Remastered doesn't mean its any better

Apologies - I previously conflated them as "remasters/remixes", but missed the 2nd part in my statement. 🙂 But yes, it would take a remix to, as you say. I think remasters give an opportunity to use better equipment to create the final product, maybe with less effects & adjustments in the (ahem) mix to get in the way of what comes out of the speakers. I've also picked up a few HD-audio tracks; they can be a (ahem) mixed bag too. FYI, I'm just in the process of auditioning a cable to connect my pre-amp to my power-amp; it's quite interesting. I'm not sure at what point someone changes from being an audiophile to being an audiophool, but if you can hear it then it doesn't matter whether someone else can't (or won't). (I'm a member of the Steve Hoffman forums.) -
I'm guessing the circuit is in series so if it was a dodgy solder connection then there wouldn't be any output at all?

About HARD CASES !! I'm a happy user of a TT4 fretless and the gigbag is OK (sure looks a bit naff though) but I'm amazed Sandberg don't produce or otherwise offer a hard case for their basses. I know my California will kind of fit a Jazz Bass case but not exactly. Seems to me an insane oversight on their part -what do serious touring players use (custom flight cases I suppose). Anyone recommend a decent hard case that fits a California well?

I do agree Tom, but without the original packaging, I'd be concerned about sending this out into courier world. I also much prefer potential buyers to confirm they are happy with the item in person before they purchase. However, if a buyer would be prepared to arrange collection by their preferred courier I could source appropriate packaging.

The rumours are that a new album is indeed on the cards!

Sparky Mark started following Peavey 410 TXF bass speaker cabinet

The evidence supports that, absolutely. Pino, Lee Sklar, Will Lee, Charlie Haden, Steve Swallow, even Marcus. All these guys have massive CVs whereas the Jeff Berlins, Hadrien Fraud, Michael Manrings etc crowd are much more limited in their catalogues. Who gets the Steely Dan gigs etc? Always the solid guys.

When was the last time Fender brought out something where there weren't established market leaders in place already? What useful innovations have they pushed since Mr Fender sold out in the 60's? The Dimension tried to enter a space created by Musicman and G&L 30-odd years previously. Who was that bass aimed at, who was the target market? It came across as a half-assed effort at entering the humbucker game, just flung out there in the hope that they could poach some stragglers from leading brands in that market. It seems like everything they "innovate" has already been done better elsewhere. How is it possible they don't lead the Jazz-on-steroids market? How have they never managed to develop (or even buy or licence) a class-leading pre-amp and mate it with their instruments? Having that big F on the headstock is not enough to just plop something onto the market and not think strategically through design, production and marketing thoroughly before making the half-assed effort which has become their trademark, sadly. They got lazy on the legacy of that name. I'd be of the opinion that everything they offer is made better (and usually cheaper) by someone else. Then people say "Oh nobody wants Fender to do anything different" when it's more that everything different they do has already been done better elsewhere. But folks love having that big F on the headstock all the same, no matter what. It's always gas seeing home assembled parts builds and custom relic jobs getting that brand-name stuck on them 😂

Hi, These are still for sale ( March 2025 ) I took these tuners off my 2016 Spector NT4 and replaced with Gotoh Gold GB707 , hence photo to show Drop In compatibility. Just home use by myself for a few months ( I bought bass new in 2018) before putting the gold set on. So excellent condition and very little use. They’ve cleaned up as well as the other same size set I’m now selling (£45) on here , just no Spector Logo on these. The diagram dimensions are accurate in the photo. I have digital calipers. Just had to change a couple of dimensions on a Wilkinson open gear diagram. £40 includes UK postage. 2L-2R Weight 238g Cheers. Quent

Russ started following Oasis to reform?
-
Oasis were always more of an overarching cultural thing than a music thing anyway. There were many bands in that Britpop era that were far, far better than them, but they were the ones that got the column inches, the NME/Melody Maker covers and the tabloid scandals. Basically Oasis - the brand - was the big seller, and the music was only a smallish part of all that. The whole cocky swagger of the Gallaghers was a reflection of the era of Cool Britannia and the national zeitgeist at the time. The sad thing is, if you put together a supertour featuring a bunch of other contemporary British pop-rock bands who musically left Oasis in the dust (Radiohead, Blur, Pulp, Suede, Supergrass, the Manics, The Verve, Mansun, Ocean Colour Scene, Sleeper, Feeder, Elastica, etc) they probably wouldn't sell as many tickets as Oasis have.

Kowad started following One nut to rule them all? (Jazz bass).
-
Hello! Greasing the fretboard on a 1986 MIJ 1962 jazz bass reissue and the edge of the nut flew off. No harsh treatment, gently moving the E string in, off it went! I’m looking to replace it, will get a local luthier on it, are there any considerations here? Fender only sell one JB nut (will this fit any / all JBs?), would this fit, anything beyond “get a nut in there” that should shape any replacement? Cheers!
