  1. Past hour
  2. So, are we all agreed that the UK plug/socket design is the best on the planet? Good.
  3. Might have come at a good time for me. I was a little underwhelmed with the previous BassRigs (and the non-defeatable cabsim) but I will be checking out the videos on the 18th for sure.
  4. You can also nail jellies to the ceiling but it is complicated because of the hoards of squealing kiddies milling around the base of your stepladder clutching empty dessert bowls while you do it. Point taken however.
  5. Communication. Have a non-rehearsal band get together and talk it through. Better to get it out in the open and remain friends.
  6. Ideal for rehearsal and small to medium gigs. Don't let the small size deceive you. I also found the people at Phil Jones really helpful when I needed info for a small repair.
  7. I have a couple of old Wem Westminster amps and love them for bass. I saw Richard Hawley on the Coles Corner tour last night and he was using both a Dominator and an earlier Watkins Westminster (with onboard tremolo) on stage. Sounded great. These amps are very capable and last for ever!
  8. I should also probably have mentioned that it comes with the GB Shuttle 4-button footswitch. And the soft cover.
  9. That's a great sound!
  10. The whole 'kitchen scales' thing is just so declasse these days, don't you think? Here we have the intersection of luggage scales with a meat-hook ... so much more satisfying. And no, your eyes do not deceive you. The scales register exactly 9.5lbs = pretty much the weight of every decent (single-necked) P-bass in existence.
  11. I should probably have mentioned that it comes with the original Owner's Manual.
  12. Very little used since Covid, time to move it on. Comes with all the little bits of cabling etc. Condition is as near pristine as you're likely to find. Full specs are here: https://philjonesbass.net/cms/product-ha-1/

  13. My eye (yes, I have two. Don't worry...) was caught by the cool looking lever at the top of the bridge - does this amazingly manly bass have a lever that deploys the string mutes? Bet MusicMan wish they'd thought of that before adding those fiddly tiny metal round screws under the bridges of Classic Stingrays. Seriously impressed by the intonation calibration markings on the bridge as well. If Bang & Olufsen made basses, they would make basses like this.
  14. Crimping was the solution for first moon flights, too. You can solder Al, but it is complicated because of oxidization et al. Still crimping is considered superior to other solutions.
  15. I am not the greatest bass player in the world, I’m just a tribute 🤘🏽
  16. When user serviceable domestic mains plugs were the norm screw clamped terminals made it possible for average home owners to rewire plugs. Back in the day, there were several types of mains plug and it was necessary to be able to change them to suit the type of socket at the user's home. People are no longer expected to do this so plugs are now crimped and sealed. Crimping is widely used in electronics. It's particularly useful in avionics when aluminium wire is used to save weight. You can't solder aluminium. Hooray for crimping!
  17. Just arrived, shall report back later 😁

  19. I received a Kala U-Bass for my birthday this year. Acoustic with internal pickup of some kind. It really is awesome. Having a much fatter sound than my bass guitar, I use on those days when my back is too bad to contemplate lugging my double bass to a gig or practice session.
  20. … I think I’ll have one of these on my shopping list also 😎
  21. Just looked those up. Not a piece of hobbyist equipment, but very impressive. Presumably you clear coat varnish afterwards to protect the paint? You mentioned help from your wife, is she the artist or does she own a a print shop? Or both?
  22. I got the Deep Impact for just over £300 delivered, with original box and manual, in immaculate condition. Rather amazing deal.
  23. The v4 sound quality is a noticeable improvement over the previous versions.
  24. I'm loving my uke basses too. Just laying down a nice little hack that I thought of and actually worked. To solve the common complaint of the fat poly strings being far too grippy, I slid some paper under the strings and gave the strings a light rub down with 800 grit wet and dry paper to take off the glossiness of said strings. Worked a treat! I can now slide about as much as I need to. Took less than 5 mins. I have a Harley Benton mahogany, and a Batking fretless btw. I keep them in the car to learn new tunes on while I'm waiting around for my boys to finish scouts or whatever dad's taxi run I might be on!
