lurksalot Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) These months just seem to fly by, but then, we get get to hear the great new jazzfunkpunk from @Leonard Smalls who has been on fire again. So its time to fire up the DAW once again and show how the following picture inspires us. "Here's a pic. it's of some UFOs I saw while on a plane to Geneva a few years ago." I guess that is just out of this world! ✅ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ❌ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ❌ No Bagpipes, Please , please, will no-one think of the children. ❌ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th June ... Which of course, in reality, means tea time on teh 25th A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super duper smashing lovely. Good luck, Have fun Edited June 1 by lurksalot 1 4 Quote
Al Nico Posted June 6 Posted June 6 (edited) amongst Us Inspired as we all are by alien music, I created this short piece in Canis Minor, building sounds on synths that portray typical sounds heard during alien encounters, including deep low bass. All dynamics have been removed to capture and portray the natural sound, feel and anxiety of being probed in a busy alien space craft hospital. Edited June 7 by Al Nico 3 Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Looks like I may be doing something slightly punky with my own vocalisations! 1 Quote
Chiliwailer Posted June 15 Posted June 15 (edited) Thanks to @Leonard Smalls amazing experience and photo... Jammin' with E.T. - is inspired by how I imagine it'd sound when jamming with E.T. at 30,000 feet. Edited June 15 by Chiliwailer 3 Quote
Baloney Balderdash Posted June 15 Posted June 15 (edited) So I put on Syd Barrett's spectacles, and this is what happened... : As one of the fathers of psych folk and lo-fi, here's an improvised instrumental lo-fi psychedelic folk piece in honor of the genius that is Syd Barrett. First take improvisation, played on my 28.6" scale 4 string Ibanez GSRM20B Mikro Bass, equipped with just a single bridge EMG Geezer Butler J pickup, from the P/J set, wired directly to the output jack socket, and tuned in B standard tuning (baritone tuning), recorded through my "amp-less" setup directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, and only edited through a simple Wav editor. Honestly probably sounds more like Pentangle than Syd, but hey Spectacles does kind of rhyme on Pentangle, so it all makes sense. Edited June 15 by Baloney Balderdash 1 Quote
Al Nico Posted June 15 Posted June 15 @Chiliwailer Jammin' with E.T I like the mood of this and the unpredictable but always resolving chords. I found it soothing and dreamy. @Baloney Balderdash Syd Barrett's spectacles The honesty of the performance in this track comes over well. I like it's unique personal style. 2 Quote

I am a bit of a one trick production pony. I like sound design, and dubstep only uses one chord so no song writing involved. I look forward to future challenges using less familiar tools and more notes. 1 Quote

Well, I'm not stalking you - that date was a bit specific 😂 I entered this comp for a few months in 2017 (but then stopped when I started a degree and later lost access to a DAW) - there was a comp I entered with a picture of an alien invasion, and I seem to remember your tune from that. 1 Quote

upside downer Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Hooray! Three days before the curfew! It even has words! Anything can happen on a plane. You could drink a hot brew, have a snooze or ingest some top quality drugs whilst watching unidentified flying objects out the window. Words below (hidden). I'm sure you'll agree that any cobras listening would quickly grow hands so as to punch the air with glee at the Dylanesque turns of phrase. Spoiler Hey! I just saw a flying saucer Being awkwardly steered by Geoffrey Chaucer Now it seems that old Geoff is a space explorer I'm sitting on a violin With Brian Jones and Anne Boleyn The LSD is kicking in UFO! UFO, are you friend or foe? UFO, are you friend or foe? Yeah! I'm flying to Geneva Anne said that I must never leave her Brian's moaning again 'cus he's having a seizure He grabbed his pills then dropped an E Anne dislocated her right knee I turned into a chimpanzee UFO! UFO, are you friend or foe? UFO, are you friend or foe? Instruments? Er, Westfields. Westfield Les Paul copy and Westfield violin bass fuzzed up using a Digitech RP80 pedal with a Roland amp. Oh, and MT Drums. Recorded with those old troopers Wavepad and Audacity. Edited 6 hours ago by upside downer Miles Jupp's laughter 1 Quote
