3.
I have one of my basses down with Jon at the moment for some work. After all the talk about the Jon on this forum, I thought I would contact him when my need for this particular job arose. I'm extremely picky about choosing who to do work for me since I moved out of London. Before I moved Chris at The Bass Centre did any work that I needed, his work was always top-notch and a great guy to deal with. Since in Glasgow, I haven't been instilled with great confidence by any of the techs I've seen. Also, the prices, even for a simple set-up are astronomical, so I learnt how to do all my set-ups and basic electronics stuff at home. This job though, was too complicated for me as I needed a de-fret and a ramp. I e-mailed Jon and his replies have been timely and informative and the price for the work is extremely reasonable. I've only spoken to him once on the 'phone and he's been polite and good-natured. I'm now waiting for pics and info that the work is finished. I even said to him, that if he's really busy then I don't mind waiting a bit because I'm not in a great hurry. So far, I've no complaints at all. When a luthier, or any business for that matter, becomes more successful and gets more work then something will suffer as they concentrate on the important stuff (building) rather than the non-essential stuff (e-mails). It would be nice to have pictures and e-mails on time, but we all have to understand that we'd much rather that they were building stuff than sitting answering letters and taking pics. As OldGit has said, even if you do have to wait, bear in mind that you're going to be enjoying your bass for many, many years to come so a small wait now is a small price to pay. Bottom line: Trust your luthier and let them get on with the job you've entrusted them to do. If something really needs your attention they'll call you.
well said Mark. Pete can't wait to see that buckeye all buffed up!

 5. i am not really a fan of the warwick strap locks, there ok, (recently had to replace one after it failed, it basically no longer locked) but i much prefer the recessed dunlop ones that came with my corvette

 8.
How does it sound and play? Any chance of any sound clips?
it sounds good, really smooth sounding, pretty much the same spec as a SS1, she's real nice to play, i was a bit worried that i would be able to handle a 6er, but the neck is much flatter than usual warwick necks, monster slap machine, really nice for chords, really enjoying having the C to play on particularly in the higher registers but like other thumb basses there is a balance issue, but sitting down she's fine i have to add that JohnR had this bass setup really well, so i didn't have to tweak anything i am hoping to get some recording done over the weekend, so i will post some sound clips then.
 9. i am sure garry (slaphappygarry) has
 10. wow! looking really cool, however i also think a maple board would have looked good with this ( i am after all a member of the shuker owners club, sub section maple fretboards), but thats not to say the rosewood doesn't look nice
 11. looks real nice, reminds of a warwick somehow
 12.
Lucky old me picked up a yamaha rbx 270 for £25 in Cash Converters last week. Body was badly scratched - but otherwise fine, so I've rubbed it down and waxed it, shileded the cavity, put on new strings and set it up - it's pretty darn good - even paying full price. It's selling to a mates daughter next week - another one rescuede from the trash!!
nice one
 13. my vote goes with the ibanez GSR200, played my one yesterday for the first time in ages, pretty damn good considering the company it keeps, even new these things can be picked up for around £150

 19. Hey all, the result of my latest GAS attack I remember seeing this on ebay sometime ago and thinking wow! , turns out it was won by JohnR who just happens to live about 30 miles away from me, with the price and location the opportunity was just to good to pass up,
