BassAdder60 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 On my second Ampeg V4B head and for a 100w all valve amp itās the nicest amp Iāve ever used in my band. Ā There is something about the fullness and warmth of the amps tone that nothing seems to come close. Ā And itās a loud amp .. we are a loud rock band and my V4B never struggles for volume ( not using the PA )Ā Amazing amps, simple EQ and looks great on the matching SVT212AV cabĀ 5 Quote
ahpook Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I have a late 90s model and it sounds.. Ā ...well, like what a bass should sound like ! 2 Quote
bremen Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I had one. It was beautiful.Ā Ā It weighed more than my house though.Ā Quote

For me itās worth it purely for the sound !!Ā Quote
BassmanPaul Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I prefer my lovely B15NF. It makes me smile just to look at it. Ampeg do make good amplifiers! Ā 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Yeah, fantastic amp, they have that warm valve sound which is perfect for what I play and mines going nowhere , glad itās loud enough for you BassAdder , Iāve never needed mine up fullĀ 1 Quote
MOSCOWBASS Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 One if the venues I play with a big band has a backline. Recent new bass amp is an Ampeg V4B reissue and 212 cab. Its a really nice amp I enjoy using, I would have one if it wasn't so heavy compared to my Mesa D800, but it is still a joy to use. Wish I'd found a V4B back in the 70s/80s when I was using other amps of the day. 2 Quote
Sarlscharisma Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 They are special amps and loud enough for most needs. Ā I partner mine with the Ampeg Venture 412. 1 Quote

BassAdder60 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 Just curious to how frequently folk change their power tubes ?Ā Ā Mine is still virtually new but I gig it twice a month and use it once a week at rehearsals. Ā Whats the general consensus? Yearly ? Never ?Ā Ā Quote
Sarlscharisma Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Iāve had mine 4 years approximately. Ā Ā Never changed the power tubesĀ 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 2 years for me and Iāve never touched it, unless something doesnāt sound right Iāll not tamper with mineĀ 1 Quote
BassmanPaul Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 The tubes in my Ampeg B15NF have been in there for approaching twenty years. Ā The amp will tell you when it needs retubing.Ā 2 Quote
skychaserhigh Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I've had mine for over 4 years and not opened it up or changed anything. Not had the need or a problem with it.Ā 1 Quote

BassmanPaul Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) I'm 77!Ā Ā Thinking back to my Lionheart days we had so much stuff to carry. Ā Guitar: Fender Twin reverb Ā Bass: H&H twin 15. 150W tube amp I built eventually replaced by a 200W @ 4Ī© dual Mono SS amp and pre-amp again built by me. Ā Keys: Two different ARP Synths, Fender Rhodes played through a 4x12. Hammond organ and leslie. Ā Drums:Ā A very large kit. Ā PA: 2 Altec A7 PA cabinets each mated to a very large Altec horn. 4 Vocal monitors each with a 12 woofer and horn Power amps for mains and monitors. Ā We also carried `a lighting system with four lights on stands each side of the stage Ā and the miles of cable they entail. Ā there's more but I can't think of any at the moment.
