1. Elixir strings- at least five of them. Bonus points for a super stable neck.
2. Depends on the band, but I quite like doing the "sideman" thing. Less creative input means less overall responsibility IME. I can just turn up and play and not worry about the other stuff that goes with being in a band- its "their" band, so they can deal with irate promoters etc.
3. As long as you don't try and go too loud it'll be fine. All my 15" cab does these days is serve a a table for the rest of my hifi to sit on.
4. I see he now has a column in BGM as well.
5. I quite fancy a 5 string Jazz type, but with piezos only and a lovely top.
6. It sounds like a misunderstanding somewhere along the line to me. The distributor "quoted" in the TB thread was probably referring to the Corvettes we already know about.
7. Seems like third hand hearsay at the moment- I couldn't find any sign of it on the Warwick site.
8. An Out Of This Swirled finish.
9.
I much prefer the Music Man wheel-thing down at the heel. You can adjust the truss rod with pretty much anything, as long as it fits in the holes. No need to find the right Allen key!
+1!
10. Yep, Elixirs. I have them on all my basses- they're all about 9 months old and still sound good as new. I like their brightness as I have no problem rolling the treble off.
11.
Easy access truss rod
Yeah, a truss rod that doesn't require the neck to be removed would be nice.
12.
often I have to play it to transcribe it because my ears are catching up so it's not a reading tool per se ... generally I am not sure what I do with transcriptions it's just something you do because deep down it's good for you I don't need to know why, it just is.
Very poetic.
13. The cat must have seen the price tag...
14. Tubular bells? (I feel a song coming on...)
15. Hello, Here we have my Washburn WG-587V 7 string guitar. Tuned BEADGBE, this plays well and is in excellent condition. I've included pics of the only wear I can see on it- a small chip on the lower horn (apparently a manufacturing fault as there's a clear coat over it) and a bit of playing wear on the treble side of the neck from frets 18-24. The rear cavity cover, truss rod cover and tremolo arm are all included, and I'll also include a basic gigbag. -Licensed Floyd Rose -Metallic silver/green finish with matching headstock. - 1 Volume, 1 tone (which can be pulled up to coil tap the humbuckers) and a 5 way pickup selector switch. -24 frets -Neck is presumably maplewith a rosewood fingerboard; body is basswood. You can view my Basschat feedback here. Ideally, I would like to trade this for a hard tail 7 string of similar value- I don't have a lot of cash available at the moment but I want to try different tunings, which the Floyd makes difficult. Might be interested in other stuff: baritone scale 6 strings, MIDI foot controller, Boss dual footswitch, multi-FX, feel free to try others. Failing that, I'll put a cash price of [s]£170[/s] £150 ONO. I'm also looking for a Hipshot Extender (for bass) to fit a GB-7 type tuner, preferably in gold. Postage in the UK should be around £25, or a local deal in Glasgow or nearby is fine. If you're local and want to try it out, feel free to ask and we can arrange something. Cheers Kyle
16. That's about right (possibly slightly generous) for a Zeller IME.
17. I think the one player who's most influenced me would be Billy Sheehan, although mainly in a technical sense- I know none of his lines/songs but he inspired me to work on my three finger right hand technique.
18.
It's an interesting idea - I'd not heard of applying different effects to different frequencies and mixing the result back. I wonder if anyone has ever bothered to wire each string pick-up separately, which would allow different effects to be applied to each string. Not sure I could get my head around all the options and possibilities that would allow. Mind you, I don't use any effects anyway so a single pedal would probably confuse me.
RMC do a splitter box for use with their piezo pickups which can do this, as can things like the Axxon (sp?) midi converters and the Roland V-Bass. All of these require specially wired piezos or a split pickup like a Roland GK-3B.
19. Nah, if you want ghetto straplocks the rubber bits from Grolsch bottles are the way to go.
20. She cannae fire while cloaked, cap'n!
