I just heard from Ivan that the Ampeg and GK models don't have a gain control, and you can't push them into distortion. Seems like a bit of an oversight if true
-
Yes, you run an extension cab via the spare speaker jack. As others advise, try before you buy. MB combos are usually pretty portable, so it won't be too much of an issue to take it with you when auditioning stuff. I wouldn't discount a 1x15 without trying it.

We've just done our 10th year doing 1976-1982 British punk covers, and still going strong. I'm the only one not in my 60's though, so it's only a matter of time. I've got the folk rock covers band up and running so there's an option of sitting down a bit.....🤪👍

Is white paint not an option..?

Small cab required for when jamming with just a drummer
Dan Dare replied to FretsOnFire's topic in Amps and Cabs
Which MB cab do you have? They're pretty light and compact generally, barring the larger ones - 4x10s and up. If yours is a 1x12, 1x15 or even a 2x10, I wouldn't bother. I'd save the money to put towards something else. -

acidbass started following Pickup Vinyl Wrapping
-
Hi all I'm looking for some advice I would like to wrap 3 x Dingwall pickups in a white colour. The pickups themselves are epoxied into the shells and white covers are not available either as an option or aftermarket upgrade. I am thinking some kind of vinyl wrapping (like they use on car parts) might work. Does anyone have experience of doing something similar? Cheers! Danny

I was so expecting to get on with this amp that I binned the original box. However, all the rest of the bits are here, including the posh little bag, UK mains plug, sticker and manual on a CD-ROM. This bite-sized bass amp has been used precisely twice, for less than an hour in total. I just didn't like the constant fan noise, which apparently is a feature not a fault. Would be fine for playing with other musicians I guess, and everyone seems to love these amps, but my main use case was (quiet) solo home practice and it's too noisy. Don't make the same mistake! Full skinny here: https://peavey.com/product/trace-elliot-elf-ultra-compact-bass-amplifier/ Pick up from Hove or UK postage at cost guess I'll cover the postage, then. Hit me with your vexed questions.

Fender Jazz Bass 4 bolt maple neck (1973A). Quite a succesfull design... 😉 Black binding/blocks. Very old black over walnut finish (probably factory refin as they did in those days to comply with custom orders) white 3ply pick guard. Stackpole potmeters (1973), Fender pickups (1972). This bass has been refretted and a brass nut (a trendy repkacement in the late seventies/early eighties) is restored with a bone one. The bass plays perfectly with action as low as you wanna go. Pickup output is very powerfull. This beautiful thing really is as good as an early seventies Jazz Bass is gonna get and most certainly it won’t lose value either. A nice weight of 4000 grams/8.8LBS of groovy funky jazzy coolness. Looots of Geddy Lee , Chris Squire, Larry Graham and Marcus Miller vibes. Comes with (later) Fender case

I actually didn't think about this. I have the packaging that my EMGs came in which has dense foam with cut-outs for the pickups but I doubt that I am steady handed enough to cut it to fit in the gap.

Tell that to the members of the LSO... Seriously, if you're playing a couple of dozen three and four chord numbers with no tricky melodic structures or rhythms (which is what you refer to playing), you can wing it once you have the basic form down. Other things can be just a bit more complex.

Try to keep this topic up there, as someone will pick it up and provide a solution.

Barock Project with support from Peter Jones at Trading Boundaries on Thursday night. Love the venue and both artists. Peter Jones on fine, nutty form and got up to do one number he had co-written with BP just him and Luca. The BP bass player couldn’t make it this time so they had his parts recorded - I’d have offered but it gets a bit technical at times 🤣 Had a great night at our favourite venue with #2 son and his g/f. I’d have gone for the second night on Friday if I hadn’t been gigging myself

We'll probably do a KISS in a few years, so all is not lost. Enjoying the death metal though.

Japanese Sadowsky 5 string in very good condition with all the 70’s DNA a five string Jazz Bass could possibly have. Ash body, maple neck/board, bound neck, block inlays. Pickups in 70’s position providing for more clear and tight sound options. Bass is fitted with new Sadowsky single coils and new pre amp with VTC. I can reïnstall the original Sadowsky humfree pickups and pre amp (with no VTC) if desired. Frets are like new and provide for action as low as you like. This is quite an early UV70 which means the neck is not reïnforced with graphite strips as the woods were still top quality. Maybe I am delusional but in my hands I feel a more organic bass that sounds more like wood than the later ones. Not better, but different. Comes with the well known Sadowsky rectangular semi hard case. These are arguably the best '70's Jazz fivers around they are relatively rare (not sure, maybe hundreds or less exist) and they are not being produced anymore. On par with the NYC quality, not with any MIG and MIC I played. Offers considered.

Happy retirement. I quit my covers band of 6 years last autumn, I was a little bored and wanted to chase other projects and the band was gradually winding down as well. I kind of miss the regularity and the friendship though. As Joni said "you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone". I hope it's all sweet for you.

Hi. Just noticed some small pops from my ltd bass, nothing major, but when i'm not playing they appear. Checked inside and everything seems fine, changed batteries and cleaned all pots and connections, and checked the input jack. 3 band eq all works. What am I missing ? I plugged the bass into a HX stomp with headphones and with the volume down on the bass, got some horrible buzz. Could that be a clue ? Cheers. Paul

Sadowsky NYC Original P (2005) Alder body, maple neck, BR RW board 20 fets, 9" radius, 1 1/2" Nut width (J), '59 burst, Vintage neck tint Hardware chrome Weight 3,74kgs Unique Sadowsky NYC. The only one I have ever seen. Action, weight, balance and entire playability is best of the best. Sound is deep like a Precision bass with clarity rather than that quacking Precision sound. Very smooth and well blending. Comes with original Sadowsky rectangular semi hard case.
