fergs40 Posted Friday at 20:42 Posted Friday at 20:42 (edited) https://www.bassic.de/kleinanzeigen/fender-player-2-jazz-body-mit-player-2-precision-hals.61918/ Came across this in the bassic.de small ads - a jazz body with a precision neck. Now I’ve often come across precisions with jazz necks - people want P thump with a slimmer neck, of course - but never seen this combination before. is this a thing, or just someone selling off the spare parts from a precision body/jazz neck transplant as a complete bass? Google’s translation of the ad below, FYI. ‘Fender Player 2 Jazz Bass Body with Fender Precision Neck . The neck is from a Fender Player 2 Preci and has a saddle width of 41.3 mm. Unfortunately, I no longer have a bag or suitcase to hand in. There is a second pickguard included. Condition is very good would even say almost like new. Has never seen a stage. Had the bass only once in the rehearsal room to test. But jazz sound is unfortunately not for me.’ Edited Friday at 20:43 by fergs40 Quote
Doctor J Posted Friday at 20:47 Posted Friday at 20:47 For almost every Precision with a Jazz neck, there is one of these unloved puppies looking for a home. 1 Quote
Grooverjr Posted Friday at 20:49 Posted Friday at 20:49 It's a thing. I did it. I have big hands and don't get on with the tight string bunching at the nut of a J neck, but I do like the J sound. It's great. When my fretless P neck gets here it will become a fretless P neck on a J body. I also, unlike the advertiser, have a bag or suitcase to hand in. It's a gator hardcase. Quote

Just because most people have small hands or more advanced fine motor skills there's no need to discriminate 🤣 Quote

With apologies if the intended humour has just gone over my head, I’ll defend the seller’s entirely appropriate use of the German word Koffer in this context to mean hard case (as well as its more common meaning of suitcase). Though maybe I shouldn’t be tangling with someone with self-confessedly big hands… Edited Friday at 21:54 by fergs40 Greengrocers apostrophe (see what I did there?) Quote
Bassybert Posted Friday at 23:23 Posted Friday at 23:23 (edited) I've literally just put a precision neck on my jazz as I'm really struggling with the toothpick feel of the neck, but I love the sound of single coils and the playing position of a jazz. It's probably a lot more common than you think. Edited Friday at 23:23 by Bassybert Quote
Lozz196 Posted Friday at 23:40 Posted Friday at 23:40 If I recall correctly our very own @Cat Burrito used to have a Jazz with Precision neck - I’ve not dreamt this have I Tim? Quote

You have a good memory Lozz. I did, an old 70s thing. Great bass. The previous owner swapped the necks over and I wanted the jazz sound but didn't get on with narrow necks back then. Quote
Beedster Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I've used Jazzes with Precision necks, simply prefer a Jazz configured that way, as was my main fretless for 3-4 years. I really don't understand why some folks seem to thing it's an aberration 👍 Quote

I remember it from the Ex Boyfriends gig you & Andy etc did in Hitchin, when I was the transport manager for the evening (as in, drove you both there). Quote

miles'tone Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Tim Commerford from RATM likes Jazz basses with Precision necks. He winds his own pickups for them too. Respec'! 4 Quote
Bassybert Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago If it's good enough for Timmy C it's good enough for me ☺️ He also seems like a proper gear head, would fit right in here! 1 Quote
