Misdee Posted Tuesday at 22:34 Posted Tuesday at 22:34 (edited) I can only think of Mo Foster, who had a double bass fingerboard grafted on to his Jazz Bass when he had it made fretless, but I'm pretty sure that bass had both pickups on it. Probably not what you are thinking of. Edited Tuesday at 22:34 by Misdee 1 Quote

Regarding the Jazz Bass with a single rear pickup, I think you might be thinking of early-2000's era Dan Glenn. He was/is(?) and L.A-based fretless player who had a beard, looked a bit like Mo Foster and played a fretless Modulus Jazz that had one rear pickup. Could it be you have got the two a bit mixed up/ mixed together? 1 Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted Wednesday at 20:30 Posted Wednesday at 20:30 (edited) Moe Foster did some articles in the 90s Bassist magazine, as far as I can remember his Jazz bass looked fairly conventional. He did say the ebony fingerboard had come from a double bass, but presumably it had had been cut down to normal Jazz bass proportions. edit; OK, in the link it looks to have a somewhat extended fingerboard, but not so much that it only had room for one pickup, maybe 2 octaves or so? I keep in touch with him via FB, he’s a top guy and always willing to share. I’m not sure he plays much fretless any more. He’ endorses Dingwall basses and plays mainly 6 string these days. Quote

He's got nerve damage in his right hand, but he's developed an interesting plucking technique to compensate using his index finger and his thumb. The guy can still play his unmentionables off. Quote

On fretless, and like Mo Foster (at least according to an interview I read), I don't use the neck Jazz PUP, to my ear it just muddies things a little too much, so the body came up on eBay and I jumped. I knew I'd seen a similar bass with extended board and single PUP but I may have imagined the latter, either way I think I'm looking for the same out of this as Mr Foster did from his FL Jazz, I love the simplicity, to add to it I'm probably going to run the PUP straight to the jack socket. Have to say iIt has something of a Wishbass look about it in the flesh, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not Edited 7 minutes ago by Beedster Quote
