Agreed, why on earth are people still making sunturdburst instruments in this day and age??? 😮😢😭🤢🤮

Possibly because 'front' grain and end grain take common finishes differently, so by hiding the transition, they can use a cheaper finish.

Would that be the Bender Distortocaster?  There was one in a shop in Shrewsbury in the 1990's for years; I wish I'd been able to afford it.

Yes, that's it. I played in a band with a chap that owned one and he had a Fender Strat sprayed to match. He'd play the first set with the Fender and then switch to the Bender later on. I think as many as 10 audience members noticed the switch over the years.
