For the love of Ampeg V4B

On my second Ampeg V4B head and for a 100w all valve amp it’s the nicest amp I’ve ever used in my band.

 

There is something about the fullness and warmth of the amps tone that nothing seems to come close.

 

And it’s a loud amp .. we are a loud rock band and my V4B never struggles for volume ( not using the PA ) 

Amazing amps, simple EQ and looks great on the matching SVT212AV cab

I don’t think the weight is an issue ( for most able bodied ) but granted some might struggle lifting and carrying it far !!

For me it’s worth it purely for the sound !!

I prefer my lovely B15NF. It makes me smile just to look at it. Ampeg do make good amplifiers!

Yeah, fantastic amp, they have that warm valve sound which is perfect for what I play and mines going nowhere , glad it’s loud enough for you BassAdder , I’ve never needed mine up full

One if the venues I play with a big band has a backline. Recent new bass amp is an Ampeg V4B reissue and 212 cab. Its a really nice amp I enjoy using, I would have one if it wasn't so heavy compared to my Mesa D800, but it is still a joy to use. Wish I'd found a V4B back in the 70s/80s when I was using other amps of the day.

They are special amps and loud enough for most needs.  I partner mine with the Ampeg Venture 412.

Ampeg did make a 4x12 bass cab for a while, around the late 90’s I think. 
IIRC the model was something like SVT412HE. Never seen one in the flesh though!

Just curious to how frequently folk change their power tubes ? 
 

Mine is still virtually new but I gig it twice a month and use it once a week at rehearsals.

 

Whats the general consensus? Yearly ?

I’ve had mine 4 years approximately.  
 

Never changed the power tubes

2 years for me and I’ve never touched it, unless something doesn’t sound right I’ll not tamper with mine

The tubes in my Ampeg B15NF have been in there for approaching twenty years.  The amp will tell you when it needs retubing.

I've had mine for over 4 years and not opened it up or changed anything. Not had the need or a problem with it.

I never have problems carry my rig ( same cab and head ) 

Yep it’s heavy but it’s worth it !!

Guitar:

Fender Twin reverb

 

Bass:

H&H twin 15.

150W tube amp I built eventually replaced by a 200W @ 4Ω dual Mono SS amp and pre-amp again built by me.

 

Keys:

Two different ARP Synths, Fender Rhodes played through a 4x12. Hammond organ and leslie.

 

Drums: 

A very large kit.

 

PA:

2 Altec A7 PA cabinets each mated to a very large Altec horn.

4 Vocal monitors each with a 12 woofer and horn

Power amps for mains and monitors.

 

We also carried `a lighting system with four lights on stands each side of the stage  and the miles of cable they entail.

 

there's more but I can't think of any at the moment.

Three strokes didn't help my memory one bit.  I'll put something down, forget where and have to search the house until I find it right where I left it!!!
