Our sound guy is our keyboardist, but our "soundcheck" usually consists of our singer wandering about the venue with his wireless mic checking if he can hear us OK. Keyboardist and drummer have monitors which apparently all sounded OK, but some sequenced bits need remixing to make them more prominent. I'm thinking I might need to invest in one to give myself a fighting chance.

New Retirement Bass - Guild Chris Hillman Starfire
Cosmo Valdemar replied to rubis's topic in Bass Guitars
I've owned a couple of these, although they were the standard red version without the Byrds inlay. It's sacrilege I know but I always preferred the sound with rounds - that's a very growly pickup, particularly being quite near the bridge. They're wonderful basses. Enjoy! -

Oh I totally agree it's damn difficult in the USA, I was just curious really. The only reason I mentioned NI contributions is when I was looking for a breakdown of NI, there are many references similar to this: https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-analysis/data-and-charts/nhs-budget-nutshell#:~:text=the money go%3F-,How is the NHS funded%3F,as prescriptions and dental treatment. 'The vast majority of public NHS funding comes from general taxation and National Insurance contributions' I've no idea to be honest. I've bought many USA instruments in the past, but from now on, due to the extreme prices we are seeing, I will be less tempted. I do have two full fat USA Bongos though (on topic!) and personally I'd advise going for one if you can.

I think it perfectly encapsulates the discussion 😁

Phil Jones Head DI without speaker load?
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to andyhaines's topic in Amps and Cabs
Only with valve power stage. SS outputs have a minimum load, but no maximum. Valves have a maximum load, but no minimum. Many valve amps incorporate a switched output jack that will short circuit the output when nothing is plugged in, to prevent damage in that event. -

Things do seem to hv changed somewhat . I played in a pretty good 6 piece prog rock outfit years ago with an old school JBL, ATC, EV pa and you cld talk to each other on stage with raised voices . Sound guy was strict as hell and would just press ur mute button if you started messing with the onstage.

Finally got some Mister Super Juice recordings together. Should appeal to anyone who digs the soundtracks of Lalo Schifrin or Roy Budd, well thats always been the hope! https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/mister-super-juice/1827435862 Genuine live recording, in a small venue, with no overdubs, which is a challenge with a 7 piece band and only 16 channels on the desk! Hope someone digs it!

I don't think so no. We normally do one gig a year and it's outside But I'll never do another indoor gig with them, because it will happen again, I know it will. Normally the outdoor gig, I supply the PA and go IEM, so they really can't bother me. They're all in their 60s/70s. They're all a bit deaf too but they are old school when it comes to guitar amps (one of the players is a world class amp designer) I could have told them that if they don't turn down, I'll walk off but I couldn't think straight at the time

When I picked mine up from my luthier he mentioned how if they made a reverse version of the body then it would maybe balance a bit better since the strap button would be closer to the headstock. Yours looks like a lefty but actually if a righty were to play it upside down it might balance pretty well! Would also have a reverse headstock which I'm particularly partial to but I know some pointy guitar aficionados hate them haha
