and still have a SC. The latter is very lovely - I'd be slightly happier if it didn't have the SC designation, but it doesn't detract from the quality or playability of the instrument. Anybody who saw me play would understand instantly that I have no desire to emulate SC (!)
